I feel so bad for Peter. He did such an amazing job in this song, but everyone is gushing over Avi. Avi is an amazing singer and a wonderful, rich bass. But let's not forget Peter can sing tenor and his voice is clean like a bell. They both killed it in this song.

One of the things that makes Avi so incredible is that he’s got such a smooth sounding voice AND he’s a bass. Usually basses have rougher and bigger voices (which isn’t necessarily bad) but Avi has this sweetness and relaxed sound to him that makes him so great to listen to
@zain40195 жыл бұрын
Niko Porter YES EXACTLY. I personally don’t like the sound of the regular bass voice, but Avis is so gentle and soothing as well as low and deep. It’s perfect :)
@sarahkleimeyer37924 жыл бұрын
His voice is like expensive chocolate!
@jowolf21874 жыл бұрын
That's partly because a lot of the guys who people think are basses are actually baritones - and it's kinda pushing it for us to get our voices that low so it gets that kind of breathy, growl-esque tone to it (it happens to me and most of the other guys I know who try to go lower than we are technically able to). There's also a darker harsher tone present in the lower range period, so it's just naturally present when guys who have that really low range. I have to assume that Avi is classically trained, because he can hit notes a lot higher than many basses (and that only comes with training and years of practice) and he has learned to smooth out that natural grit that other basses tend to embrace (for example Tim Foust legit sounds like a cross between thunder and a wolf's growl).
@liambreen78924 жыл бұрын
Jo Wolf Avi is classically trained and also majored in opera in college. I think one thing that helps him have such smooth, relaxed low notes is the fact his talking voice is very low as well, so the notes are comfortable

This was quite wonderful. I was especially impressed by Avi, so found this video through searching for more stuff by him - now I discovered Peter Hollens. What a great pairing, this duet. :) What I particularly like about Avi is that even though he's most famous for his lower range, when he sings in his mid to higher range, he has a really, really beautiful tone. His range is great, and none of it sounds strained.

your lypmh nodes have nothing to do with your voice. It's all about the thickness of your vocal cords and the amount of a particular type of testosterone that is released during puberty from your testes. That's why boys with good soprano ranges were castrated during the renaissance, to keep their voice from dropping in range. Training can help with lubrication to somewhat expand your range and in particular shorten the gap between head voice and chest voice, but unless you are naturally at least a second baratone, getting truly into the bass range is going to be extremely difficult.

Jorie Von Ohlen well ive also been sick so that might be why my lymph nodes hurt lol, but ive been doing SO much practice (from military push ups to strength my chest and neck) to humming meditation, each night for an hour or 2, because....well. when it comes to choral things, i love the bass the most of all, like i have nothing against tenors/sopranos, or any of that, but i just love the bass.

Veronica Jones 🧐 You should probably watch David Larson and David Kahn’s version then. It’s much more consistent and intact.
@leaarinwarkentine3 жыл бұрын
@@cat_kingslayer3232 I'm quite confused by what you meant. Consistent? Intact?
@cat_kingslayer32323 жыл бұрын
@@leaarinwarkentine I’m not sure why I used that particular wording. So many months ago. I find that the extra harmonies etc they’ve added actually make the song disjointed and it doesn’t flow as well. Not to mention, they changed up two specific areas near the beginning verses , basically rendering their potential awesomeness as now Void. And they don’t do well about bringing out the emotional aspect of it at all. I much prefer David Larsen and David Kahn’s version.

The precision in Avi's voice is one to admire. Every vibrato, every riff... Speechless. His tone as well... Huge inspiration. EDIT: Done talking about the bass (Avi speaks for himself), Peter is my favorite tenor in the community. Best version of this song on the internet indeed, and my favorite acapella cover of all time. I've listened to this for at least 30 hours cumulatively, no exaggeration. Great job.

Because everyone talks about Avi: Peter Hollens is an amazing singer! He sings very low as well as (for a man) very high notes. Of course, Avi is one of the best bass-singers i ever heard, and Peter doesn't hit as low notes as him, but still, Peter is incredibly good. There will always be someone who is better than him, but if you look at his songs and remember that everything is sang by him, you see how much and in how many different directions he can sing. (I am sorry if i made any mistakes, but english isnt my native language)

Thranduil Oropherion He hits a low Db in Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, and it's absolutely beautiful. At the last note of this song, however, is a 4th below that. An amazing Ab. It's very hard to hear, but with headphones you can make it the growling that the note produces. Maybe with better headphones I'd be able to hear it more clearly..lol
