This is ancient Chinese mythology but also based on Chinese Zen/Tao/Philosophy. To appreciate the deeper meanings hidden behind all those details in the game, one could check out the Chinese novel “A journey to the west” or the Chinese Zen Book “How to be Happy: the Wisdom to Attain Happiness and Success by Constructing an Invincible Mind”.

There are many details about this boss that surprised us, such as his use of an axe to attack (in mythology, he used an axe to split open a mountain and rescue his mother who was trapped underneath), and when his weapon broke down in the next stage, he took out a fiery lotus flower, which was his nephew's weapon (the Lotus Lantern) These details are not mentioned in the game plot

most chinese people are atheists and view buddhism as more philosophy than religion. Real buddhist monks wouldnt care if the Four Heavenly Kings got beat up, they are essentially just glorified security guards.

The four kings were actually characters from another famous chinese novel. They were generals from the not so good side.. And they are four brothers that carry magical items .. They were defeated and later at the end of the story the main gods decided to appoint them as generals.. These four characters are seen in Buddhist and Taoist temples around the world As the guardians..

The destined one is wukong reincarnated self is more poweful than his original form and his titanic form is the most powerful form to go up against the god themsleve just like he did with the four heavenly kings and go toe to toe with the jade emperor himself and nezha in the upcoming dlcs.
