theory: ethan's hat in itself isn't magical. hannah subconsciously channeled her connection to the Black and White into it because she believed that it would protect her, so then it was able to. similarly, webby used the hat as a means of protection for hannah, up until she lost the hat.

That sounds possible. It kinda ties in to the "belief" theme of the show, like the thing General McNamara does to ward off the Snigglies or basically wigglys plan with the dolls. The dolls are supposed to take you to "drousy town" (which is like the state the people are in when they're around a Wiggly doll) they make you believe that wiggly can solve your problems with a false promise, Hannah being able to channel her own beliefs into an object would mirror this quite nicely. I don't necessarily subscribe to it but it's a pretty solid theory

I didn’t think the hat was ever magical. A combination of being a child and having Webby protected Hannah from Wiggly’s influence, not the hat. He just used the hat to make her feel safer about holding the doll with her.

My theory for the next show is that since everyone goes to Hidgens' house, he meets Lex. Who of course is called Alexandra, so he immediately calls her Alexa instead. The real Alexa gets insanely jealous and the next apocalypse is a robot/AI uprising that ends with a twist about robots self destructing

This is kind of long so sorry in advance: My theory is that Webby is Jane. We know that Webby is most likely a girl since Hannah refers to her as she. Jane's death is also the reason so much happens in the first place: Emma coming back, Tom quitting his job, Lex dropping out of school, the reason Tom feels he needs to get a Wiggly for Tim, why Becky kills her husband, and probably more that I'm not thinking of. So why is a character we haven't met so important to so many people. Well I don't think her death was an accident, and that is the moment when everything resets on the timeline, hence why it is the one thing that remains consistent between the two shows. Tom claims he never saw the car coming, but what if that was the point, and Wiggly meant to kill Jane. When she died she entered the black and white, and took on the role of Webby to try and prevent Wiggly from ending the world, and she is the one reseting the timeline every time the world is not saved. Another theory I have is that it is a Groundhog Day thing. The big reason being because of the constant theme of time in both shows. Also because no one is questioning the singing in Black Friday. We know from TGWDLM that people don't just break into song and dance in this world. Even Paul (who freaked out in TGWDLM) doesn't seemed phased by the singing, and sings along in the end. Paul also does not mention that he doesn't like musicals, just the musical commercial for the Wiggly doll. I think this is because TGWDLM was Wiggly's first attempt at taking over the world, and when the timeline was reset, the effects of the apotheosis didn't disappear, so it appears more normal.

I like the Jane theory, but for the loop, I’m not so sure. I always thought TGWDLM was one of the last ones: in the title number, they call it “The last remaining story to tell.” And in the not your seed Scene in TGWDLM, just before PEIP arrives, the hivemind talks abt how Paul has time and time evaded doomsday, or rather the apotheosis, or some other apocalyptic thing, (and if my memory serves me right they mention that TGWDLM was their third attempt.) What if time isn’t exactly linear, as suggested by the daily rests? A theory I had was that Hatchetfield, in a series of timelines, always gets chosen for some sort of doomsday, and were not exactly seeing resets, were seeing DIFFERENT TIMELINES, as suggested by the different time skips in the two musicals so far. Although I’d like the third entry to be a happy ending where everyone doesnt die for a change, I have a feeling itll be another all death ending, but we’ll be getting more explanations and a deeper look at the “lore” of hatchetfield and everything thats going on.

Mhm, this is so true! I do believe she could very feasibly be portrayed as autistic, and that would be so valid of Starkid, but a part of me also thinks her mental blockade with communication has something to do with Wiggly and/or Webby. I suspect her being unable to voice her thoights, feelings, and visions is either Wiggly trying to keep her quiet to ensure he won't be defeated, or Webby trying to protect her / warn her in some way, and Hannah just gets overwhelmed because she is babey.

I've seen this somewhere else and I've added to it but here goes: The hat Ethan gave Hannah was actually magical. It protects the user from harm, but once taken off it puts the person in more danger. This would explain why Ethan was killed shortly after handing the hat over and Hannah was in more danger after Linda took it. It protected Hannah from the dangers of the mall as well as Becky's needle.

My theory is that McNamera is the same character across both timelines. He's the only non-resident of hatchetfield to sing, and when he does you can clearly see that the president and his cabinet are confused at first. He's also one of the only characters with knowledge of the other dimensions. I think that he was infected with the musical alien but was able to retain control of himself (I don't think he every technically appears after the America song) and even after they get to him he's still singing about his country being great. We also know that PEIP (or PIEP) can go between dimensions so who's to say he couldn't have come from a different one. Heck, he could have come because he knew Willy would've been coming after this dimension.

I've seen a few theories I really like, such as: 1) Wilbur Cross / "Uncle Wiley" is Lex and/or Hannah's father; this would explain their natural connection to the Black and White! He might also have just been a general PEIP agent, but it would be pretty cool to have that link 👌also, having an antagonist for a father on top of Lex and Hannah's deadbeat mom would really nail in "born into moral poverty" for them. 2) Ethan's hat really IS magical, because Hannah believes it is! Hannah obviously has a deeper understanding of the world than most people, and we don't know the full extent of her power. Maybe, because Ethan was able to convince Hannah that the hat was magical, it really was! This would explain why Ethan fell immediately into harm's way after losing the hat, and how Charlotte was able to break free from the cult during the fire!

I always thought it was multi-dimensional within the same town, which is why there are different evils, but I like the groundhog day theory better. TGWDLM also mentions 'time' a little more subtly than Black Friday. The songs La Dee Dah Dah Day and Show Stoppin Number mention some passage of time ('Just a typical day' + 'last weekend feels like ages ago'). It also makes sense since that TGWDLM doesn't mention time as obviously as Black Friday since the characters in Black Friday are subconsciously beginning to understand what is happening to them (i.e. repeating the day till they get it right). The only thing I don't understand with the groundhog day theory is that Paul + Emma are together in Black Friday but they get together in TGWDLM. Maybe because they did that one thing right in The Guy, that they get to keep it?

I though it was because the universe reset after TGWDLM, the new Black Friday timeline started, but for some reason the apocalyptic event didn’t come as soon as in TGWDLM and Paul and Emma had time to get together and become a couple. There’s no reference to what time of year it is in TGWDLM, but they also never say it’s around thanksgiving or Christmas or anything.

If Not Your Seed is to be believed, then Alice’s biological father is someone other than Bill. Lex and Hannah are also of questionable paternity, and Lex even mentions her “father’s hopeless seed” in the song Black Friday. What does this mean? Are they related? Nerdy Prudes Must Die is almost certainly going to involve Grace Chastity, who is the same generation as Alice. Maybe we’ll find out that Alice also has special black-and-white powers, and that she gets it from her biological father.

Alright, theories. 1. Angela's character in Santa Goes to High School is actually Lex, who got her first acting gig as an extra, and that's why Hannah wanted to go see the movie (Could work as headcanon). 2. The Father in Trail to Oregon also has abilities that let him see into the Black and White, as he looks into the camera, and the events of Dysentery World are him looking into the Black and White, with Joey's character being an entity from the Black and White (possibly even Wiggly/Wilbur Cross). (Definitely not canon). 3. General McNamara's husband is Xander Lee (Could work as headcanon). 4. Webby caused the meteor to stop Wiggly in the alternate dimension of TGWDLM, as Wiggly could not infect them if they were already infected with something else (something that's relatively harmless in comparison). (Unlikely)

I read a theory a while ago, I don't remember who came up with it, but here we go: John McNamara is Lex and Hannah's bio dad, which explains Hannah having a few aspects related to John. The looks at the camera, the dimensions, and the iconic "Wear a watch". It also explains how John acted very assuring and fatherly towards Lex when he was offering her his firearm. When John left for PEIP, Lex and Hannah's mom became an alcoholic... which led to her crashing into Jane's car. (Side note: I LOVE the theory of John and Wilbur/Wiley being husbands, Starkid said bi rights)

No one is talking about the fact that they clearly mention other dimensions in the show, Tom even says to Becky that maybe in another dimension they are together and married, so my theory is that TGWDLM is in one universe and Black Friday is in another. It’s the same people but different versions of them. I think McNamara found a way into other dimensions when he was in the Black and White. Also, we don’t see much “white” in the Black and White, I know it’s just a name, but who do we see wearing white and is some other weirdly creature with magical abilities? CHORN!!!!!! The only thing with Hidgens and McNamara, wouldn’t John have went back to save him if they were married. I saw on Instagram that people were shipping McNamara and James peip character (I cant remember his name) the only thing with that is he probably would’ve introduced him as his husband to the president but you can’t say it wouldn’t make sense Edit: someone else may have said this (I don’t think so) but what if Hidgens is a retired member of peip. Think about it he said that he theorized the guy who didn’t like musicals or the apotheosis maybe he did that while working for peip and if he is McNamara’s husband what if that’s how they met, AND he probably was so prepared for the apocalypse because of his time at peip. My theory is that Jane Perkins(Houston) is the protagonist of Nerdy Prudes Must Die. Because, she's dead in both the dimensions and the cause of her death is also the same. Something happened and she is the main reason for all this happening. Also, we know that she's at the top of her game always and basically a nerd (Both Emma and Tom has said). Also, she could've been a teacher in Hatchetfield High because due to her influence, other nerds like Hot Chocolate Boy, Grace Chastity, Cineplex Teen are also gonna be the main characters in the 3rd installment.

my theory is it's going to be something on the final girl trope. We've had the body snatchers/zombie/virus trope and the eldrich/cult/society destroys itself tropes. Typically the final girl is a 'nerdy prude' so it's likely they will try to turn that on it's head.

My only problem with the Groundhog Day theory is that the two musicals clearly take place at different times during the year. Black Friday is occurs in late November, which makes sense as in the musical there are Christmas lights up and everyone is wearing heavy/warm clothing. However, TGWDLM doesn't seem to take place in late fall/winter, considering what everyone is wearing. I though it was because the universe reset after TGWDLM, the new Black Friday timeline started, but for some reason the apocalyptic event didn’t come as soon as in TGWDLM and Paul and Emma had time to get together and become a couple. I have 2 theories: 1) About Webby 2) About Charlotte and Ethan's hat 1) Webby is Wilbur Cross, but Uncle Wiley is also Wilbur Cross. When MacNamara entered the black and white, he said something along the lines that his consciousness(?) would be absorbed into the b&w and his human body would not be able to leave, since he hadn't gone in with a space suit thing. I think that when Wilbur Cross entered the b&w, his consciousness remained inside, but his human body was kept intact, hence he emerged as a raging lunatic who pledged himself to wiggly. His body was then overtaken by wiggly's brainwashing powers and thus became Uncle Wiley. However, his actual consciousness, which had remained in the b&w, is able to communicate interdimensionally with Hannah - hence, Webby. Alternatively, rather than his consciousness, it could be his ghost - the paranormal of PEIP. As we can see MacNamara is able to communicate with Lex from the b&w - I think Wilbur Cross can do the same, but in a far less coherent way because his consciousness and body is separated. However, this will explain how Webby knows about the "two doors not one" stuff because Uncle Wiley would have known, being the mouthpiece of wiggly. This leads to a little sub-theory I have is that BF's MacNamara is also subtly influencing TGWDLM's MacNamara. Not much proof, just a hunch. That because BF's MacNamara is able to transcend dimensions, some of his actions, words, beliefs etc. are reflected in TGWDLM's MacNamara which leads to both versions seemingly knowing more than anyone else without extra explanation. 2) Charlotte appears twice in BF, which confused me a lot. First, when Linda&co. captured Hannah. Two, at the final scene. In the first appearance, Charlotte is clearly under Wiggly's spell, and it would also be in character for her to want a wiggly because of her unhappy marriage and infidelity. I think there's plenty of theories explaining that Ethan's hat is actually magical and protected Hannah, until it got removed by Linda. It makes sense that Linda could do that because she is the Prophet. Then /Charlotte/ puts on the hat. She has it on until she leaves mid-scene, thus she isn't seen to be dying in the fire that Lex sets. She isn't even there for Linda's death. Next thing she reappears in the final scene, with the same cat sweater, but without the hat. I theorize that the magic hat is what helped Charlotte out of her brainwashed state and led her to leave the mall, thus avoiding the fire there. (Edit: I realized that Gary Goldstein isn't in the fire scene as well - possibly off to talk to Gerald about the will? Perhaps then that is another clue that Wiggly's brainwashing spell isn't as strong as TGWDLM's which basically killed off the original person. People can break free of Wiggly's spell as soon as they realize there's something more meaningful/important than what a doll would ever bring)

I'm going to dump as many theories as i come across or think up here because theres sO MANY. When I first watched BF, I had a theory that wiggly was the leader of the hive from tgwdlm, which explains the singing. This has since been disproven though I have a massive hunch that we'll see way more of hannah and lex throughout the series because of their powers, but also that Nerdy Prudes Must Die will focus on the paranormal, as we've seen extraterrestrial (tgwdlm) and interdimentional (bf) which makes ⅔ of peip. I also have a dumb little theory that ted or Charlotte's last name is Chastity. this is mainly because Nick said he wouldn't reveal Ted's last name because it might spoil some stuff. it makes sense if Ted's daughter was Grace Chastity, because I doubt Bill is familiar with many high schoolers, unless introduced through alice or his co-workers, and Ted probably encourages the prudiness a bit. The main flaw in this is that I dont think Ted is married, so it makes more legal sense for Grace to be Charlotte and Sam's. Someone on tumblr suspected that hatchetfield is a testing area, where peip test different forms of traumatic events and monitor reactions and impacts. if something goes wrong, they just wipe people's memories and start again, which explains the weird timeline Jane is a vital character for linking both of the hatchetfield musicals together thus far, as she is a constant factor, and her story doesnt change at all (died in crash, ruined her family) and i feel like this also ties in nicely with the trauma theory, as she sets a starting point. I like the idea that tgwdlm and bf are different universes, with no relationship other than location and time. I'm also kinda sold on the loop theory though! in what if tommorow comes, hannah is probably talking about the fact that hatchetfield is in some sort of hell-loop, but if anything were to happen to break that loop, hatchetfield would be endangered. She says "what if tommorow comes to break the dawn, and theres no-one to stay?" which means that they a) get out of the loop but b) when people die, they die for good. And hatchetfield might not be ready for that. I also think the noise at the end is neither a nuke or the meteor, but instead the looping.

My sister and I have so many lmaooo. We've had too much time on our hands since the digital ticket came out. Some of our favorites - 1. The town is caught in some kind of time loop, ending when everyone in town is dead. TGWDLM is just too damn prevalent in BF for us to write it off as "just an alternate universe". In 'What If Tomorrow Comes', Hannah knows they are all going to die. She knows they have died before. She uses her connection to the Black and White to show the other characters the previous loops. ("Do you all see the memories? Tomorrow reminds me,") Now the rest of the characters know they're going to die, and they take over singing for Hannah, knowing tomorrow will come, and maybe next time, they will get things right and survive. But not this time. 2. Hidgens was infected by handling the blue shit in the lab / He worked for PEIP back in the day, explaining why he seems to know so much. 3. Paul was like Hannah as a kid, but wanted so desperately to be normal that he suppressed his connection to the Black and White as best he could. As an adult, his connection looks more like a "sixth sense" sort of thing. He's the first one to see that anything is wrong in TGWDLM and he hits the nail right on the head in BF ("It's just mania, Emma. Like a spell.") 4. McNamara is going to be Lex's ghost mentor in the next show ("I can show you the path, but only you can walk it.") Goes along with the Paranormal thing. 5. McNamara's husband is Xander Lee. Because why not.

I have a theory that is completely unfounded but is really cool. I don't know if they're in an actual time loop. I think it's entirely possible that the government is using Hatchetfeild in some sort of experiment. They're testing something. It would go something like this. The government introduces a new threat into Hatchetfeild, they then do whatever they need to do, afterwards they erase the memories of the people in the town and do it all again. I think that PEIP is the organization in charge of the experiment. You'll notice that McNamara didn't die in TGWDLM, so that leads me to believe that Mcnamara is the same version of himself in both shows. I think any and all supernatural/extraterrestrial has always been contained in Hatchetfeild until the Events of Black Friday. The Wiggly experiment went awry, and it led to an actual world ending scenario. This is what led to the president learning about PEIP and going into the black and white.

So I had this theory that in TGWDLM they got Emma and Paul, and it eventually spread to the entire world meaning everyone is in a "musical" However now that everyone is infected the people don't need to infect anyone, the people go back to their normal lives, except they break into singing and dancing. I thought it was weird that in TGWDLM Paul and Emma knew people were singing and were confused, but in BF they didn't notice and seemed unaffected. Also, they were both singing at the very end of BF, which is something Paul would never do.

For the latte hatte, I think it’s Zoe. Ted says that the latte hatte is “his wife”, meaning that they must be married. I think Zoe, who married young felt the pressure of being with ted so started cheating on him with Sam. Charlotte finds out and so does ted, so they decide to take revenge and sleep with each other, but it turns into a bigger thing that Charlotte is obviously not to happy about, but ted is so insecure that he hides it and just persuades her to keep their affair up.

Slightly oddball theory but here goes: Tom is the 'centre' of the Groundhog Day theory. We know he was married to Jane, and she's been mentioned in both BF and TGWDLM, so Tom was obviously in them both as well. We know he's Emma's brother-in-law, so Emma would have been worried about him in TGWDLM, or at least have mentioned him or had some concern for him, but she only talks about Jane and never mentions Tom or gets worried about him, maybe because he's used to these things. In Black Friday, yes he's pulled in by Wiggly's lure, but he's easily convinced by Lex that he doesn't need the Wiggly, and then easily realises what Wiggly's trying to do. He may often only be tricked by the different events in the Groundhog Day loop if it's not similar to something that's happened before. He may not have as much understanding of it as Macnamara or Hidgens, but he doesn't need that understanding, because once he also succumbs to the lure of the next Groundhog Day trap, it will be over, because there will finally be no survivors. Apparently in TGWDLM there were none, but maybe he managed to escape without anyone knowing.

In tgwdlm, Emma talks about her sister who died and that could just be a whole tragic backstory type thing but then in BF, It starts with Emma, her brother in law, and her nephew,(not including Paul)that are still mourning the loss of, her dead sister as aforementioned in tgwdlm. Why would they play such an important role in the show if It was just a tiny detail to give Emma her "Tragic backstory™"? That's where PEIP comes in. theory: alice is not bill's daughter. never was. Bill thinks alice is 18- i have a screencap somewhere where bill says "i know alice is 18, she's a senior" or something like that. In Not Your Seed, when Alice says she's seventeen, Bill's face drops and he looks SO surprised and sad. So, my theory is that when Alice's mom(AM) and Bill were in HS, they fooled around a bunch. AM decides to break up with Bill at graduation, goes and gets pregnant with Alice. Six years later, when Alice is 5, AM finds out that Bill has moved up in the world, has a little money, and decides she wants a little of that money. So she calls up Bill, tells him Alice is his, and Bill decides to do the honorable thing and marry her. We know Bill is religious, so this seems like a thing he would do. Alice, who is 5yo, is a little confused about why they celebrate her 7th birthday instead of her 6th this year, but eventually just rolls with it and forgets about it. When Alice is supposedly 16, actually 15, AM divorces Bill to go marry her lover, who is a VERY well off doctor in Clivesdale, DOctor monroe of inner beauty rhinoplasty. Yes, folks, Linda is Alice's mom, but doesn't really count Alice as her kid, just wants to infuriate Bill. This is how she can send Alice to see Hamilton. But since Linda doesn't really care about Alice, as shown by a) she never talks about Alice and B) she lets Alice do whatever she wants, doesn't care if Deb sleeps over or Alice smokes or Alice doesn't show up when she's supposed to be back from Hatchetfield, Alice wants to live with Bill rather than her 4 stepbrothers and uncaring mom and stepdad. When Alice is infected, her memory of that 7th bday party and her confusion, the reality of her father, it all comes flooding back. Thus the infected Alice sings, "If you ever actually payed attention to me, you'd see I'm not your seed." So, Alice's real dad (ARD), (Ted maybe? who knows) goes off and keeps fooling around with a bunch of women, finally ends up with this beauty, Lex's mom. If it is Ted, that would explain why Ted's last name, Foster, would be a spoiler. Anyway, maybe it isn't Lex and Hannah's dad who made their connection to the black and white, but their mom. She works at PEIP, goes near, but not through the portal, and sometimes brings her kids with her to work. Lex is always very careful, but Hannah enters a portal one day, and Cross goes in to bring Hannah out. So- Lex's mom and Lex both have this very vague and unexplored connection to the black and white, which comes from being near the portal, but Hannah becomes "crazy", just like Cross. Lex's mom tries to drink away the stress of the secrecy of her job, raising two kids, having one kid who is crazy, and having to afford daycare now because she can't take Lex and Hannah with her anymore, and slowly falls into depression and anger mismanagement. Thus, a bitch, an alcoholic, and a melancholic. ANYWAY they're all connected and this is gonna be a genius series.

I have a theory that both TGWDLM and Black Friday are both happening at the same time. I mean, if you think about it, it makes sense. Many of the characters in TGWDLM appear in Black Friday. They both happen at the same place - hatchetfield - and in TGWDLM, there isn''t really an ending. I mean, it ends with Emma being brought to Clivesdale, and Paul finds her - but we don't really know what happens to her or paul. In the final song, everyone is in the outfits from TGWDLM. In one of the TGWDLM songs, a line is "got a 411 in a shopping mall" a 411 is a stolen vehicle. So whos in a shopping mall in hatchetfield? Yep, its ethan and hannah

I think it's entirely possible that the government is using Hatchetfeild in some sort of experiment. They're testing something. It would go something like this. The government introduces a new threat into Hatchetfeild, they then do whatever they need to do, afterwards they erase the memories of the people in the town and do it all again. I think that PEIP is the organization in charge of the experiment. You'll notice that McNamara didn't die in TGWDLM, so that leads me to believe that Mcnamara is the same version of himself in both shows. I think any and all supernatural/extraterrestrial has always been contained in Hatchetfeild until the Events of Black Friday. The Wiggly experiment went awry, and it led to an actual world ending scenario. This is what led to the president learning about PEIP and going into the black and white.

I have a theory for what Nerdy Prudes Must Die could possibly be about. The name Grace Chastity sounds extremely pure, right? My far-fetched theory is that Nerdy Prudes Must Die is going to be based off of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Please stick with me. Here's what the story could be: Grace Chastity is, well a nerdy prude. And there is this new beauty product that can change that. So she uses it and voila! She's absolutely stunning! And since it does wear off over time, she gets addicted to it. And the persona that comes out when she takes it becomes bad and starts killing Grace's friends. Because, after all nerdy prudes must die. That's all I've got. Thanks for reading this lump of trash. wait i have a theory okay so you know how in Black Friday and TGWDLM both musicals shine the spotlight on one character before shifting the spotlight to another seemingly side character, for example, in tgwdlm Paul didn't survive so they showed Emma at the end scene (also they told more of emma's backstory than Paul's) and in Black Friday the opening scene opens with Tom but Lex is the one who saves him from Wiggly's spell so what if the next musical (Nerdy Prudes Must Die) focuses on Grace Chasity at first but the Hot Chocolate Boy is the one who grabs the spotlight at the end

You know, I have no proof whatsoever, but I have this headcannon that each character in both Hatchetfeild shows serves a role? Those roles being Prophet, Guide, Healer, Hero, Protector, and Warrior. Like, for example - Prophet: Hannah/ Hidgens Guide: Gen. Mac (Both Times) Healer: Becky/ Charlotte (Loosely, though) Protector: Ethan/ Bill (Loosely, but still) Hero: Lex/Paul Warrior: Tom/Emma My headcannon is that part of the reason why Hatchetfield keeps being destroyed is because these people keep failing. In TGWDLM, the Prophet turned on them, and the guide, healer, and protector all died. Plus, the chosen Hero succumbed as well, so they failed to save it. I like to imagine that Webby chose these roles for them, (and chose Paul only because he didn't like musicals) but when Paul failed, Webby decided to choose younger people for the roles, being less easy to corrupt. This isn't really a theory, just an interesting thought I like to imagine.
