Today that same town has a population of 2,200. This song absolutely applies to small town USA. We take care of each other regardless of skin color.

My husband was born in 1960 grew up in a town of 2200. When we got married we moved back there. His niece died from getting hit by a car. When we got back home from where it happened (it was in town). We had four notes on the front door telling us if we needed anything to call them. By the next morning there was at least a dozen. That's how it is in a small town.

I am a 38-year-old black man and I just listen to this song and all I can say is I agree 1000% with the lyrics and sentiment behind this song. Society can tolerate rap music that promotes killing, assault, drug use, and all sorts of deviancy but can't promote a song like this, that's the outrage! The "big cities" of America run by blue people are out of control with the violence, lack of morals, lack of decency, and lack of community blows my mind. If I say I identify as an American with good morals it's seen as hate speech, but If I identify as a deviant ham sandwich that’s totally fine, and I'll be propped up by the blue people as being "brave"! The fact that these big cities won’t even prosecute criminals is partly why this crap is still going on but ultimately this goes back to the lack of parenting in the home! I swear I could go on and on about the reasons why this song is better than the crap we see and listen to on a daily basis. The fake outrage for this song has me “triggered”, lol. I was born and raised in a small town in Missouri and I can't tell you how watching those riots just broke my heart. All that hate and lawlessness. As a 62 yr old white woman, I support this song. I heard the controversy and immediately watched the video to see what Jason put out. I definitely did not pick up on any specific racist content. There were all colors and different riots all over the country and not the first time that building had been in movies/videos. But of course, its was the liberal big mouths who started the "racist" crap. I've lived in big cities and am currently in a small town, and small towns do take care of their own. No, not every person is going to be pure in heart, but color doesn't matter when its your friend, your neighbor or even someone you don't know, who is in need. I'm 71 years old and I come from a small town, and people stick up for one another black, white, or brown. The politicians and the news media keep racism alive because it pays the bills. I moved to Dallas, TX in 1982 and got a 2nd shift job at a corrugating and box plant. One evening it was just myself and big John Lott a black man, and he was doing some machining on a lathe in the shop. The radio was blaring country music, so I reached to change the channel. Big John Lott yelled at me, what are you doing boy! Changing the channel, I said. His reply was why? My reply was, it's country music and I didn't think you listened to country. He says, you stereo typing me boy? My reply was, No. He insists I am and that he does listen to country music. My reply was, I didn't know. He says, at lunch we'll go to parking lot, and I'll show you. He had many country music cassettes, as well as other genre's. A few years later this older Black man I worked with ask my help to change out the power distribution, or breaker box at his house. I did it for no charge, but once I was done, he unlocked a side room on his old. what I call a shotgun house to reveal what many would call a man's cave these days. He walked over to and older but nice record player, lower the needle and it was Hank Williams LP. He had a beautiful garden and gave me a grocer sack filled with vegetables. What I learned is what everyone should know. I am of mixed race, but if you were to see me, you'd say. I'm white, but that's not the whole truth. They want to herd you into groups in order to better control you. Race is not one's defining factor, and everyone has their own thoughts, ideas, likes, and dislikes, but race doesn't define that. When politicians, the media can herd you into a corner, they control your actions. Critical thinking is no longer taught, they want you programmed to think like they tell you. I'm a simple man and don't profess to be all wise, but sone things are just too blatant to ignore. Don't follow the crowd, go your own way, and don't be herded like cattle.

I’m a black woman and bought the song yesterday. This song IS NOT RACIST!!! I didn’t come from a small town but us GenX folks remember what it meant to look out for your neighbors. Parents all knew each other and would whoop each other’s kids if they didn’t act right. Community was important to us and we cared about each other. We were all poor but when someone was in need of food, babysitting so someone could make it to work, we were there for each other. This song resonated with me.

I remember us all being friends, hanging out, and spending the night at each other's houses after the high school football games on Friday nights. Our parents looked out for all of us. I'm 47 years old, white and I grew up in San Diego. I grew up around every race of people you can think of. When I was younger we didn't trip on color. I also grew up in a very rough part of San Diego I was technically a minority but that didn't matter. We all were from the same hood. Most of the critics are White's who live in nice suburbs. I live in a small town just 20 min away from where Jason’s video was recorded and I can speak from experience. This song is 100% true. You’re not gonna walk into a CVS or a Walmart and fill up a garbage bag full of merchandise and expect to just walk out without getting dealt with and you’re not gonna sucker punch somebody on a sidewalk and get away with it.
