Got to have some blackeyed peas for sure. I used to go with dad and pick blackeyed peas and then mom would say, we'll be in the kitchen peaing all day lol. The snaps help so much. I saute my peas and snaps in bacon and then add in water, alitte black pepper a dash of salt and then simmer till good and done. Then make cornbread. Happy New Year Linda 🎉

I use to like rice ,tomato gravy, peas, and collard greens! And a big slice of corn bread! Can’t eat like that any more due to sugar problems! But will still eat some black eyed peas and collards. In moderation!

Blackeyed peas were eaten by slaves because no one else ate them. That happened a lot during the horrific time of our history.

My ancestors ate them and we are not black….that don’t hold water haha.

They were also used to feed livestock many years ago

Here's what Mr. Google says - "Black-eyed peas have a mild, earthy, slightly nutty flavor, often described as similar to a white bean with a creamy texture; their taste can be considered somewhat "bean-like" and may be an acquired taste for some, but they become very versatile when incorporated into various dishes depending on the seasonings used."

I’m 70 yrs old and never put diced tomatoes in my black eyed peas. Bacon and ham yes but not tomatoes. I’m just old fashioned.
