although natron failed to live up the hype, Davinci resolve came to the rescue with its free version. in this natron vs fusion comparison, i dont go deep in details, i only spent time to to mention what they all good at and the risk involved in either of them you choose.

Don't forget about Nuke Indie. Yeah it doesn't have the option of 3rd party rendering like Arnold, and it lacks some cross compatibility with other software (on purpose), but other than that, it has EVERY main feature of the $3500/year version. And it inly costs $300/year if I remember right. Great for learning.

Never heard of Fusion, getting free version just to play. Still learning Houdini. Also a free version of Houdini "apprentice" with is full version with restrictions, great for learning

Fusion doesn't have the attention it needs ever since black magic purchased it. Ive scheduled a video to Monday , it's an in-depth review of fusion.

1:53 I just had a look at the website for info on scripting, and the newest doc I could find was the “Fusion 8 Scripting Guide” from 2016. That still talks about Python 3.3, which is long obsolete. And the Python layer seems to be some kind of fudge on top of the real scripting language, which is their proprietary FusionScript. Proprietary apps often seem to fall down on their scripting support. It’s like they want you to pay extra for decent automation capabilities.

i had some info on why the 3d softwares used on the industrial level demands money for better scripting, I can't really remember the vivid details but I remember Nuke, Maya, 3Ds Max, Houdini and a few others demand huge sums of money from its users so they ca do scripting for you. It's purely a business strategy.

Thank you for that explanation. What mystifies me is why it happens to be such a _successful_ business strategy. I’m a long-time professional software developer who has worked with Python, Bash, LISP, Perl and a bunch of other languages, who dabbles with content creation more as a hobby than anything else. Why is scripting considered such a niche, specialist capability? I write scripts to do things like automate batch renders in Blender, do bulk format conversions and that kind of thing; it’s second nature to me. How do professional artists cope with such tasks? Are they really pointing and clicking through the same set of steps over and over, a hundred times a day?

Fix bugs, add enhancements, improve performance, that kind of thing. Improve things, not just for yourself but for everybody else. Hmm, let's not forget it's a 2.5D composer. most people would prefer to hop on after effect than to hire people on a natron project. Besides, the software developers for Natron have gone to sleep, they don't really care about what's going on with their users.

Why would they have gone to sleep? My guess is, it’s the usual problem: lack of funding. Why, with all these big budgets going into movie/video productions, is there so little money to go into supporting open-source projects that would benefit those productions?

You are right, lack of funding. Natron was a real competitor to nuke back in the days because of it's node based system but it's so unfortunate this had to happen to them. It would have been great if they sold it to blender in the beginning of blenders rise. Blenders compositing sucks at this point. Purchasing natron and integrating it into blender would have been a great deal for both parties
