I had my cabbage, black-eyed peas, hog jowl for New Years. With all that you would think my luck would be good. Went out after lunch to blow leaves and the leaf blower blew up. So much for luck. 😂😂😂

I had my black-eyed peas, cabbage, and cornbread on New Year's Day. Didn't have leftovers, so, I'm cooking more today! Love beans/peas and cornbread!! Cabbage is icing on the cake!! Glad to see how you make yours. I think I will be buying a ham for just myself soon. I usually freeze some; think I will try canning some this time.

When I cooked my blackeye peas, I had all the same ingredients you used but cook initially in my pressure cooker for 30 min, then released pressure and finished cooking with no lid on med for 2 hours. So good.

Wanda, you are making my mouth water! Especially the freeze dried onions! Love onions! I also add a carrot to my beans of any type! Love fried cabbage also! Perfect meal in my opinion! Don't even need that steak! Lol.

Wanda that looks delicious. I quit eating meat many years ago along with most sugar and carbs because of the inflammation factor. But I would definitely eat some of your beans and ham. Bravo 👏

If you soak your beans and grains they are more digestible

If you dont put too much water to begin with it wii cook down and beans or peas will make their own thick juice then you dont have to add all the thickners. Try it sometime, It works!

I made my Black eyed peas with lb hamburger and 1 lb ground turkey and same other ingredients but added some mesquite liquid smoke and a can diced mild chilis and garlic also can tomatoes diced mild with chilis

When starting from dry, what do you look for to know when the peas are done?

I test one. If it is still crunchy cook it a little longer. I like my peas almost mush.

I seldom fry anything, but make hushpuppies that I pan fry in just a few tablespoons of lard.
