I'm black and my siblings and I swim like fish (7 of us). I had twin brothers (one deceased) who were like Olympic divers. I grew up in a community where we swam all day in the summertime (so much fun). In my community back in the sixties and seventies that's all we did. I've heard this stereotype but growing up I thought black people did know how to swim, because in my neighborhood we all knew how to swim and dive

There’s evidence to suggest that bone density is higher among black people. Biological differences between race and ethnicities exist. That’s why some Africans are exceptional bodybuilders while other regions have runners.

I'm White, 61, from Jersey, and I never learned to swim. Floating around in the water in a pool is great. I almost drowned in undertows at the Shore as a teen. Twice. No more ocean for me. I live in N. CA now. On the Coast. I never go in the ocean. I walk on the shoreline. But go in the water? HELL. NO.

@JessJayEel
@JessJayEel 5 жыл бұрын
@@blackdontcrack8203 that still wouldn't affect black people from floating though so why even bring it up. Notice that anything negatively associated with us is attributed to our biology but for white people it is attributed to their upbringing and childhood. It is white supremacist talking points. The same thing use to make a argument that we have inferior intelligence so it was warranted that we had to be colonized and enslaved because we wouldn't have the brain power to build anything on our own aka the "White Mens Burden". I hate stereotypes because they try to limit what an individual can do.

If swimming pools/ice skating rinks/cycling tracks etc were built in non-white neighborhoods (especially in USA & Canada), then there'd be neighborhood backlash...as in "Why didn't they INSTEAD build baseball/basketball/boxing/cricket/football/soccer/running etc facilities?! 'WE'RE' NOT swimmers/ice skaters/cyclists etc!!"...plus Indo/South Asian communities' backlash "Why didn't they INSTEAD build educational/intellectual facilities?! 'WE'RE' NOT athletes!!"

No sorry but WE Black people are THE best swimmers. Did you know that ancient surfboards were found, not in the Polynesian Islands, but in the Ivory Coast in Africa?? So Black people NOT knowing how to swim is a MYTH, and instilled from slavery to scare them from escaping!! When I was in the Army I was a master swimmer, outswimming almost my whole Ranger platoon. Yeah. WE Black people are natural born swimmers. Don't believe the hype, y'all.

A serious question here. Since Africa has some of the more dangerous waters due to an abundance of dangerous predators, could it be a genetic imprint passed down that creates a DNA-based disposition in African descendants to instinctually have negative feelings about bodies of water, in turn, resulting in a common lack of desire to swim for enjoyment creating a group that is less inclined to have a need/desire for the skill? Not saying “black people can’t swim” but actually that it’s less of an important skill to descendants of native Africans hence why it’s not uncommon for a black person to lack the skill resulting in the overgeneralized stereotype.

When I was in boot camp in the marines we had to swim qualification. If you didn’t qualify you had to go back and try again. Full cammies and boots. I didn’t make it the first go around. This was maybe 6 platoons. When I went back there was maybe 30 of us and I was the only white guy. The instructor said where you from. He said I know why they can’t swim why can’t you swim. I still can’t really swim and I bet those 29 other guys can’t either.

higher levels of calcium deposits probably, another one is black people are less susceptible to getting skin cancer due to the melanin levels in their skin, the deficiency in white people is a mutation due to the climates we live in, example there is insufficient sunlight in the northern hemisphere to produce enough vitamin d so our bodies produced less melanin to absorb more sunlight, on the flip side of this a black person is more likely to struggle to produce enough vitamin d in colder climates, different races have many different characteristics but we all agree on a social level it's irrelevant as we all have to live together.
