Many people have a stereotype that black individuals excel in all sports, primarily due to their impressive physicality and athletic prowess in certain disciplines. As of 2021, in the NBA, a professional basketball league in the U.S., black players make up 73%. In the NFL, American football, it's about 60%. Not to mention track and field, where both sprints and marathons have long been dominated by black athletes.
However, outside of these sports, there aren't many where black athletes dominate. In the major American sports leagues, like the MLB for baseball and the NHL for ice hockey, black athletes only represent about 7%.
It's even more pronounced in iconic summer and winter sports like swimming and skating. Furthermore, in sports like tennis, cycling, golf, fencing, archery, table tennis, wrestling, rugby, canoeing, gymnastics, taekwondo, car racing, weightlifting, and martial arts, the presence of black athletes is minimal.
