I never had a problem with the production on Born Again. I dig that thick, muddy sound. 1984 is also my least favorite VH album, but I still love it. I think Top Jimmy is the dark horse on that one.

Clean sweep for VH 1984 is my favorite and like you say timeline is everything and it came out when I was 10-11 years old and MTV blew up with those videos. Hot For Teacher and Panama are my favorite VH songs and Good Girl Gone Bad in my top 5. Yes Hot For Teacher is my very favorite VH song! Its everything VH is about and the best EVH solo not counting Eruption plus the damn drums are iconic and Roth's lyrics spot on killer!

When I saw the album cover thumbnail I was reminded of something that occurred to me last year - That Van Halen stole the angel wings while smoking cigarettes idea from Black Sabbath's Heaven & Hell cover a mere 4 years earlier! It had to be influential somehow. Pretty good theory, huh? Anyway, listen to Black Sabbath and schmackamagob!

6:09 the Beavis and Butthead reboot NEEDED you haha! I disagree on best song (Girl Gone Bad for me) but I'm totally with you on production of Born Again and (especially) Hotter Than Hell. The grunge adds something special to the songs and they sound unique as a result.

1984 is the only Van Halen album I own. They were kinda over when I started listening to Metal in 87 and I never bothered listening to Van Hagar. None of my friends who liked Metal really listened to them either, although I think that had a lot to do with timeline. I'm not sure Van Halen were ever as big in the UK as bands like Motley Crue and Guns n Roses...But again, I could be wrong down to timeline cos Dave Lee Roth, Van Helen had been over for a few years by the time me and my friends started getting into metal music. I only bought 1984 a couple of years back cos you always rave about the real Van Halen, Ralph. I enjoyed it. My fave tracks are Hot For Teacher and Jump. Hot For Teacher also has an amazing music video.

Great video Ralph! 5:30 Van Halen played a short instrumental version of Girl Gone Bad during their US Fest in 1983 -- set so GGB might be more "classic" VH than Hot For Teacher -- on a technicality maybe

Born Again my favorite Black Sabbath album ever and Ian Gillan was the best Black Sabbath vocalist ever. He belted out the Ozzy songs and the Dio songs better than they did them. Black Sabbath: 9 / Van Halen: ZERO. Born Again made Sabbath sound like Hell's house band.

I love both albums. Born Again I like even more. Filthy is the best term I can think of and yes I love that about it. 1. Trashed 2. Jump 3. Disturbing the Priest 4. Top Jimmy 5. Zero the Hero 6. Digital Bitch 7. Born Again 8. Girl Gone Bad 9. House of Pain 5-4 Born Again Hot for Teacher rules! That drum intro, Dave's classic swag and Eddie's riffage and solo. Hard to beat.

I understand why Hot For Teacher would be some people's favorite. It's a great song. But Panama is my favorite Van Halen song ever. The only thing I'd complain about Panama is it's a relatively short song. I wish they could've made it about 30 seconds longer.

Black Sabbath "Born Again" absolutely smokes Van Halen "1984". I love Van Halen, but to me it's not even a competition. Black Sabbath "Born Again" is one of my all time favorites and it's wickedly heavy. Van Halen "1984" is really good but it was an album where they were slightly drifting into pop. I still love Van Halen "1984" and I like all of the songs in it a lot. I love all of the David Lee Roth Van Halen albums. "Women And Children First" and "Fair Warning" are my two favorites from them. But Black Sabbath "Born Again" crushes "1984" like a tin can in an alley.

I HATE "Jump!" The first time I ever heard it, my buddies & I were Sitting in the Parking lot at the Lakeland Civic Arena, waiting for the doors to open for the KISS "Lick it up" tour. The DJ on the radio said he was going to play a NEW Van Halen song on next. When it first came on, I said "Is THAT the new Van Halen?" & my buddy said "It better not be the new Van Halen."

I agree with everything you said about Van Halen. Bought Born AGAIN when it came out. Born Again is a better album than 1984. Hot for Teacher is not the best song on 1984 and Born Again is not better than Heaven and Hell or Mob Rules. IN MY OPINION..
