Don't know if anybody else mentioned the mythological aspect, but its so fitting that its in Greece- the twins names reflect their roles perfectly. Helen (as in Helen of Troy) coming in unnoticed to tear down everything from within and Cassandra, the woman who was cursed to see the future and have no one believe her (eg. seeing how bad 'Klear' actually was in the first place and no one really believing her and being killed for it). Whats even cooler, is that these two myths are actually connected to one another, but this comment is already long enough lol

The scene when everyone meets up in Greece is so brilliant because you're able to see exactly who they are just by how they're treating the pandemic. Lionel and Claire are both wearing their masks and staying away, showing their cautious personalities, Birdie is wearing the Lana mesh 'mask' and takes it off as soon as she can, and Duke doesn't even try to pretend to care about the protocol and comes in riding a bike with Whiskey, shooting out of a gun because 'it's for protection'. Andi comes later showing that she's a bit of a mystery to us, and Blanc is just watching them and is very intrigued. Such a great scene.
@vadalia3860
@vadalia3860 Жыл бұрын
Claire is also wearing the mask incorrectly and so keeps having to touch it and her face to fix it, defeating the purpose of wearing the mask in the first place. Showing she only cares about the outward appearances of doing the right thing and doesn't bother understanding how to correctly do that thing or educate herself about why it needs to be done properly.

I love that, especially on rewatch, you do see how dumb Miles is. He burnt the napkin because earlier in the film Benoit called him an idiot for not doing so. He went to kill Andi in his own car, the only car of its kind in the world. Miles also didn't think to ask WHO of friends invited Benoit to the island. The there's the fact that he shot Helen with gloves on, implying some forethought... but wasn't wearing gloves when he stole that gun off Duke. Just overall he's not the brightest bulb.

The last scene parallels Miles’ dumb*ss “disruption” speech from earlier in the movie. First smashing a bunch of small sh*t (the pretentious decorative art) that no one really cared about and kind of wanted to see broken anyways so they’ll support you, then smash bigger things (the bar top, burning down the mansion) and people will get apprehensive, won’t be on your side anymore. Then there’s the line that no one wants you to cross, something no one wants to see destroyed (the Mona Lisa) and a disruptor will see that line (cue double middle finger motion) and cross it. Also follows through on Andy’s email of “burning down his empire.”

This whole movie is truly a glass onion. It appears to have so many layers while everything is actually in plain sight. I saw Miles hand Duke the glass the first time I watched and knew it was intentional because Miles is the one who made the drink. The scene where "Andi" is running up to Blanc, he calls her "Helen." When Duke says he almost got pancaked, he said it twice, the first time being that Miles was the one who nearly ran him over. I knew that wasn't a coincidence. Even down to the motive. The only one really face losing anything is Miles because everyone else got what they have from him. Everything is thrown right in your face and then we peel back the layers of why. It's like the first film, they showed us what happened, but there was more to the story. So, I hope there's more of this series cuz it really is a fun ride even if you solved the mystery early.

The irony about Miles' disruption speech is exquisite. The climax plays out exactly like that speech. From the small thing, to the slightly bigger thing where others will want to join you, to the part where you push past and everyone around isn't onboard as you break what they don't want broken. Helen goes through every stage of that speech in the climax. She becomes the "Disruptor" that Miles so admires and pretends to be.

I love that Rian Johnson makes these whodunnits now with all the dramatic tension of a classic Agatha Christie-style one (looking for clues, being sus of everybody, will the detective find the killer, the satisfaction of seeing all these details fall into place) while consciously breaking all the story tropes. Like in Knives Out when 30mins in he tells you whodunnit, so it becomes a spy-thriller-like 'will she get found out' for the 2nd act, but then it turns out whoACTUALLYdoneit and how and why, and it's so satisfying. Or in this one, when the investigation of the ACTUAL murder starts before the movie begins, but we don't know that that's what Blanc and Andi/Helen are there for, but all the reasons we were sus of all the other people (they were signposting Miles' murder so incredibly hard that much like Miles' 'ideas' it'd be too dumb to follow through) still pay off for playing into a plot we didn't know was even happening at first. Also, yes Daniel Craig kills it so hard, and the dinner scene where he wants an ipad I guess and literally can't wait to solve this hacky-ass murder mystery game ruining the entire weekend in 3 seconds flat makes me laugh every single time.

There's so many clever things about this movie. From the way how each character wears their masks at the beginning shows their personality and how much they care for other people (and Birdie's covid party), the movie showing how rich people will accept that a random "oral medication" will somehow make them not catch covid and the only one who questions it is Blanc. Then the movie literally shows you Miles handing Duke the glass but then switches it after. Blanc saying he's horrible at stupid things and so he overthinks the stupid murder(s). Not to mention the last and most powerful scene, when Janelle Monae, covered in ash and soot, turns and looks at the camera posing as the Mona Lisa

6:52 fun fact, during the game awards last year, they briefly mentioned this show alongside among us, and I think the majority of us watching at the time were like, ".... why is James Bond talking about among us. 💀" Like, it didn't even register to me that they were explaining the show would have a reference to it, lol. So finally, seeing the reason for that collaboration is extra funny now. So while it's true that pop culture references ages a show, I feel like, in this instance, the reference is so obscure enough that it's funny.

Ok there needs to be a KZbin vid entitled: "Kate Hudson being her mother for 5 min straight". Goldie Hawn, her mom, is a legendary actress who was in a lot of comedy films and is known for her over exaggeration style and campy acting methods. Ms. Kate Hudson was serving hardcore. I was getting Overboard, Private Benjamin, and Protocol vibes.

Not sure if this was mentioned, but Derol was played by Noah Segan, who also played Trooper Wagner in Knives Out, and is a Rian Johnson regular. Another Rian Johnson regular is Joseph Gordin-Levitt, who did the hourly dong voice, and also had a small voice cameo as a tv detective in Knives Out. Also, the people in Blan'c game of Among Us consisted of legends in Angela Lansbury of Murder, She Wrote, Stephen Sondheim, along with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Natasha Lyonne.

Their departure scene is meant to showcase their true self in a subtle way: lionel wears the (assuming) the kf94, he's the scientist and he knows before it reconmmended. claire's mask doesn't fit properly and contstanly touches it, she's a politician and cares for the surface image, not necessarily the best way. Birdie's mask is mesh and she's a fashion designer and is shown to be intolerant, she doesn't care as long she's not affected. Duke is not wearing a mask, he's (seems to be) a right-wing youtuber, probably doesn't care. Detective Benoit's mask seems to be cordinated with his outfit and fits well, he has a eye for details. Helen's mask is Andi Another detail is the Andi, who spoke out against the danger of klear, was not believed and punished and Helen, her twin is the one who destroys Miles could be a parellel to Cassandra of Troy, a seer who is cursed that no one will believe her gift and her twin, Helenus who tin some accounts voluntarily told the way to destroy troy.

@@jacquesscholtz9603 As a pan bigender person I can confirm, it is not fetishizing at all. Those are kinds of jokes that are very common in queer and ally circles. It's not meant with any malice, or fetishization, at least from what I can see. The wrist movement is way more common now as a dogwhistle than just a stereotype. And the blowjob joke was just because she had already made the joke before with the other people, and was just surprised to see where it led, not knowing that Benoit would be the only one not reacting. I see your point and I appreciate it, but I don't think it applies in this case.
