I remember growing up in Northern part of South Africa. We would smell potatoes and we knew it was a snake. I just didn't realize it was a black mamba. I think the potatoes smell was a warning for humans specifically. They did not bother us though.

There are 2 green mambas the Eastern & Western the western lives in Ghana 🇬🇭 & Nigeria 🇳🇬 as well & shares most of the same regions as the black mamba though mostly these countries seem to be north of the equator just like the Eastern mamba & also the black mamba it's very shy but won't hesitate to defend itself if it's got no other choice

Not only is the black mamba more toxic drop by drop, but also with more venom yield per bite. The green is exclusively arboreal while the black is more terrestrial. It may depend on sizes & places. I think mambas are tolerant to peers, more so than cobras are. Of course, elapids are almost all cannibalistic, but mambas tend not to fight against others, even of different species, unless it is the mating season. Cobras seem to prey on peers more often, though opportunistically. Then, we have the king cobra & kraits which are definitely professional snake assassins.
