I have to point out one thing that I see a lot of none-Chinese players has mistaken. The story of the game seems to have happened way after the end of “Journey To The West”’s story, where the power of Buddha and the other gods are gone and the monsters and YaoGuais are taking over the world. The players are not playing as WuKong the monkey king, but as the “天命人”(I believe the English name is “destined one”) who is another monkey trying to bring order and justice back to the world by re-walking the path that WuKong has taken. There’s also another theory in China that’s pretty popular, which is the main character is a reflection of WuKong’s impetuous heart, because the in the novel, the author is also trying to compare the whole story to the process of the cultivation of one’s 内丹(NeiDan/internal alchemy, a Daoism term), and each of the five main protagonists are corresponding one of the five elements(sorry for explaining this so poorly it’s really complicated😂😂)

Journey to the West is a Chinese novel published in the 16th century during the Ming Dynasty. It is regarded as one of the greatest classic Chinese novels and has been described as arguably the most popular literary work in East Asia. Needless to say, I think you could have said "many centuries ago" as opposed to "many many many decades ago," which does make it sound old, just not old enough. Just my thoughts as a writer...

I’m a hardcore vet at this point but before my boyfriend helped me I couldn’t even beat dark souls 1 for years because I kept going to the graveyard to get that bell first not realizing i wasn’t supposed to and now I’ve beat 1 and 3 multiple times same for bloodborne and I’m almost done with lies of p stuck on laxsia mainly because of the second phase and it sucks because I was stuck on the black rabbit brotherhood second fight for months and i finally just ground till I was max strength and like 40 health and stamina and maxed out my bone cutting saw blade and I was finally able to finish them luckily for the last brother as long as I stayed behind some rocks and was quick enough i could hurt him but him not be able to hurt me but yeah I adore Lies of P it even overtook dark souls 1 as my favorite for 1 main reason: the characters so much depth and backstory even for random background characters and I’m man enough to admit every time I re fight the white lady I cry she was a truly worthy opponent and her final words pierce my heart every time “Same red attire as yours, sister…. As promised, we always match”

Actually, In Ghost of Tsushima, the way to change stances is to hold the back right trigger then choose the stance with one of the symbol buttons, not the d-pad.

From people that played the demo (from the first level), fighting optional boss (the werewolf) and get his ability will make fighting the level boss (the big wolf in the first trailer) much easier. In fact, when compare notes in the hotel after the demo, the people that thought the game is too difficult are the people that went straight for level boss after completing the story (understandable given the two hour limit), rather than search for extra people to pick fight with.

Step up is an untrue statement. With parry you take the risk of taking damage altogether. With dodges, if you whiff the perfect dodge, you still have the benefit of an enemy attack whiffing all together. The most engaging combat systems are always ones that reward you for high risk parries and still provide you with the options to dodge or space yourself to force whiffs

In fact, this game does have a parry system, which is demonstrated by the 17/06 combat video and the recent final trailer. The parry, however, looks more like "skills" and takes many different forms. There is literally a skill that wraps Wukong up with a light ball and kicks back the enemy attack, and also one type of staff stance allows for a quick parry. I think the combat of BMW differs from the souls-likes mostly because it tries as much as possible to encourage attack instead of too much defense, including powerful transformations, flexible parry, and short shifts between dodge and attacks.

Honestly a lot of this gameplay highly reflects Wo Long where being more aggressive builds up a bar that can be cashed out with a heavy attack, and dodging perfectly also adds to that meter and getting hit detracts from that meter. Also turning into some demon with a completely different moveset is something that Koei Techmo uses as well.

Journey to the west is one of the great 4 literature of China. Romance of the three kingdoms a lot of gamers know: ie dynasty warriors, rotk. The other 2 : Water Margin there was a japanese game in the 1990s that was based on it and the last is dream of Red Chamber. Would love to have games made base on the last 2 as well.

I very much agree about the parry topic, not that I don't like parrying but I personally find it more fun to nail dodge timings. I'm glad that it won't feel like it's designed all around parrying. I liked Stellar Blade a lot but it was so focused on blocking and parrying that the dodge felt pretty bad in that game.

Journey To The West is HUGE in Asia. Historical impact? Ummmmmm not so sure anymore, since there's an iteration of this story. Every. Year. There's no medium Wukong hasn't been on, no parody yet done. This's just the latest version, and like always, we gonna eat it all up =))) Wukong is famously known for his 72 miracles/spells. I do hope we actually get all 72 of them in this game. And beside his Staff, there's a few legendary weapons he got his hands on in the novel, I hope we get them, too.

However "Souls-like" this game turns out to be, I appreciate that it's one of the few in the genre I've seen where every boss fight doesn't seem, visually, like some kind of absurd, bullying mis-match. 15 hours is not short for an action-adventure game. I don't know why people feel the need for every game to seemingly last 85 hours with 200 hours of side missions. If a game is 8 hours long, but an absolute joy to play, then I don't see anything wrong with that. I would rather play a slightly shorter game that is more focused, than a 25+ hour game that just keeps you busy until the next set piece.

I beat both Sekiro and Bloodborne (not to brag, but the experience of playing them to completion is a factor here). This game is VERYYYY approachable. It's a challenge, for sure. But not at all like the punishing mechanics of the souls series. It's basically a tougher version of God of War. I highly recommend this game. It's got just the right amount of challenge. I'm very excited to see the games coming out of China. I'm so grateful and happy that they took so long to polish and perfect this game for my enjoyment!

This is a small studio. It’s wild how good this looks. The movement animations of everything look so good it almost feels like they went and found some giant mythological creature out in some misty Chinese forest in the real world and convinced it to come in to do mocap. I was very skeptical of the initial reveal trailers. It felt too good to be true. But they keep showing more and more, and it seems like it’s the real deal. It looks incredible, plays well, and runs well from all reports. The team used to be only 9 people.

Hey Falcon, about the Xbox port of the game, there was actually a playable demo back on August 2023 during the Hangzhou offline playtest, CC who visited there said there were PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X version available back then. (Speculation) People are speculating that the reason it is not on Xbox day one is the Series S not having enough RAM for it as it requires minimum 16GB of RAM for PC and the Series S only has like 10GB of RAM.

It makes sense that the game will be jam packed with bosses if the MC is actually retracing the steps of the OG Sun Wukong. The story for Journey to the West is typically split into 2 parts. The past BEFORE the Journey and the present when Tripitaka (Tang Sanzhang) the monk started his journey from the Tang Empire China to India to retrieve the true Western Buddhist Sutras for the Tang Empire. The past focuses on the backstories of the different party members chosen for the Journey, with the backstory of Sun Wukong being the most important, because him wrecking havoc in the Celestial Heavens have direct consequences later on in his Journey to the West. Some of the troubles they encounter in their Journey is Wukong having to clean up his own mess from 500 years ago. The party must overcome 108 calamities in their Journey, with some of the most powerful of them being Demons and Demi-Gods that Wukong had set loose during his rampage in Heaven 500 years ago. These Demons/Demi-Gods were actually the Divine Mounts/ Pets or even Servants to the Deities in Heaven. When Wukong rampaged in Heaven, many of them escaped to the Mortal World where they started to gather their own Demonic Forces to reign supreme and rule over certain areas. Might makes right for the Demons, and being of Divine or Demi-God origins, these escapees naturally become sharks among small fishes. Some even stole their Masters' Magical Treasures and Relics, making them difficult or impossible for Wukong to beat. For these situations, Wukong had to go to Heaven and ask for their Masters' help to personally come and subdue them. The new one that appeared in the latest trailer with a little monk eating watermelon is one such threat in the original novels.

I am lowkey kind of hoping it's not souls-like in combat. At least to the point in how punishing and frustrating that type of game can be. I wouldn't mind settings for difficulty. It allows skilled players loving frustration to crank it to super hard. And then people that are fresh to it to learn as they go and get better and hit a difficulty level that they can increase but not to the point of frustration. I personally love a bit of a challenge but it ends when it's just repetitive losing a long-ass battle and start over and over and over. That just makes me go "why"? I want to have fun and that just becomes frustrating to me. Now I get some want that. Which is why an optimal game that can appeal to both audiences would be good. This is why I love God of War game. Because it's fun, it has some challenge but never too much. It has some battles that are kind of optional that was a lot harder as in the Valkyries in the first game. The challenge levels etc.

If the speculated runtime is 15 hours, I'm guessing the game won't be that difficult. In souls games you could have 15 hours of dying to boss fights alone, not even mentioning the rest of the game.
