Wow, what a great lesson!!! I was especially thrilled that we got a brief history of Iommi before he started the lesson. I already knew most of it (except about what amp he used) but its great for newcomers and hardcore Sabbath fans alike to discover/remember that Tony Iommi had to deal with missing two fingers before becoming one of rocks greatest guitarists. Also, it's great to find out about his rig. Thanks so much!

@jKazej Tony used Oranges for that one session. He personally hates Oranges, which I found weird because I am a HUGE Sabbath fan, and I can get a very accurate, early Sabbath tone out of them. Great amps, they are.

69' Laney Supergroups 100W yeah. But in the late 60's he uses Orange Amps In the 80's he uses MesaBoogie Amps But now, he uses Laney GH100TI's, sometimes he uses EVH 5150 ( you can see it in the WhoCares - Out of My Mind video ), and ENGL PowerBall.

it's in standard tuning he used it for most of the early recordings with his SG, later on he used drop D , I always preferred the original ...

if you watch the 1970 live in paris vid he's playing a Gibson SG Standard, I saw them in 71 and he was playing that same guitar, I have have a tobacco finish Standard from 74 , I love the hell out of it, If that 's not an SG he's playing what else can it have been ? There wasn't a lot of guitar company's other than Fender & Gibson Dueling back then. A friendly response please would be cool.

I just don't see how he got such a heavy sound with such small gauge strings. I know it all adds up but your getting a real heavy tone from that LP compared to the SG. Toni's pups were also custom made for him also correct? He is just an awesome guitarist. He will always be Black Sabbath to me not Heaven and Hell. LOL Great lesson Andy. Sometimes it is hard to see exactly where your finger placement is, maybe you could have a diagram off to the side.

Line 6??? that stuff is garbage.. Check out Blackstar ID series amps that model tubes not amps.. Lightyears better than line 6 trash and much cheaper.. I had my doubts about anything solid state sounding and responding like a real valve amp but after plugging one in, well now there is a 100 watt ID in the house. def worth checking out before you throw cash away on any solid state modeling amp. just an opinion like anything else but the boys at Blackstar have me believing solid state can work..haha

Blake Poingdestre I didn't even know there is a vast selection of effects, and tones you can Dload for the ID series when I made that comment.. Now I have the 60watt 2/12 combo too,, Man never thought I would endorse a solid state anything but I am completely converted to Blackstar's solid state line up now. (1) hands down the best bang for the buck (2) it literally takes 5minn to set up and play as opposed to an hour with my JCM/Mesa valve heads..(3) sounds amazingly like a valve amp with no break up at high or low d.b levels.. Blackstar boys are killing it man..
