Black Desert Online 2021. In this Black Desert Online (BDO) Remastered first impressions video I talk about the state of Black Desert in 2021 and show my first impressions of the gameplay. This is actually my third attempt at making this video for BDO, the first two attempts were derailed by what I feel is a unfriendly new player experience.
BDO features seriously good action combat, a beautiful world, an in depth life skill system including crafting, farming and sailing, thousands of quests, world bosses, a massive PVP system based on node war and end game castle siege PVP.

I am not a very big MMO fan, the only one that has drawn me in is ESO, the fully voice acted npcs and large amount of quests and solo content allows you to play as if it's a single player rpg. And from there you can go as deep or shallow into the MMO elements as you want.

The game itself is hard to get into and I agree with you. Once you get in it’s all quest and barely any tutorials teaching you the basics. I got super confused but I kept going and now it’s one of my favourite game. Google and KZbin is literally your best friend when learning the concept of this game. I have over 1k hour on this game now after just two months and play it daily. It’s a hard game to enjoy but once you understand the mechanics there are endless amount of things to do.

Sorry for all the hate that you been getting in the comments... its 2021 and "if you have a different opinion then me then that gives me the right to just be straight up rude." but I personally understand complaint and i think that it is true to a point. The game does not explain much in general and you have to look things up a lot and the UI/ setting can be a little bit funky in the beginning until you mess with it a bit. However personally for me that is one of the things that really enjoyed about the game figuring out things with research and trial and error... a lot of trail and error. Also one of the things that help me out in the beginning is the community. They are actual pretty cool from what I have seen at least, I would ask a question in chat and people would respond with helpful information also they are pretty funny sometimes. All in all though this game is really in-depth with so many things to do or manage and if you don't mind reading a lot and looking things up its an amazing game to get into.

Hey Wesley. Thank you for the comment. Don't worry about the hate, I honestly don't let that stuff bother me. The guys and girls who watched the whole video will realise that yes I was being impatient and cranky at first... But in the conclusion I mentioned that the game is actually good if you can push past (what I felt to be) a slightly uninviting starter experience. As you say, the game has SO much to do for people. I feel that if they could make the first few hours a little more easy to access without the need for looking up guides etc, it would be excellent. I never expected this video to be popular though... I knew that people wouldn't like it, but if I can't be honest then I may as well just be a salesman 😂... Thank you again dude.

Excellent review!... It's how I see the game as well. I hate MMO's and am a solo player, but for $2.99 currently on Steam, I'll purchase it and at least have some fun in character creation and leveling up to level 49, where I will not do that mission that forces you into PVP at level 50. For $2.99 I'll definitely get my money's worth. On the other hand, I can hardly wait to play Crimson Desert, as I can play the single player story campaign. It's been my number one most anticipated game for around 2 years now. I also subscribed to your channel. Have a great 2022 and game on! 😎

By the time you learn processing (crafting) and accumulating contribution points which allow you to purchase homes for various purposes you’ll be hooked line and sinker. I’ve created four characters quickly because you can blow through a bunch of early game quests which give you contribution points that can be used by your entire “family” of characters. Loving the game so far and its the first mmo since eso that has sucked me in and I’ve only touched the tip of the iceberg. Very Deeeep and that reason alone will keep me interested long term.

I liked your fresh perspective on the game, especially the frustrations. I've been trying out older MMOs I tried years ago that went F2P, and appreciate the know the ups and downs. One bit of feedback: I felt you over emphasized your false starts. Its worth mentioning, but it dragged down the fresh vibe a little.

a good tip for new comers to this game is to join a guild. you'll see advertisements in the chat constantly. find one that's new player friendly (they will say so in their add) and join up. Guilds are full of helpful people who will mentor your starting experience and help alleviate alot of the problems you might face.

Definitely a hard game to get into. I spent a lot of time in the beginning just watching tons of videos learning more. But once you get to a certain point you really start to enjoy the game. There is just a lot to do.

A few thoughts and corrections. Don't be worked up if you find it off putting. This game is not for everyone, by design. Most of your levels are tutorial. Pvp, completeish ability set, world tour, key game systems etc takes you through mid level 50s. Read the txt, dont screw with ui other than alerts until level 30. It'll mellow out and stop changing stuff quickly. Mid 50s takes a few days if you don't care about flavor text and are solo or a few hours if you join a guild and get help. Real progression is through gear, and that takes YEARS. Don't stress about char creation. You can change your look whenever you want. It's impossible to play as a pure pvp game. Though you can spend large amounts of money to minimize your pve time, it's not recommended for the sane. This game has an expensive cash shop and p2w. Don't spend a dime until you've played for a full month. Too easy to waste money on things that don't matter if you're new. P2w only matters for competitive pvp, which most people ignore.

I think that mmos like this where the combat is a big focus and a player plays it like a single player game (without partying with randos or friends), you have far better options with single player games instead. There's no point on saying the combat is good "for an mmo" if I'm not playing it as an mmo.

The combat mechanics are good but because the enemies are braindead and offer zero challenge, the combat is overall terrible. MMO players like to mindlessly slaughter dozens of enemies at a time, so having deep combat mechanics is a massive waste when that's what you'll be doing.

This is a Korean game. So it was originally designed for somewhat of a more hardcore demographics that intentionally hides stuff for people to discover and rewards knowledge with a deep learning curve. So those who likes to learn will enjoy it. The good thing about the game is that it's free, and very easy to drop and come back to, which I have done multiple times, if you have a chill attitude about it, with a beautiful world to travel and explore. It's actually the best value entertainment I find compare to other subscription based MMOs. As for pay to win, there is no point in winning, at least for me in this sandbox MMO, so no point to pay.

I lost about well over 4k hrs and that's just steam time of when it got added to steam not including before that time so yea because of the whole data wipe thing GPU crapped the bed and thus for I never knew about the data transfer I want to get back into the game but just knowing the fact I no longer have my pets dream horses and so on kill it for me also did I mention I spent well over 500$ over the years of when the game left beta so yea

Ppl who left the game after 4 hours never played an MMO. You sometimes need months to REALLY enjoy the game. I started the game 2 days ago focusing only on the main story but I already found myself in a situation where I said okay I press buttons randomly and I manage to kill things but I want to know what I press. You want self and character Progression. I really appreciate the more experienced comments. I dont know if I will stay for months or weeks but atm I give it a shot the bare minimum I want to do is reach max level to test how the real game looks like.

Some people have said that even though for a mmo that the game is too tedious and just dragging if that makes sense.

a lot of people dont stick as they dont like the life skill aspect of the game. some expect that when you get max level , you do dungeons daily bosses daily(which is you can do) but the real end game is getting your gears. farm via life skill , or grind those mobs. either way its a mix of the two for me so there are days i do my farming which helps my alchemy and cooking , and there are days i just do rift bosses, daily bosses, or grind for materials or just plain money.

Clicking the little wedge by the quest will set a path to the quest area for whatever quest you are doing.

Did that with Bless how does BD compare, that is you tried Bless as well. One of the two big things for me was how long it took to kill something but at the same time I had so since of danger and the hud just covering most of the screen I don't mind if the solo play is only really good to around lvl 50,but those other two things is why I dislike MMOs.

@@WarriorCicada I never tried Bless. I'm pretty into FF14 if this will help. With FF14, even having the "terrible" start with ARR, the game already felt polished. There was weight to your character, even moving around felt good. The cherry on top was everyone kept saying, "it gets better, just power through the start." For BDO, everyone told me the opposite. I didn't notice the kill time on the mobs. It felt like there was a disconnect between your character and the world, like you were hovering around the world and not part of it. It's really hard to explain. For the HUD clutter yea, it was just bad. Yes, I know you can customize it. Hope this helps. :)

Why are you making a big deal about the deleted character... I would be PISSED if it let me delete a character that had valuable REAL MONEY TRANSACTION (Pearl items) in its inventory. Dude, go to a bank, move them and start fresh. So far this seems like the silliest thing to get worked up over.

WoW won't even let you delete or server transfer if you have unopened mail in your mailbox, someone can grief you and send you a mail over and over and prevent you from doing either. This is standard MMO fare.

Thanks for ...the confirmation bias I guess? I also felt the starting experience felt "wrong". The biggest problem for me was that the starting quest was very uninviting. You start off with your character not knowing who they are, and the NPCs find you as a nuisance. That's fine since I don't want to be "the chosen one" in any game I play. However, all the NPCs in the starting area seem to be doing their own thing, and they all act like it would be better if my character did not exist (so they can continue to do their own thing). Other games have multiple NPCs pointing you to someone who is offering jobs or a bounty board. For the rogue path other games give you a very obvious shady part of town to pick up lawful evil type of stuff to do. I'm sure I could find a guide to get me past all the NPCs that are annoyed you exist, and for all I know I can blindly follow guides to get me to the first real hub in 25 minutes of guide reading and 25 minutes of playing. However, I don't currently have the patience.

The biggest problem for me was how there were too many mechanics and items that I got bombarded with at a low level. Cool I have all these potions, food, 2 pets, 90 million gold, 4 commander banner thingies, and hundreds upon hundreds of weapon and armor upgrade stones, but nobody told me how to buy a horse, or start taming horses. (Yes I started playing because of horses) Nobody showed me how I could be an armorer, or get my own ship, or start fishing, etc. The intro questline is long as hell and only drags you through the numerous starting areas. There is way too many things that, as a new player, you have to google or youtube it up, when I enjoy just jumping into a game and it slowly eases me into increasingly complex mechanics.

I (PS4) started this game with my bf (PS5) about 2 months ago. Right off the bat i wasn’t a fan of the super small parts of the quests that just have you talking to people. We picked it back up a couple days ago and I honestly really love this game it definitely takes time and tinkering with random things with NPCs and in your inventory and so on. But after some time I began to truly love and enjoy this game.

I know folks want a proper, Devil May Cry type action, but ff14 and wow have kinda perfected the genres combat. Just because there is so much to do. If you want an action mmo type game, play warframe. As tough as that is for me to say.

I see alot of these is it worth playing videos from different channels but that title is very misleading. To be able to tell your audience if a game is worth playing you have to be knowledgable about the game and its systems in their entirety. A better title would be "Black Desert Online 2021 New Player Experience". Also, to the fanboys, you can like it or not but the new player experience is a big part of a great game. If a game doesn't get good or fun until X amount of hours in or until you watch a youtube video then that makes the game worse in a lot of people's eyes.

Wow. A BDO "is it worth playing?" video that stops at lvl 15? You can get from lv1 to 56 in 2hs nowadays as a veteran or a day at most as a newish player. This doesnt even qualify as first impressions.

-5 years old player here ! dude u didnt even reach soft cap on lvling to unlock second style of gameplay for ur class , or even tried the pve content which is the most fun in this game. -the game is p2w not convenient bullshit. u can buy outfits and sell them for fast cash. can you progress without it ? yes u can but slower. - this is grindy game . means if you want to be competitive u have to put 8-12h a day grinding which most of us doing. - why we keep playing it? cuz of graphic, combat system and pvp. it has that satifsfying feels when u 1 shot someone or destroy 1-2 hour grind sesssion of someone. u can troll pplz and rage quit them . this game will keep u busy from all the contents u can do while u grinding.

BDO is not hard at all if you got some sort of brain activity, it literally takes 2 min to google something if you don't understand it, there are 1000 of videos of guides that are simple to follow. I'm glad lazy people like you and most of the comment section don't play it, you won't contribute much to the player driven economy. Iv been playing for 2 weeks and finished everything in the seasonal servers with maxed gear, didn't take much of me and iv learned ALOT about the game. Maybe wow suits your needs more? Hahah Martin - yeah I feel bad for me most days too! I agree that there are loads of guides available - i even mentioned that in the conclusion part of the video when I'd finally stopped being emo about the frustrating new player experience. I don't think the game is bad overall - I'm not hating on the game, but I would say the new player intro gives you a lot to take in when you first start, and a few things were off-putting at first - just my opinion of course.
