This is my favourite KZbin subscription. At 68 I am having trouble getting serious about learning bluegrass but today’s lesson has again lit the fire. I will begin paying for these pleasures in the next few days, it seems like a bargain and also, the correct thing to do. Many thanks Brandon

Great lesson, explained very well! Very minor detail I just picked up from slowing down one of Docs videos is that he's picking the first 2 notes on the b string (4th and 5th fret up from capo) rather than doing hammer on. And I believe he starts this on a back stroke. Anyway thanks again, great lesson!

Hey, just want to say thank you for putting out these awesome videos. They are super helpful for learning interesting songs and keeping the learning process fun. Just a quick question, how important is it to follow this picking pattern. I deviate slightly just because it feels more natural to me, but I don't want to develop bad habits.

If you're a total beginner I'd recommend doing it as he teaches and suggests but it's not the end all beat all... I've been playing for years albeit blues and classic rock. I can't change the way I play..I don't even pay attention to the their picking directions..I do what feels natural to me and economical . When I practice scales I use the pick directions they recommend.. maybe eventually it'll transfer to my bluegrass playing...I can play the fast stuff fine so far with my method..

At 0:17 on Doc's recording it sounds like he is "chiming" the chord somehow. It sounds a bit like an autoharp. Was an autoharp overdubbed or did he somehow create that sound? If so, how!
@onyxclubboys47492 жыл бұрын
He's definitely channeling the autoharp (and maybe the lap dulcimer). Try picking very stiffly near the saddle.

I notice Doc did anchor when picking but also a lot of people say one shouldn't do that. I'm confused now!

I've been trying to pay for the tab on your website, but the payment isn't going through. I've tried with several different cards. Do you know if anyone else is experiencing problems with this?

Certainly not for beginners . I have been playing for 40 years , and this would present a challenge so, advanced , and I mean advanced players only .

Nah, intermediate players can do it

I'm 16 playing for a year and 4 months and I can get it up to 90 bpm. Still struggle with the cross picking a little, especially on the fast parts, but I think I'm doing pretty good.
