Black folk, especially black men, are often being encouraged to make more trips to the doctor. Do black folk see the doctor any less than other folk? Are there questions of access to be explored as part of the conversation? Or is this yet another urban myth? The news always focuses on the lack of care black people take to their health but is it just a socio-economic thing or is there some historical reason?

In 1991 I was diagnosed with cancer and they told ne it would take only 1 treatment to get rid if it, well six and a half years later I was still being treated for the same problem, so they told me they were going to try something else so I got up and they saw only my back as I was leaving. I moved from that state and visited another doctor, they checked me out and they said i didn't have cancer. So I decided to eat well, live right and so far, im still here worshiping the most high God.

At first thought my eyes stood out like fatness, even looking through the yellow pages, but at that time I had two small children and not knowing if I was going to live are die even looking for someone to raise my children if I didn't make it, you see I had a lot of decisions to thank out, I chose to live and not die, and know that the almighty God had a purpose for my life either it was a misdiagnoses are I had a miraculous healing, and i chose the latter. Now I'm able to see my two children become adults and also two grandchildren. And I have a testimony that life and death is in the power of the tongue, and that we have a Divine Physician Healer, and there is a balm in Gilead, but it is not recognize, there is a physician but not acknowledge, if these to are around there must be a recovery.

It was because long years ago ppl did not trust doctors. Hospitals were a place to die not get treated. Trust is very important. There are still MD that exploit ppl with Cancer diagnosis etc. Also a long hx of experimentation.

While growing up my parents where medical professionals. Mom was a Nurse, Dad was a Dentist. We had excellent medical care during childhood. They were excellent because we had excellent Health Insurance. When we became older, At 12, I developed a keloid on my ears and had it removed. when it returned the doctor REFUSED to administer Steriods to retard the growth. Eventually, we found a doctor who successfully removed the growth. In my opinion its about the Insurance Coverage that counts to the business of running a hospital.

I went to the doctor and was prescribed different medications for my "hypertension". None of them brought my blood pressure down. I stopped taking the prescription medication and began a regimen of natural supplements and exercise. I not only brought my blood pressure down, but I also lost weight and I am more healthy today than I've been in my life!

Now auh days we can't trust no one, but The Most High because its a lot of our own kind hate each other. . Why I don't understand.. It's wrong all the way round.. The Bible is just showing us the lastdays.. Instead of we preparing for The Lord coming back soon we stead of adjusting.. Worry about and doing things that's not gone get us into Heaven.. No Matter what we still got to Love ❤️ one another and forgive the one/ones that wrong us.. 🙏❤ By the way I'm African American as well.. Love thy Neighbor that harm you and let God be Thy Judge.. Wrong is wrong no matter what.. I've done wrong and I know I'm not perfect now, but if God can forgive us of our wrong doing.. Why can't We??

For very legit reasons, previous generations have passed down a pejorative view of the "system." That combined with economics, results in a lot of us not going to the doctor. Black people with money, and common sense still go all the time though.

I went to the dentist to get two wisdom teeth taken out. They gave the information to not eat the night before because they said I would have anesthesia. When I went in, the doctor waa very rude to me, stuck a needle in my mouth and right after pulled my teeth without waiting at all. My husband was surprised when I came out within 20 minutes! I bled for days and was in pain for months! I don't go to dentist now.

That's a lie and stereotype I always go to my medical doctor for medical check ups to find out if there is something physically wrong with me. I am healthy now because I have a decent medical doctor that care about my health status and I care about my physical and mental health. Black people please! go to a black american medical doctor that cares about your physical and mental well being. Please go.

Everyones experience may not turn out as well. people should check behind the doctor ,check side effects of meds ,check the reasons for the treatments ,keep dates ,times and meds down for your records. make this short the doctor wanted to do a mastectomy on my sister, i told her to visit another doctor and new tests. she had no cancer, come to find out ,all the ladies in my sisters neighborhood had radical vasectomies by the same doctor that my sister had. knowledge is powerful.

I did go to the doctor to find out I had a mild case of COPD. How i found out is that my insurance called me and wonder why I wasn't going for the test long story short my doctor knew, almost a year that I had COPD and never said anything to me. Had it not been for the insurance person contacting me to go take a test, how progressive was the COPD I would not have known my doctor had know intention on telling me.

I was wondering: am I being purposely made blind to need glasses lol Believe it or not, I genuinely hope I'm overreacting and being the foolish one here When I get close to my phone, it feels blurry, that never happened before and I don't want to rely on glasses

At least they can freely choose their doctors. Where I live, doctors assign patients by streets. Unless you have some damn serious reason not to, you can't change what doctor you're registered at. Well, in theory it should be possible, but in practice the doctors have an unwritten deal that they don't take over each other's patients. OTOH, unlike in the US, we have public health insurance so we don't need to pay ridiculous amounts of money at the doctor of for individual insurance.
