I'm a mixed girl mom's Indian/Chinese and my dad's Italian,German and French mix and I do have a lot of hair too like wavy hair. I have been studying hairdressing for 3 years and graduated but never worked in a salon for more than 7 months as I converted to makeup artistry. I went to my Japanese husband's salon where he does his hair in Sydney,Australia and it's a Japanese salon. And the girl asked me to come 30 mins early because she never did mixed girl's hair. My hair is like naturally straight on the roots but wavy (not curly but waves) at the end. And they tend to be a little puffy if I don't do blowdrying and straightening. And I wanted a bob cut like longer on the front and shorter on the back with layers and a fringe. And the girl panicked because she said my hair was impossible to do. But I helped her explained to her how my hair behave how my capilaries are I actually have thin hair BUT a looot grows but the fiber itself is thin I know because at the hairdressing school we had to pull our hair and look under a microscope and my teacher told me my hair is thin but a lot grows so makes it look puffy and thick. So I helped the girl and she was shocked how easy my hair are to straighten and blowdry they get straight right away when she go over with her brush. But they really are happy to learn and try things they never did before and I really have a lot of respect and admiration for Asian hairdressers they don't reject you they try and get curious. The girl thanked me because now she has experience with mixed hair and I was happy she did get experience because of me. Now she can do many different types of hair with confidence and I always go to her whenever I need a cut 😊 Back in France where I come from French hairdressers always refused to handle my hair and if they accept they give me a lot of restrictions like don't do blond you're tanned it will look ugly, don't cut short it's not good for your hair type, dont do layers it will make your hair look weird etc... always had issues...but strangely since I go to a Japanese salon here in Australia they let me try anything and everything 😍

To think Japanese people by no fault whatsoever, have never seen a black person and yet they can do Black hair this well. In the U.S a white american stylist will have seen many Black people, and black hair many times and won’t BOTHER to learn Black hair, a missed opportunity. As a new hairdresser myself, who does all hair types, Becky stylists get on my nerves.

I am glad that you brought your own products to show the hairstylist how to manage your hair properly. Compared to some of the other videos I've seen from various European or Asian countries doing natural hair. You are the first who did the right thing. Especially when this is the first time with or without some experience doing natural for people of color. He really did a good job on your hair.

Your hair is very beautiful. You are 100% right about most hairstylist being offended if you tell them how to do their job. In this case though since he probably doesn't have a lot of experience with your type of hair texture , he was open to learning. That’s a great idea especially when you’re in a different country , it’s always good to bring your own hair products. I do the same as well, especially when I go to a salon here in the states (white owner) that does color highlights.. I had to bring in my own hair products and comb etcs.. because they don’t know how to style it so I had to do it myself. I know there’s plenty salon here in the states but it’s far and hard to find the right person that knows how to deal with curly Afro hair so do speak 🗣.
