Black Rose Wars: Rebirth is a competitive fantasy game of deck-building, strategy, and combat set in the hectic universe of Nova Aetas in Italy. BRW:R is the second chapter in Black Rose Wars series.
25 years later, after the last war, mages are here in the Lodge, to re-establish order. Rooms are broken and now it's time to rebuild them up. Black Rose is still there.
Each player is one of powerful mages of the Black Rose Order who aspires to become the new Supreme Magister in order to acquire the mighty power of the Black Rose Artifact and the Forgotten Magic. Mages must fight, fulfill Black Rose desires, and gain strength with their spells until their power reaches the containment threshold of the prison where they are exiled, finally freeing themselves. Each mage has at their disposal six schools of magic, each one with its own strategy to annihilate their opponents and increase their power.
Mages fight each other in a modular arena of hexagons called "rooms". They summon powerful creatures, cast destructive spells, or devise dark deceptions with their enchantments.
The game system is divided into different phases. Each turn, after choosing new spells from the six schools of magic, players plan their strategy in advance, placing cards face down. Later, they reveal the played cards to kill each other, solve missions, summon creatures, or destroy the prison rooms, one against each other and against the Black Rose (the playing system).
After being killed, mages are reborn immediately, allowing them to re-enter the fight without delay - although their death still fed energy to those mages who caused it.

I feel like the point here is i am not buying a system, I am busy enforcing the variability, I love new mages, and schools. This is the main reason i am getting the lot :) I avoid non-content since i love the schools and the replayability

Don't know if you'll see this, hopefully you will, what are your thoughts on the viability of Black Rose as a solo game? I only ask as most of my gaming time is, unfortunately, solo due to where I live (and a couple other reasons). I love the idea of this game, the art direction and the themes but it seems as though it's a bit of a poor investment for solo play.

Missed the KS, but found some online retailers that allow for preorders (albeit a bit spendier than pledging as a KS backer). This game looks so awesome and fun, what a time to jump in for the reprint/revised version!

Here is what I think. I think your just going to try and sell me on backing, but I did not back the previous KS and passed. I considered, so I am your target audience, but I know I have others I can rely on that did back, have played, Black Rose Wars and might pass on Rebirth, so I am interested in both core mechanics, and what they did like and not like about Black Wars, and what might be in store for any possible updates or changes, especially fundamental reworking of game rules that eliminate the things not liked previously about the first Black Wars. I'm about to watch the video so lets see how good Jesse does in presenting a, let's call it review, and advice, so I can make an informed decision that does not seek to sell me on the game and does not care if I back or not, and does not involve Jesse making an attempt to get us the audience to back the kickstarter. After this I will go watch other channels and then, and only then, will I make an informed choice deciding to finally commit to backing the new KS or cancel the pledge I already have.

I completely agree. I dropped my early bird pledge. I like a lot of what's going on here. I just feel like it could be done better and with less, which would/could make it more strategic and easier to play. Too many decks and rules and things to track for my game group and myself.

I would really like to play Black rose war just one time. I only got Sine Tempore from Ludus Magnus and that was not a great game, not at all (just ok at best). Some tru good idea but drowned in bad rules and fidly things. Could have been so cool, if it would have been play tested more for the missions. The miniatures however was just stunnig ! Nova Aetas seems better on the rules and event in game. So maybe on a different kind of game like Black rose... I'm gona watch your video with attention !

did you find the original black rose wars balanced after multiple plays? specifically with reference to the relative power of the mages, spell schools, and quests.

I'm curious just how "forwards compatible" the original is. I backed Rebirth, but I don't own the original. I'd like to augment my Rebirth content with the mages and spells from the original, but it seems like the slight changes would cause problems.

Thank you for the in depth analysis as I am considering this as new to the Black Rose system and the genre as well design is an attraction. However, do you consider this worth the purchase as a solo endeavor given the new automa?

Would you recommend this for 2 players? Bgg poll had a strong recommendation against it, but the designer said it does work You said it needs an automa, but is it worth the investment when playing with 2, i.e. is the game a must have when playing that way.

I was under the impression that avatars provide an NPC element essential for solo play but can fill the role of a 3rd player for a 2 player fame.
