FYI: By his preteen years, NAS had settled on pursuing a career as a rapper, and as a teenager enlisted his best friend and upstairs neighbor Willie “Ill Will” Graham as his DJ (hence III ref in Ren’s retake). Nas first went by the nickname Kid Wave (hence Wave reference in Ren’s retake) before adopting his more commonly known alias of Nasty Nas. Nas made his on-record debut as one in his group Main Source with a verse on “Live at the BBQ”, from Main Source’s LP Breaking Atoms. (Again Ren used the breaking atom scheme in his retake) Ren knows his Hip Hop History)

I think this is some of Ren's best penmanship. Mad scheming. I especially love the whole rain / sales / sails / pirates / pied piper / pie rats scheme. Straight fire. I love both this retake and The Hunger for the sheer flex of how hard he can go with condensed rhymes, multisyllabics etc - but I can't wait for him to put out a full 5/6 minute track filled with it. Illest of Our Time and Losing It are two of my favourites of his, just because they feel more complete as tracks.

This was so ridiculously fire, I hope NAS hears this. He will be amazingly flattered and impressed. Dude while you’re on old rap songs, I am super shocked and I’ve been waiting to see your reaction to Adam Calhoun’s shook ones remix. That was absolutely unbelievable as well. I thought you might be staying away from it because The stupid diss battle between him and Upchurch. But you should know that this was not an Upchurch diss. He clearly makes that known in this song he is definitely irritated about the situation, but explains how much he loves Upchurch and he’s his friend. He put an end to that crap. really hope that you do a reaction to it. It’s got almost 1,000,000 views in two weeks. He killed it old school rap

In 1994, Large Professor produced three of the ten songs on Nas's Illmatic ("Halftime", "One Time 4 Your Mind", and "It Ain't Hard to Tell"), the most of any producer involved with the album. Breaking Atoms is the debut album of American/Canadian hip hop group Main Source, released July 23, 1991, on Wild Pitch Records. Production was handled by the group, primarily by member Large Professor, and took place during 1990 to 1991 at Homeboy Studio, Power Play Studios, and Libra Digital in New York City. The album has been widely regarded by writers and music critics as a significantly influential album and has been noted for debuting rapper Nas, who appears on the track "Live at the Barbeque". His contribution to the song was sampled on "The Genesis", the intro track to his debut album Illmatic (1994).
