Ive used the EJDE89 for 7 years but I gotta say the 34G left my face feeling better and more efficient shave. I think of Goldeneye when I see Monte Carlo so I gotta play Baccarat next time I go to Atlantic City. I watched You Only Live Twice today and I liked it. On another note, I too have the tendency to grind my teeth at night and my orthodontist notices it with the way my teeth are.

I've already seen a review on soap from this manufacturer's filmed by blogger from Russia. Before, I also scraped the skin a little in one area, with a razor. But then I realized that there the stubble grows curling. And began to shave this area not from top to bottom, but from bottom to top. Also may use diagonal or circular moves with a razor. Great shave Ken. I used to grind my teeth the end of each month when I had to close the books for month end. All numbers had to “ box check” . My wife would tell me you were grinding your teeth again. I no longer do that type of work. Have a great week Ken!🙃. (VLS)

Enjoying the video. Heard the bit about the vents not being cleaned in 20 years. The reason for the coughing is more likely due to the rapid change in humidity from using the furnace. Gets me, every year. A quick way to tell if your vents are dirty? Clean your shopvac, then pop a grill and vacuum it out, gently inserting the flexible hose into the duct (be really gentle so you don't cause the duct to disconnect). Re-check your shopvac. You'll probably be Googling air duct cleaning companies really quick. Especially with the dog.

Just taken delivery of a 34G and I have to say I’m a total convert. I’ve been using an Edwin Jagger for the last year, which is very good, but I noticed a difference. Coincidentally I have a Voskhod blade in it which is new for me! 👍🏼

I recommend the moulded bespoke mouth guard from a good dentist dentist. Takes about 3-4 weeks once the mould is made and around £500-600 but well worth it as lasts years if you look after it.

Hey Ken! New subscriber and loving the videos! I got a question. I'm not new to wet shaving but I am new to DE razors since I've been using cartridge razors and have been considering giving DE a try. Im curious what's doing the work, the razor handle or the blade? Because I know you can swap out the blades with different brands/styles but when ever I hear you say it's a good shave you mention the razor but not so much the blade (like the muhle) or if its a bad shave. In other words couldnt I just put a good blade in a cheap razor handle and get as good/the same shave as a really expensive handle? Love to hear back. Sometimes but the really cheap de razors seem to wear out quicker, while a $25 Merkur 34 a or DE89 seems to last longer and keep their tolerances

Try starting out with a mild razor. If you have a store near you, try out the Van Der Hagen razor. If that is not your razor, try out the Merkur 34C or the Edwin Jagger DE89. Those razors are best at starting out

No argument on the Merkur and EJ. The vintage Gillette Super Speed and Gillette Tech are also both mild razors which are still plentiful, cheap and deliver a fantastic shave.

Mystery Parker DE if your looking for a slightly longer razor with a neat style, or go to a pawn shop and you might find some cheaper vintage razors.I started with a vintage gillete butterfly myself. I'm glad I had it because it took me a month to find a razor I liked.

This is very subjective, and depends on several things: - how coarse is your whiskers? - - blonde to brown, being thinner and lighter - - brunette to black, being thinker and heavier - what blade are you using? - - cheap, and out of the wrapper dull - - Feather, that are among the sharpest available; and stay sharper longer - closed comb or open - straight or slant - adjustable or fixed I almost exclusively use Feather blades because I have pitch black, coarse as nails whiskers. - In my slant, I can go a good six to eight shaves before changing, three passes on entire face (minus goatee, and once a week, I shave my scalp in one direction [I use a Head Blade cartridge for against the grain on my scalp]) - In my straight bar, closed comb, fixed gap; I get one or two less - In my straight bar, closed comb, adjustable; I easily get the same as my slant So, to me, there are many variables involved. I’ve heard Ken and other KZbin shavers speak of tossing a blade after one use because they are so cheap compared to cartridge type. They’re not wrong, but this seems like a waste and more blades to the landfill for no good reason.

I only asked because I found it weird that I’ve been shaving a small area and seem to only be able to get 1 shave per blade. Currently using the Derby Premium blades, so I might just try out a couple other blades to see if anything else would suit me better

@@jackenever2979 I bought a variety pack from Amazon that came with Derby, Persona, Voskhod, Gillette, etc... I used one Derby Extra, and not impressed. There is another Derby that is platinum coated, and not the worst shave, but still not long lasting. Astra Superior Stainless was so bad, after the first shave, I bent the rest of the pack in half so I couldn’t use another. I had to go without shaving for a week to let my face recover. Of those I tried, my suggestion would be in order: Feather (the best blade ever produced) Wilkerson Sword Voskhod After these three, it’s a Craps Shoot, where the house is using loaded dice and you’re guaranteed to lose. As always, this is subjective, a matter of opinion, and as Ken stated in the above reply, it’s trial and error. And part of this issue you’ve experienced could be the razor, not the blade. You don’t need a hundred dollar razor, but you need a quality one. If you watch enough KZbin shavers, you’ll find that a good $30-$80 dollar razor is better than the $150-$400. My wife bought me a Viking Emperor Augustus adjustable at around $60 on Amazon, and it is a great shaver. It is also what I try the other blades in to get a better feel for how they perform. I like it because it is heavy, and I can just lay it on my face with a Feather blade and let gravity do most of the work. If your razor shows good alignment, and feels good in your hand, I’d try a different blade. And, I’d recommend looking on Amazon for the variety pack I bought. 16 different types, some from the same manufacturer but different composition or coatings. Some I’ve never seen local, and I didn’t want to buy bulk of a blade I hadn’t tried. I was looking for an alternative to Feather because I was watching KZbin shavers talking about other blades and wanted to try some of them. I may sound like a “Feather Fanboy” but with my tough beard, they are the best for me. And I’ve said before, we’re shaving; which means cutting stubble. I can do that with a butter knife (Astra mentioned above) or I can be efficient and use the best thing available.
