i should say that it is very likely the true story as far as the game is concerned because it is hinted in the end of the video that the old man may actually be son wukong in his golden years after he was betrayed by his own shadow & cast aside by buddha, he spent his final days in ling shan, but in depravity. while his honor & glory was stolen from him by his shadow. also he wasn't a bee in the beginning, one of his earliest transformations was a golden cicada, which is considered as a very auspicious sign of good luck. cicada's exist in real life but golden cicada's are considered as myth since none have ever been discovered and recorded for study. as far as the journey to the west is concerned, it is believed that the monk tang sanzang was the reincarnation of a divine diety originally known as the golden cicada, but how son wukong gained this form is unclear.

This game is based on the Journey to the west, the character here is Wu Kong aka The Monkey king. he's a known shapeshifter and we see those abilities in here on full display also Journey to the West inspired Akira Toriyama to create Dragon ball and it's lore, Goku is based on Wu Kong himself, the flying cloud and using a staff to battle, Goku got it from Wu Kong.

Just think... almost every anime used elements from this traditional tale. So all of the things in this trailer that you guys recognized from animes were appropriated by Japanese anime companies from Chinese traditional tales. I'm not hating on the Japanese companies. Just glad that a Chinese developer is making a game based on the mythology.

Noooot exactly? Around the Tang and Sui Dynasties there was a massive Chinese Influence into Japan's Cultural Landscape, around the time Buddhism was also introduced in Japan. We talking about Chinese methods of Government, Mythologies, Writing Systems, Philosophies (Taoism especially, as it gave rise to Onmyodo), and so on. Afterwards, those Chinese Influences were naturalized and eventually became Japanese, we see this in the Boddhisatva especially, where they have Sanskrit, Chinese, Korean, and Japanese Names, such as Guan Yin (who became Kannon in Japan), and Sun Wukong (who became Son Goku). The entire process is similar to how the Roman Empire naturalized other mythologies into its own as it grew and gave them a Roman twist, starting with the Greek Pantheon. Seriously, the Roman Counterparts to certain gods had their own unique mythology and a certain divine figure being equated to them only added to that mythology. Basically, there's no appropriation going on IF the Anime in question is solely based on Japanese Mythology (especially since Japan has indigenous religions Shinto and the Ainu Beliefs, along with a Buddhist Sect that's specifically Japanese (Zen)) and Cultural Practices.

I say that considering that the developer went on record even critiquing things that we wouldn't actually notice first time around, from the water interactions to the frame rate drop when Wukong with battling in the heavens. Also I'm so gassed for this since GOH is literally telling the tale that most people think dragon ball should have told in the first place

Apparently this is a like a classic tale within the Chinese culture. I saw a comment on KZbin from someone who’s Chinese that said he were told this story as a child. So it’s pretty cool they brought this story to life to the video game side.

To answer your question and anyone else wondering, from what I can recall, he's not taking or putting the weapons in his ear, from what I think the original tale tells, Wukong used strands of his hair to use his magic, so if you watch, his staff appears when he plucks a hair from his head, same with when he summoned his clones, he plucked a hair from his head and then used it to cast his magic. I may not fully remember this exactly, but I'm sure this is what it is. :)

The staff can change its size, he usually shrinks it down and puts it in his ear/hair (can't quite remember which) for convenience. Also, it weighs a fuck load of ton.

@@GorehamM20 Sonata is right. Wukong's staff can change sizes from super big to as small as a needle. When it's as small as a needle, he stores it in his ear (which is his favorite storage place). The plucking of hair is only for his clone magic. Each strand of his hair, depending on length and thickness, can turn into a clone of Wukong. The denser the hair, the more similar the clone is to Wukong (in terms of appearance, abilities, even memories sometimes).

So my thoughts on this trailer is what the narrator said "wukong was dead during the journey to the west" now based on that, in the novel theres an important chapter called Real and fake. wukong and the imposter wukong (6th eared macaque) fought, but couldnt best each other so they went to buddha, where he reveals who the fake is and weakens him for the the real wukong to kills him, could that mean in this game, buddha mistakenly chose the real wukong and the imposter kills him? buddha realising his mistake sends the real wu (the golden staff) to stop the fake (us) Or.. the imposter replaces wukong at some point in the story and gains buddahood (becomes the wukong with the gold armor) and we play as the original getting revenge

I was so impressed with this when I first seen it, last month. Still am, but we have to wait another year and there's no guarantee it will get a western release. Monkey King, the great sage equal to heaven! Would you believe the developer apologized for the state of this?!

Actually he show this trailer to get recruit more people to the join team as he got only 30 people. It have been 2 years + of works. According to CEO of Game Science, They plan to release the game in 2-3 years time with an English version Sub or dubbed. They apologize because of the overwhelming responses from the people all over the world esp in china as there are still issues with the game. They were ex-members of Tencent who quit the company because they are disgusted by the company who only care for money instead of Quality and remind fans to let them know if they are divert from this objective in social media in the future when they are successful. The CEO also say they won't accept working with Big Companies as it will be an obstacle in terms of the game development. The is what was reported in an interview with the CEO of Game Science in the Chinese Social media.

If you read the story of sun wukong, theres a part in the book where the dude fight 100 thousand heavenly warriors. I think the scene at the end of the trailer is the same scene from the books where you'll get to play as wukong against the 100 thousand warriors.

Virtually every ability we see Monkey use in this trailer is in the original 400 year old novel. We've got the staff extending, we've got animal transformations, we've got cloud chariots. We've even got the crippling migraine monkey gets when he's misbehaving (although we don't see Tripitaka reciting the headache mantra). We see Monkey fighting against the entire Jade Army (happens near the beginning of the novel). Interestingly the Bodhisattva Quan Yin seems to be depicted as another more enlightened version of Monkey. Like a future version of him looking down and saying "this is not the path for you to take little one."

Fun Fact this Game or demo took 6 months to make they been working on this game for 2yrs its a very small brand new company in China they have 3 Black Myth games planned Wukong being the 1st of 3 stories they want to tell, also they only released this to draw attention to other developers as they need help making the game and they are hiring, trailer went viral they only needed another 15 people and they have received 10,000 resumes apart from people who have actually showed up in person asking for a job, literally 30 people team working on this game, they have even came out apologizing saying that their was lots of flaws in that 13 min gameplay trailer and they wished they couldve put something out better, and stated that what you see is nothing that the game will look, play and feel 5x better than what we all saw and that is why they are looking to hire more people and ad them to the team so they can finish the game and release it, it will be coming out on consoles but they have not said specifically said which one or if it will be exclusive or multi console release.
