Nice work. I would think the inside is pitted and access plate wont seal. Maybe fiberglass inside plate or weld it.

Thanks for [posting! A very clever way of fixing the tank. I look forward to seeing the Fall update on how it held up.

I am finally getting around to repairing my fuel tank. I have a CHB 34aft cabin I scraped out the center section of the tank right below. It has rusted all the way through for about an inch. Can I use JB Weld or should I weld that before glass inside any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.

It must be hard to do a proper job though that small hole. Why wasn't you cutting a square hole?

My only concern is that the tank appeared to have a rough surface and I'm wondering whether the fiberglass resin and cloth are really permanently adhered to the tank. Good luck.

Robert, the only parts of my tank that concerned me were the bottom and the seams where the bottom meets the sides. So I didn't try to come up the sides at all, just glassed the bottom with enough resin to fill any crevices in the seams. I don't think my tank was actually leaking. I saw some fuel oil behind the stringer next to the tank and thought the tank was leaking, but when I drained the tank and filled it with water, there were no leaks. Now I think I may have overfilled the tank and the leak was from the hose connection on the fill pipe. But the outside of the bottom of my tank was quite rusted, so I figured I would be safe and glass it. I had fiberglass diesel fuel tanks in my lobster boat. Keep in mind that epoxy adheres better than polyester resin. I never use polyester resin any more. Good luck with your project.

I remember in the video it’s not there in the video now that you treated the inside of the tank with something after you cleaned it out we really need to know what that is. I’m ready to go. I got the hose cut. I cleaned it all out and I just don’t want to do it wrong from here going out. I was wondering what that was you you prepped it with for your glasses
