A’HO, Jean Black Elk was my best friend of 50 years. Jean is the great great granddaughter of Nicholas Black Elk. She was stolen from the Pine Ridge Reservation by the white man and adopted out to a white missionary couple. They treated her extremely well. When I see pictures of Black Elk in his youth, I see Jean’s face. I miss her terribly. I know she is Dancing amongst the Stars with her ancestors and relatives. Wado for posting this beautiful prayer.

Happy to see this here. I have this prayer and the prayer for the cause of his canonization for his unprecedented and unparalleled life-long work as a Catechist as well as just his life of holiness in general. He dreamt of a new society that took the best of Settler and Lakota societies to create something brand new and better much better and bigger than just the sum of its parts. He also embodied that dream in his very person, like he was member #1 of this new society. I see this now coming to pass as Grandmother Earth is more and more damaged, the Lakota way of thinking and acting being our last, best hope of surviving and hopefully one day thriving while never, ever taking more than any one person needs from her. Grandfather, Great Mysterious One, You have been always and before You nothing has been. The star nations all over the universe are yours, and yours are the grasses of the earth. Day in and day out, you are the life of things. You are older than all need, older than all pain and prayer. Grandfather, all over the world the faces of the living ones are alike. In tenderness they have come up out of the ground. Look upon your children with children in their arms, that they may face the winds, and walk the good road to the day of quiet. Teach me to walk the soft earth, a relative to all that live. Sweeten my heart and fill me with light, and give me the strength to understand and the eyes to see. Help me, for without you I am nothing. Hetchetu aloh! (Amen) Prayer for the canonization of Nick Black Elk from the Diocese of Rapid City. Heavenly Father, Great Spirit! Behold us, who stand before you singing our song of thanksgiving for Servant of God, Nicholas Black Elk. Faithfully he walked the Sacred Red Road and generously witnessed the Good News of our Lord Jesus Christ among the Native American people. We humbly ask you to hear the prayers we plead through his intercession. We ask Holy Mother Church to recognize his sanctity by acknowledging his presence among the company of Saints and as one to imitate in his zeal for the Gospel. Open our hearts to also recognize the Risen Christ in other cultures and peoples, to your glory and honor through Christ our Lord. Amen.

I visited the Neihardt center. It had a low-key, quiet intensity. There was a horrific, violent history left slightly out of frame to display some Lakota history. The whole building is a crossroads between the good red road, and the bad black road.

So glad to view this. I subscribed. I am reading Black Elk & Flaming Rainbow. My copy was read by a tribal elder. Makes it even more interesting. The name of the large man on the first page of chapter;'An Old-Time Feast was named Lone Goose. The reader definitely enjoyed the memories that the book brought back.

A couple of years ago , I was sitting at my kitchen table when I heard a voice in my ear say Black Elk , I didn’t understand what I was hearing as I’m am British and knew very little about The Native Americans . Not quite sure of what I was hearing , I asked my partner to Google Black Elk and within minutes I had Black Elk speaks ordered which arrived the next day . I had been searching my family tree and didn’t feel it was a coincidence that he was stranded in the North West of England , where my ancestors live . Is it possible that he had children during his time here?
