Yes, we lost Chadwick, but so much more has been lost to us-- friends/family/jobs/a feeling of assurance we'd taken for granted before March 2020. My friend lost both of his parents in the span of 2 months, and he and I, as well as a few other strangers in the movie theater, agreed that we appreciated the movie for how masterfully it took us through the stages of grief, acceptance and hope. Ramonda's death felt a little out of place in this movie, and definitely was a holdover from the earlier draft where Chadwick was still going to be the protagonist - it was a repeat of the earlier grieving that she'd already gone through in the first scene of the movie, and didn't actually propel her character thematically like the movie was trying to say it had. It led to the third act - which completely rests around Shuri choosing not to become driven by anger, and using her power as Wakanda's protector to hurt Namor (and start a war that would decimate Wakanda) - feeling almost completely detached from the rest of the movie (or at least the second act). But Shuri takes the herb and can magically fight.

The herb has healing properties. It implied he got sick with something and the herb may have helped. The herb isn't in his system but had changed his system in a reversible way. You can go through Chemo and it changes your system by killing everything but killing the cancer more but you may need it again later. She's part of the upper echelon on Wakanda society, she probably had to combat train just like her brother. She was in fights in the first movie and in avengers. Just more gun centric. She also didn't outfight Namor. She didn't keep her guard up and got smacked in the face a lot. He had the upper hand in the fight, her scheme there was to keep him distracted while he dried out. She lost the fight but won from being clever and determined enough to fight through a gut wound.

Another awesome review! I agree completely with the Okoye and Ironheart arguments, these charcters are great, but their role just wasn't really there. But honestly, I was kinda wishing that Nakia will become the Black Panther. It would make more sense with her being a spy and a warrior with Wakanda roots that she grew apart from. Shuri always felt like the scientist in the chair and I believe you could do the whole grief story without her taking on the suit in the end.

I agree… as a “phase” there is no overarching theme, story line, or focus. Not that every movie needs to be part of a bigger whole but then why does each movie in this phase do so much set-up for movies that seemingly don’t connect with each other?
@the7percentsolution2 жыл бұрын
For the most part I've seen Phase 4 as being the "Iron Man 2" of phases where it's not really doing anything new, kind of repeating some beats that we've seen before, and mostly being used as a means to introduce new characters. I don't necessarily see this as the MCU slipping in quality (although Eternals was pretty boring) but more like a stepping stone to something greater. Maybe over time we'll look back at Phase 4 and not be too harsh on it.

I think I already said this in the comments of your last video, but I really do feel like Riri's character was in fact necessary to the story being told, and that's coming from someone that didn't agree with the idea when it was first announced. I really feel like you need that face to the people you're protecting when you're doing a superhero movie. Because of course the audience is going to inherently going to agree with the idea that it's bad to want to burn the surface world and all the people in it. But you don't really feel it the way you feel for your protagonist wanting to protect a girl she sees a lot of herself in. Riri and Shuri are a lot alike and I think the fact that the crux of the middle act of this movie is Shuri wanting to protect her makes total sense. But that's in concept. In execution I don't necessarily feel like they built _that_ strong of a connection between the two but I can understand the idea behind it. She's a McGuffin with agency basically. Ross felt tacked on tho that much is true. I feel like they felt like they needed to give him a bit of a plotline because he's a supporting character in the Black Panther comics and a major supporting character in the previous movie, and it was rooted in _that_ first and foremost (and presumably it was just because the opening was there that they decided to make it a Thunderbolts tie-in) but it really wasn't necessary and made the movie more stuffed than it needed to be. I didn't initially understand what you meant about M'Baku in the first video but I can agree with you after the explanation. To me it felt pretty straight forward. M'Baku explicitly tells Shuri that T'Challa had requested for him to take care of and provide council to Shuri. I saw that final scene as him being her stand in for the challenge because, lets face it, without the heart-shaped herb nor her weapons, Shuri isn't a warrior. So M'Baku is there to fight in her stead. But that's just my interpretation that goes along with what had been established early on in the movie, but I agree with you that they could've been more clear about what the status quo was there. Because they explicitly refer to Shuri as princess still in spite of the fact that she's the last surviving member of the royal family. So is she not taking the throne? Who knows. You're right, it is kinda weird but what isn't ambiguous to me is the fact that they make it clear that M'Baku's intentions from here on out is to be a guide and right hand to Shuri.

I actually liked Riri's Iron-Heart suit, it was a bit 90s (looked like an adult sized Medabot in case anyone catches the reference) because it makes it look like it is made for her tastes instead of being so similar to Tony's suits that it feels like an Iron-Man jr. instead of her being her own person. I agree with you on that Ross could have been cut out to make a tigher story but I do see some importance to Riri's character in the sense *she* is likely to be in danger a lot in the future; we've seen before that organizations like Shield do not trust geniuses as far as they can throw them.

BPWF did that in the first 2 days with 2 days to go. It’s on track for 185 which is higher than most. bP1 was 200 and it will be 20 off from that. Which means success. You judge a movie on how much it makes. Also, the race of the character is the first in a while and they are raising hell. Dr. Strange is an Illiluminati Member but made a spell without explaining to Peter the deal and giving him a day to say goodbye to his family and friends and he risked dooming the multiverse for a kid he barely knew. 3. How is Electro in this movie if he doesn't know Peter Parker, the spell drew in those who knew his secret identity, right? But Electro thought he was black. 3. Sandman wants to go home but ends up switching sides, why? 4. How does curing the villains save them does dying in their own universes? They will still die... as good men. 5. Aunt May death was unnecessary, she knows Peter is superstrong. 6. Toby McGuire and Garfield adlibbed their scenes because he ONLY signed his contract late as they finished rendering the movie, you can tell they didn't write a script for them as they improvised. 7. MJ is rude, the only reason people like her is because it's Zendaya, Peter literally just did 180 in FFH in the beginning scene but nothing was set up. They should've set their lovestory up from Homecoming. Remove Liz entirely and make MJ's dad Vulture.

I though Shuri’s character arc could also have been executed better. Other than her “saying” that she wants everything to burn early in the movie all of her actions are always noble and righteous so it was hard for me to buy that after her meeting with killmonger she would just go on a revenge/murder spree, and the fact that se becomes the black panther before fulfilling her character arc really made the third act very anticlimactic. It was hard to get behind her and feel the emotion of having a new black panther when her character is kind of effing everything up. It would have been much more rewarding for her to earn her place as the black panther after overcoming her internal struggles, which again were a bit confusing and could have been written better.

@markbrierley63672 жыл бұрын
@Almanac while I agree it would affect the planet some of your assumptions aren't founded. 1) The celestial isn't adding any additional mass to the planet during it's birth. It had already been there. Now was it growing and adding mass as it gestated? Maybe. But doesn't really apply here. The moon never fell to Earth so probably not? 2) We don't know what elements the corpse of the celestial are composed of. Reactive with the ocean? Maybe. 3) I'm not an oceanography expert, but there are large land masses separating the two oceans in question. I'm pretty sure tsunamis in the Pacific or Indian oceans don't have catastrophic ramifications for the Atlantic. 4) For Namor's empire to spread from the Gulf of Mexico to the Indian Ocean to be affected it would be larger than the largest Empire in human history. Possible in the MCU? Sure, why not? But if true that's not what the movie portrays. Based on the size of his armed response at both the capital of Wakanda and Wakanda's "fleet" his population doesn't measure up. It could be argued that the forces he brought to bear were only what was reasonably necessary. Sure, but it was still only a couple hundred troops for the second battle. That's a hell of a lot of restraint if his empire is such a size. And if his empire was that large it doesn't really explain why he would even be interested in having Wakanda as an ally against the surface world. 5) Here's where I agree with you somewhat. The amount of matter displacement from something that size moving through planetary layers should have a lot of affects on what is IN the oceans worldwide... over the course of months to years on the global scale. It would certainly affect Namor's country, but not necessarily in such a way that their technologically advanced society couldn't forsee and blunt or prevent the negative affects. To what degree? Who knows. Maybe it's Hurricane Katrina levels of bad. Maybe it's just a small earthquake. So yes, I think "wrong ocean" is a sufficient response to your point.
