My father Tomas Puig Garcia was also a Cuban working for the CIA... but he was doing it inside the monster, inside Cuba itself from 1959 to 1965... He was one of the CIA agents who sounded the alarm, and monitored the Soviet nuclear missiles coming into the island in 1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He spied for many years giving the United States crucial intelligence about what the Soviets and Cubans were doing during those early years of the Cold War. Later in 1965, he and four other members of his CIA spy cell would be double crossed by his point of contact on the island, the Italian ambassador to Cuba, apprehended by the Cuban Intelligence services (the G2), and serve 12 years in prison, from 1965 to 1978, out of a sentence of 21 years in case number 161 of 1965 of the Cabaña Tribunal. He was beaten and tortured on a daily basis. In 1978 he was paroled after US President Carter made a deal with castro, and two years later my entire family and I escaped Cuba in 1980 during the Mariel Boatlift. My father died in 2012 at age 85 in West New York, NJ. Many stories of great men who put their lives at risk in the shadows of history, and who did amazing things in defense of Freedom and Liberty throughout history... my father was one of them. Miss you dad. His story is in my book "Born Again, from communism to American Submariner" at Amazon Kindle, Paperback, and Audible, narrated by the great voice of Harry Minot from WPKN Bridgeport CT.

As a Nicaraguan I salute this man. My family had many contra members. Man like him trained many of my uncles & other relatives to fight against communism. we hated the Sandinistas back then and we still do to this day something that has drawn 90% of my family out of Nicaragua seeking asylum from Costa Rica to Spain & the US. One day our Nicaragua will be free of communism and socialist ideologies with true democracy & only the blue & white flag proudly swaying across the sky not that nasty red & black communist flag. FREEDOM for 🇳🇮🇨🇺

Nicaragua is not Cuba. The Contras never had popular support in Nicaragua. I'm a writer & was fact finding in Nicaragua during part of the "Contra War." I interviewed many of the campesinos that were attacked by the Contras. These farmers at the time were (still are) religious (Catholic & Christian), hardworking in their coffee & tobacco fields & supported the Sandinistas. The bad guys who committed many atrocities, injured innocent people & stole from them were the Contras. This CIA "warrior" was on the wrong side of this conflict & supported many evil deeds.

( 2:50 ) just fyi : the money that bought weapons for the Contras, in circumvention of Congress's orders as part of the "Iran - Contra Affair" came from selling missiles to Iran (also against sanctions authorized against Iran). Those missiles and F 14 parts were sold to Iran as "payback" for Iran holding Americans hostage longer, so Reagan could "win" the 1980 election. ( 4:08 ) The Reagan administration's "anti communist insurgency" plan in Peru also entailed overthrowing the elected government, in favor of dictator Pinochet.
