I appreciate the amount of subtle depth put in Pia’s death in Loch Henry. She ends up getting killed by the environment she loved and wanted to exploit it for a big hit film, even abandoning her previous plot against the egg stealing guy that harmed nature before hand. They even foreshadowed it by mentioning how people would naturally just die there given how dangerous the environment is various times. While it seems anticlimactic at first, she’s yet another nameless person taken by nature as stated in the film

To me Joan is Awful has a lot of important topics to discuss. The writers strike currently happening (and possibility actors upcoming strike) is about many things including the use of AI to write content. The fear AI will be replacing them while using their previous work to make new work. The dialogue was also a little off because that’s just how AI currently works. I think it’s also a commentary on being your own person, the danger of huge corporations vs the rights of consumers, and the consumption of watching someone’s fall from grace in society.

Loch Henry and Beyond the Sea were peak Black Mirror imo. Exceptional episodes. The exact reason why I loved the first 3 seasons of the whole concept. Overall season was nowhere near the quality of the first 3 seasons though but at least we got a couple of episodes what showed glimpses of the Black Mirror of old.

Beyond the Sea was almost great but it didn't quite work for me, the ideas and performances were great but I think it was a bit too long and dragged in a few places. Loch Henry was definitely my favourite though, I loved the commentary on true crime obsession and that twist had me completely stunned. I also really enjoyed both Joan Is Awful and Demon 79, so that's 4 out of 5 episodes that I liked from this season, which is a pretty good result I'd say

San Junipero came out in 2016, a year where many beloved lesbian/bisexual female characters were killed off (Lexa from the 100, Poussey from OITNB - to name a few) and fans were sick and tired of it. There were countless articles on the history and resurgence of Bury Your Gays. So while SJ isn't all rainbows and flowers, the end was sweet and "happy" in contrast to that horrible year for queer characters in media. It's a big reason why it got so hyped up and became a comfort episode for many queer fans. Just giving some context to the popularity behind it :)

I could understand a lot of people not liking Joan Is Awful as it may be considered "boring" or "uneventful" compared to the rest of the BM series (and I would agree), but if you look closer it's a cool commentary on society's tendency to gloss over important documents that could affect us and our bodies. Especially the ones that will tell us our rights regarding contracts or even government bills that we brush off, not noticing the reality of it. Not necessarily in a victim-blaming tone, but more of a "what could occur from disregarded attention to detail".

The newest season of Black Mirror is much more different compared to its previous seasons. Mazey Day certainly was shocking. Something with beyond on the title is twisted to its core. Loch Henry was alright. Demon 75 something was super dark. Literally the atmosphere and everything in there is very unsettling. The demon spirit whatever his name is, was real all along and just wasn’t a figment of cashier lady’s imagination. Joan is Awful was confusing, but funny as hell. Salma did her assignment and left that show with a bright smile on her face. Great reaction, by the way. Highly appreciate it.
