It does have a decent amount of attention but most people just don't know it. Japanese Mangeka have created some of the best hero's journey narratives of all time that are directly inspired by JTTW. Dragon Ball and One Piece are two of the biggest. Almost every single successful Shonen uses the same formula that is found in JTTW. It is still disappointing knowing that millions upon millions of people in the West love JTTW but don't even know the source material.

To be fair, it's not like specifically that Chinese mythology isn't that popular in the West. It's just that only Greek mythology is mainly popular, with Norse mythology beginning to rise.

fun detailed, in black myth, For yall english speakere, in the fight between wukong and the three eyed mf, wukong calls himself "uncle wu" And also refers to him as "little yang" This stems from the lore where yang jian is the three eye'd dude's born name, before he was investitured to become a god, and him being called wukong's nephew, is actually lore accurate, cuz his three younger brothers, greet wu kong as a elder (when that happens in the literature) so basically wukong is mocking him extra hard, by telling him he knows his background,
Honestly, I'm more impressed by the size of his fan in the corner of the room than Sun Wukong's abilities.

Interesting video, I hope you keep continuing this for each chapter in Black Myth Wukong. I watch multiple adaptation of journey of the west, but it was a long time ago during childhood, so a bit of refresher can help especially from someone who from where the lore originates because there is a lot of hidden nuances that probably people outside culture didn't know. I think you don't have to worry about spoiler. There is a market for in depth explanation of game lore for people that already finished the game. And treating viewer as they know nothing about the story also better in my opinion. Because there is a lot of creative adaptation of journey of the west that probably didn't contain element from the story or even add new element that not found in the story.

Erlang Shen and his third eye-d depiction is inspired from the Sogdian deity Weshparkar who is the Sogdian counterpart of the Indo-Iranian and Vedic wind god Vayu and Rudra who later became associated with the current Shiva. The four heavenly kings are the Chaturmaharajas . They are Vaishravana (Hindu god of wealth Kuber, i,e, the son of sage Vishrav and the brother of Ravana), Dhritarashtra (not to be confused with Dhritarashtra of Mahabharat), Viruddhaka (a form of Shiva) and Virupaksha (another form of Shiva). The name Virupaksha literally means deformed eye/third eye which Shiva has. Just wanted to share these with you as well as as someone who has studied Hindu and Buddhist mythology along with many central asian cultures.
