Musician here. Just want to say that the rhythmic patterns he’s rapping while he’s playing, that is what’s difficult. It’s like having two brains when you can create a polyrhythm by yourself. As far as landing the chords or riffs after removing your hands from the neck, its usually pretty easy for moderately skilled musicians. What’s really cool is that he’s pulling in the hip-hop gestures into the acoustic guitar playing. He’s being an excellent frontman while holding down the musical side of things as well.

Saw an accomplished musician on YT try to copy his chords (which are in themselves a bit strange and unnatural, but not ultra difficult) and vocalise the rhythmic beat at the same time, and he couldn't do it, said he'll go away and practice it! It's like patting your head and rubbing your belly at the same time. And then add to that, do it while you're on a moving public bus.

I agree with you, he's a generational talent. He's a prodigious musician - not just a rapper, rocker, songwriter, crooner, multi-instrumentalist, performer, theatrical actor, producer, videographer. He's got rappers listening to rock and metal. He's got boomers listening to rap. He's got a growing fanbase that's here to watch anything and everything Ren puts out. This is his time, as you said.

Not sure if you’ve seen his latest interview with KnoxHill but he said something really quite crazy and really makes a lot sense when you think about his condition. So every song that he’s dropping has already been recorded and has been for around close to 2 years now. It’s all been filmed and planned out…like the Animal Flow video was filmed February of 2022. He did this because he knew he was going to Canada for treatment and that it could take up to a year…so he just planned out already finished works to periodically drop while he’s been doing treatment. The actual most recent thing he’s recorded is “Hi Ren”.

It was interesting that he said because he does his own production by the time he’s completed his music he’s heard it thousands of times and done it to death death but then when it’s released and people who’ve never heard it before start reacting to it, he learns to love it again.

The acoustic version of Genesis is by far my favorite live acoustic performance of one of his rap songs. He sings the little hook, and the intimacy of the lyrics being so intimate and direct to the camera on that one is so effective. On another note, I’m eternally fascinated watching his breath control.

Yo, just FYI - Ive played guitar for 30+ years and to answer your question about how difficult this is, his arrangement choices in finger style are incredibly intricate. More impressive are his note progressions between chords that link things together and give depth to the riff. To do this while keeping cadance changes within the rap changes is super hard to pull off, not to mention - he fucking nails it with precision at nearly 100% consistency.

It looks like he's running up and down the Bm scale, hitting the base line at the right time as the finished piece and keeping it in the same octaves as the finished piece. It could very well be the original idea he had for the song or he could even be winging it on the spot but personally I think he practiced this at some point, at least as far as the chords go and the timing and rhythm structure, I'm pretty sure he's improvising some of the lead though. You can never tell with Ren, he's meticulous in his song creation and every chord, every note is there for a reason but he is also a busker and buskers love to improvise. The scales, rhythm and timing are the 3 most important things to learn on any instrument and if you can master those 3 you can play whatever you want. What sets Ren apart is his performance, he's a natural performer and obviously a perfectionist but it's so ingrained in him that he probably doesn't even think about it, he instinctively knows what works for which piece he's playing. I dont normally bandy the word genius around and there are better guitarists and lyricists, rappers, singers and performers but there are very few who know how to tap into the empathy of others and even fewer who are as diverse as Ren. He has also learnt how to compensate for his weaknesses. Eg.... Have you noticed how the pitch of his singing voice often changes in songs, one minute he's singing high or using vocal fry and the next he goes deeper and softer.... I'm pretty sure (I might be wrong and apologies to Ren if I am) he does that because he can't keep the pressure on his larynx without damaging his vocals so instead of finding a middle ground he has learnt that by going low to a more natural tone he can save his voice and still keep the dynamic vocalization not only that but the pitch drop adds another element to his vocals, it adds variety so you never ever get bored of his vocals or his songs. He does all this deliberately and intentionally with full knowledge of the affect it has and he uses it with such calculated skill that it seems completely natural, it's also why his flow is so fucking good because, he gets it. The instrumentation is the same. Yea Ren is a fucking genius and his performance ability, work ethic and consistency puts him at the very top of his game.

What makes this even more amazing, is that it looks like they jumped on a real bus and tried to fit the live play in before the bus reached its final destination, you hear the announcement at the end, and you hear him saying it was really close, I think he maybe missed a tiny bit of the end off because he didn't want it interrupting his performance, so he was trying to time the performance with the speed/distance of the bus journey.

Bloody ell that was quick 😂😂😂 Yeah have you noticed how the colour of the jacket blends well with the bus seat ( the same hue, strength of colour, get what I mean ). Really loving the Ren interviews, he's really smart! So what do you guys call busking? Ya gotta have mushy peas with fish and chips, or curry sauce and chips. I don't know what key it's in but I like it...I like that de de de de de de of the guitar riff ( middle part 😂 I don't play guitar either 😂)...can't explain it without doing the sound but the guitar is cool. I think he uses the harmonics as a flourish and then goes back down the scale...hard to express in written word. 7:32 Takes confidence to do shit like this, gotta really appreciate it! I'm really liking this guitar riff though. Ohhh it wasn't the harmonics it was a flick of the strings, I like that though. 9:14 nah it's not from Willy Wonka, he talks about it in his latest interview, one minute.... kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6mwnoOhqch8r5Y Listen from ( 3:22) he talks about it being a tune from the 90's. Called Boom Dat or something, there's loads of tunes with Boom Dat in it, boom dat pimp 😂😂😂 Anyway it's definitely not the umpa lumpas...or what ever the little dudes are called. KRS, awesome,👍 he has something to say with his lyrics! 15:43 It's definitely live, I love that he kept that bit in. Ren's timing is bang on! Yeah Ren's a rare one, and I totally agree with what you're saying about him being once in a lifetime artist, hopefully he's not gonna let anyone put his creative energy in a box ( in fact he's got ADHD so it's not happening cause there's a really creative aspect to ADHD we get bored quick and have to explore shit...I actually believe ADHD is a remnant of the brain from past explorers, no sense of fear, impulsive and take crazy risks and that's what the ancients would have had to have done, there's a hyperfocus/tunnel vision aspect to it and that could have been a well focused element of doing something dangerous, I am by no means an expert but it does make me think that perhaps the wiring would have been useful for explorers)...anyway now I've got off on a tangent, I was trying to say that Ren will probably keep it fresh and interesting the likes of Damon Albarn, David Bowie, Jack White they've all got that attitude to exploring creativity within music and I see it in Ren. Curious to know what he'll do next🤔. Anyway heard you spittin lines on your live, love where your focus is, we need to have more people talking positively and lifting the energy of the planet up! You was flawless, particularly loved the 10 commandments one! 👍💗 Peace xx

Love your reaction BP! Thanks for sharing this had a blast hanging out with you through it! Have a great day!! Can’t wait to see which one you got next for us. FYI: I appreciate you sharing the vocal piece regarding performances, not something I would’ve though of, and enjoy the learning experience.

Best way to explain Ren (for me) - it’s like a kid at the fair seeing that 1 man band (drums/harmonica, guitar, etc. Except it’s for adults. You get that, WOW! How does he do it all!

I agree 100% with you sir! I saw one woman's comment which sumed up what you're saying. She said, "if you wanted to know what it was like when the Beatles came out and the world followed their music, this is it with Ren".

15:30 is what gets me often with Ren, he's just.. Into it. As in actual feeling, emotion, and he manages to project that very well through to produced tracks for the most part.

I don’t know if this exists in American vernacular but in British English ‘Mush’ is also slang for mouth as in ‘shut your f..king mush’ Mushy peas however are definitely an acquired taste, especially if you don’t like peas to start with, because they’ve only got three ingredients - Bicarbonate of Soda, Salt and Peas (99.5% peas).😳

As always, this was a great reaction….I much prefer this version to the video version….. something about Ren and live…..he excels every time…. It’s really special being on this journey and watching Ren grow as an artist . Looking forward to your interview, that will be fun, and hope you are going to be sampling the mushy peas 😁 ❤

So, we have our Ren, BUS KING again. The first thing to remember about Ren is that he is a musician first and foremost. His musical interest runs from Medieval music which encompasses the sacred and secular music of Western Europe during the Middle Ages, from the 6th to 15th centuries. The first major era of Western classical music to the Renaissance period into the ages of soul, swing, classic, rock, and rap and beyond into places yet to be discovered. A creator of sight, sound, and a dramatist bard as well as a poet. His keen interest in sound production comes naturally. He knows how it should sound in rhythm, timing, and flow as he layers in every nuance until it surrounds and encompasses you.

I appreciate that Ren uses his guitar as another voice. Especially in Hi Ren. I felt like there were 4 characters in that video, the 1st actually being the guitar because of how it started and the impact that it created throughout the entire song. BTW, I'd watch every 1 of your reaction videos of every Ren song. Thank you for your insight and your awesome positive energy.
