Agreed 110% ! Any mechanical instrument should be an _ACCENT_ to the vocal component of a song. That said, there are SOME tunes that are best as pure instrumentals, Canon in D by Pachelbel comes to mind immediately along with quite a bit of Wagner.

I can’t get over how incredible this wonderful creation of music is. It has brought me to tears. The togetherness, the sense of longing, the choir supporting the solo as though they know his pain, the bass line holding everything in place like glue, the soprano descant. All of it was marvelous.

I remember singing this beautiful old song in my secondary school Music class, in San Francisco, in the early 1970s. We had a wonderful young teacher; he must have been in his mid-30s, but to us, of course, he seemed "an old man..." He taught me so much about music, music history & music appreciation! God bless all teachers of Great Music! Thank you for this video, and for your devotion to the high art of A Capella signing.

*The correct lyrics, as written in the official booklet of the album "‘Invisible Stars - Choral Works from Ireland and Scotland":* Black is the colour of my true love’s hair, Her lips are like some roses fair; She has the sweetest smile, the gentlest hands, And I love the ground whereon she stands. I love my love, and well she knows, I love the ground whereon she goes; I wish the day soon would come, When she and I will be as one. I go to the Clyde and mourn and weep, But satisfied I never shall be; I write her a letter with a few short lines, and suffer death a thousand times. Black is the colour of my true love’s hair, Her lips are like some roses fair; She has the sweetest smile, the gentlest hands, And I love the ground whereon she stands.
