Black Myth: Wukong is what you get without Western influence, an anti-political, anti-woke, anti-virtual signalling masterpiece and the world is better off for it. Gamers play games to escape reality, not to have it constantly shoved back into their face.

But from how I understand, the back story of JTTW and its cultural resonance with Chinese and even many east Asian gamers are a far more important factor here. The novel and its characters, esp. Wukong is so deeply rooted in the culture, generations after generations for hundreds of years. It's the first 3A game adaptation of one of the most prominant cultural icons (dated much further back than the PRC as a nation).

It has nothing to do with wokism... they are just using it as part of an excuse/make up reason to smear the game. Behind it was (& still so) a "well planned" anti-China campaign to smear this game hoping it can to stop its success. Many of the so-called game reviews were written (or directed) by PR firms such as the one from ScreenRant which was written by a PR intern based in the UK. They also have been caught trying to recruit top Chinese streamers in smearing this game also. Anti-China propaganda, narratives, talking points have been part of American foreign policies for decades if you don't count the two centuries before WW2. US literally have several Bills (one for USD$300 millions/per year and another USD$500 millions per year) passed after 2020 for expanding their anti-China propaganda with additional budget. Some of these extra budget was to fund or train "journalists" on anti-China talking points and such in the alternative media and social media space. Many smear campaigns we've seen these few years were the results from these additional budgets. And in this month, there will be around 25 anti-China bills waiting for the US Congress to be passed. Bottomline of the official narratives from the US led West are "China is evil" and we as people in the West and around the world, shall not think China in any positive light in everything (and even in gaming in this case) and dehumanizing its image in anyway possible. Such tactics have been applied to many countries that US didn't like and trying to go to war with, but in the case of China, it is the most severe and long lasting.

This game does have a parry, it's called "seeing through" your opponents attack. In order to do it, you need to be engaged in a light attack combo and hit your heavy attack at the same time the enemy attacks you (you don't actually need to be in a light attack "combo", all you need is 1 light swing and then you can see through with your heavy attack). You will phase through their attack and punish them with an extra damage heavy hit. You do need at least 1 focus point built up in order to "see through", so just keep that in mind before attempting it. Once you begin to master this skill, it becomes a different game and you truly become a monkey god.

I hope PlayStation gets the message here. This is now one of the most successful games in history while Concord crashed and burned upon release, shortly thereafter Space Marine 2 and Astrobot both are reviewing very well and are all likely to be GOTY contenders. No politics, just the goal of devs making their game as good as they can to create a memorable and unforgettable experience. The budget is misleading though. At that time... and still actually, I think most western and even most Japanese devs have gotten kinda stuck on graphics. Their pushing more and more polys, but ignore many of the aspects that make games actually look great. Heck, Wukong has a crapload of awfully textured rocks and objects. But the devs handled it smart. They're mainly restricted to far away areas, areas that players don't hang around in and areas that they'd just pass by quickly. And from a distance they look amazing and just as good as anything else. Meanwhile, their actual hard work goes into important things. Like hair and clothes. The shiny traditional silk-looking Chinese clothes look mindblowingly good in chapter 4, for example. Even if they gave the rest of the room N64 graphics (they didn't, just an 'if they did'), the clothes looking so damn good would make up for all of that. To make a good graphical impact, it's better to just make 1 thing stand out incredibly well instead of making everything look good, while having nothing stand out. The latter approach is costly and has actually less impact on the experience.

This novel has been in the Chinese/Asian geekdom for nearly 500 years with all kinds of conspiracy theories and geek expanse way way more than any Star Wars or LOTR. This game touches on some of the old conspiracies behind the surface story. You may or may not get it even if you get to the end, especially if you are unfamiliar with the novel, poems, and even Buddhist references (especially in the cut scenes and some of the hints in the write up of characters), but there is a hidden overarching story. Believe me, it is way more complicated than you can imagine.

It's a combo based system where your combos are either interrupted, ignored, or dropped entirely due to absurd hit boxes (target locking locks character but only registers on hit on big toe). Boss battles are frustrating at best, given the aforementioned issues, and the game is simply boss-after-boss fights. Add to which, most end game boss battles are at least 15 minutes long win or lose - opening fight cut scene, 1st phase battle, mid-fight cutscene, 2nd phase fight, closing fight cut scene. It's a cool game, but the real pain points are in playing it.

I'm missing Erlang only, trying to check all the boxes I still can (some stuff is missable and will have to wait until ng+). Currently lvl 139, LOL Yeah. I know. I'm bad. But hey, I'm having a blast! What a game :p

There was footage in the original announcement trailer for Wukong that wasnt in the game. So of it shows things have obviously been changed for the release version of the game. Like bosses moving locations and that muso-dynasty warriors combat was taken out. But i wonder if anything im that original release trailer might hint at what will be in the DLC. Im very excited. Im almost done with chapter 4 on NG+. This will be the first NG+ i have ever completed. And Im a Souls fan. Lol

No boobs at all in the game. That's totally against the modern game industries.

Imagine game science making an open world game with this graphics and engine.. holy shit!! I think it could outdo itself.

8:00 you can parry with the smash stance. Most people dont know this because the English translation misses to mention details.

I'll soon beat ng+, aiming for all trophies. I disagree about the replayability, ng+ is just for trophy seeker/completionists. The progress and enemies are the same. Still, it is a cool game! (To keep it short)

For whoever has finished the game look for the ending explanation video you might be surprised how much you missed the story. I can recommend MadLuigi or Stories with Cookie ending explained video. Spoiler warning! Erlang has been on our side this whole time.

@AvenueX is the best one, she is very articulate in explaining the cultural aspects of the game in great depth like no others. Then if you want to see blindfolded challenges on one of the toughest boss of the game, Erlang, I would suggest you search for @FreeDigitalTV

Beat the game at level 95, had to farm till I was 110 for achievements

So I love the game, I'm one stupid farming achievement away from 100%. I think that the response to it has literally been that the West cannot stop themselves from guzzling down 'China bad' narratives at literally any opportunity. This video provides some shit explanation of the controversy, though. The issue is not the edgy jokes, which were clearly edgy jokes made by the game creator. The issue was more about an unhinged incel-sounding rant that one of the lead devs went on where he said he didn't make games for women, because women want microtransactions, etc. and he wouldn't 'feminize' himself by making games for women. He placed basically all the corporate fueled bullshit in gaming on women instead of on capitalism. Adjacent to his point, I think he is almost correct. It is difficult for a man to make games for women as they do not have the same lived experience... That said, he goes off the rails into what is actually misogyny. Dismissing this very real tirade is literally just trying to sell a narrative... Just the same as when American media lies about Chinese atrocities they've invented to bait clicks and sell newspapers.

It's a great game, but the main reason for the game's explosion of popularity is due to the sheer numbers of the Chinese player base. They pushed it way over the edge.

It def proves other new games wrong... that budget is so surprising because concord has $100 million and it still flopped in less than 2 weeks

One sad thing tho is that the director for devil may cry left capcom so there probly won’t be any new dmc games, at Least good ones. 5 got action game of the year in 2019 and vergil became my new all time favourite character
