I first got to know Sun Wukong through League of Legends, where he quickly became my favorite champion to play. Now, the fact that I can experience an independent game where he takes center stage as the main character feels like a dream come true. It's as if my favorite hero from the battlefield has finally stepped into his own epic journey.

context to 0:59 during the journey to the west Bijae, wukong, the monk, and Wujing came across the White Bone Demon who disguised herself as a helpless woman. Wukong has the powers to tell who is really is a demon and who is not. The other members of his party does not have the same ability. When Wukong started acting hostile towards the lady she pretended to act scared and manipulated everyone else to her side. Eventually Wukong hits her and "kills" her angering the monk and Bijae who kicks him out of the party. After Wukong leaves the party the Demon shows her true form and kidnaps the monk. Wujing kinda mad at Bijae makes Bijae go to wukong's mountain to get him back so they can save the monk. The scene is when Bijae goes to the mountain to go get wukong back

more context: It’s known as 三打白骨精 - Three Hit White Bone Demon, because the Demon kept turning into people of a fictional family. (Wukong killed the Woman, then next it turned into an Old Lady looking for her daughter. Then an Old Man looking for his wife and daughter - Wukong had to get the 土地爷 and other nature gods to be witness so he could kill her properly) Bajie, of course, kept mouthing off about how Wukong must’ve killed the family to hide his guilt, causing Tangseng to banish Wukong from the party. Wukong, pleading innocence, wound up going to Guanyin’s place. Meanwhile, some other monkey disguised as him came to beat up Tangseng and stole the stuff to bring back to Mount Huaguo. Bajie goes to get the stuff back but gets beaten. Rest of the story is that Wujing goes to find Guanyin, only to find the real Wukong, and they go back. The two Wukongs fight, and eventually they have to drag them to the Heavenly Court where only Buddha could tell who’s the obvious fake. Then Wukong beats the fake (Six Earred Macaque) to death.

Man, I don't want to sound disrespectful or hurt anyone's beliefs/culture, but after reading the Novel, I just hated Tripataka to my guts. Like he always gets kidnapped or gets in trouble, and then cries for the Great Sage's help. I know that they had to pass 81 tests, but still. And then he has the audacity to yell at Wukong after being saved by him countless times

@@lonewolf_0707 He’s basically the personification of ‘lawful good’ if we’re going by DnD type alignments. He sees things the way human laws would, and unfortunately, the yaoguai and the mythical world does not align with it. I think the reason why I never really saw it that way was because, it wasn’t as if Wukong and the others were always right, nor that Tangseng was always wrong. At places like the Land of Women, or the Bottomless Hole, Tangseng’s just another traveler who got screwed by the circumstances (he drank Baby Creation Water / got kidnapped by the scorpion lady to be her husband). Other problem with being the reincarnation of Buddha’s great disciple is that, monsters want to eat him for eternal life and eternal youth. That’s straight up something he can’t really control. The monsters know he’s food, so they’ll lay traps for kindhearted people to fall into, which he inevitably does - his teachings are to treat others with kindness after all. Plus, it always gave an excuse for Wukong to start trying to kill whichever monster of the week it was 😊

The red boy in the tv sr dont transform into anything else he just act as a helpess biy who was hanging by yaoguai in the middle of the forest to trick the master wukong belike : dude a boy in the middle of a yaoguai forest and still alive , think about it but then the master ( in the tv series ) is still try to help the red boy :)) and then 1 of the most tragic danger wukong have ever met

The 1986 tv show was supposed to be a heavily leaned toward kid show. So they had to make yaoguais less scary and look more human-like.

​@@lanh.7573It was actually due to the incredibly low budget that was given to production team hence they need to use all human actor and some of the same actors have to play multiple role of yaoguai as well. The budget is so low that they shoot the entire drama on just one single camera and it took them 7 years to finally finished shooting just part 1 of the drama. The main actors of the drama also revealed that they only get paid 66 yuan monthly which is equivalent to just 10usd on top of unsafe working environment "heat stroke, no stunt double, no insurance"

@@joesama3282 I did hear of actors got tasked with many roles. Still a good show if you grew up with it, me too. It's just the vfx was pretty lame compared to it in the 80s Hollywood, that's why Westerners don't bother to watch it for fact buffs, which is a missed opportunity. But even if they went accurate, the show would probably get banned.

Westerner from what I see is that they only consume pop culture something trendy like anime or kpop for example, other than that they would not bother with Asian culture especially Chinese culture due to their political and cultural bias from the media. Even those western expats in Asian countries do not bother to learn the culture and barely speak the local language

the classic 1986 version is more canonically close to the original novel, but hongkong TVB version had made many great adaptations for modern audience For me personally, I would prefer the TVB version of JTTW, stories and acting are much more comical and coherent

I watched 2011 version of Journey To The West series and it's great while hilarious at the same time, Wu Yue's (from Paradox and Ip Man 4) portrayal as the mighty Sun Wukong is perfect and it's really recommended for fresh viewers. I remembered the part where Wukong had to change Bajie's appearance from hairy to natural in order to avoid scaring the villagers lol, and also the lady to he wants to marry while his womanizer characteristics didn't change lmao. 😂🙌

I was still a young boy when JTTW 1986 aired in my country. I didn't like it much because of the make-ups. They scared me, especially Zhu Bajie. 😅 The 1996 TVB version is what I'm more familiar with. I'm older when it aired and it has many familiar faces I know from watching HK movies prior to that.

its like in real life, everybody tell stories based on their perspective, and if the truth is inconvenient to them they made up a good "interpretation" of their stories. the journey to the west is a journey to test all the celestial's executives and yaoguai's integrity along the trip. the 80th obstacle was literally about a corrupted monk giving them fake scriptures because wukong's master didnt bring him gifts.

You should of used the original Chinese audio for the game. So viewers would realize they went thru the effort of finding voice actors to sound close to the 1980s tv series. This is a huge nostalgia point totally missed by a terrible dub and translation.

I mean saying it failed is kinda harsh, but I agree that 1986 is THE classic version that's the most faithful and lore accurate to the novel. There are a few decent adaptations in the 90s but everything after that is definitely messy in terms of just plot alone.

technology wise for sure! but in terms of being a faithful book to screen adaptation it doesn't entirely hit the mark. the plot and acting in TVB did take me out at some parts of the series so each to their own. if both series had the same technology and budget, 1986 would be the better version. both are fun to watch though!
