Well as soon as I released the first Black Sabbath lesson on this site a few days ago, I have been bombarded with requests for more, so who am I to disappoint. :)
In this War Pigs guitar lesson video we will actually be taking a look at 3 riffs within this classic Black Sabbath track. I would definitely call these 3 riffs the main riffs of the tune.
Some of the more interesting aspects of these riffs involve a chromatic power chord progression, quick shifts, syncopated rhythms and much more.
I will break each one those down as we get to them in the video, but let me summarize it a little bit first.
In the first riff we have a quick shift followed by those aforementioned chromatic power chords. Perhaps the most difficult part of this riff is the fact that you always have to end it with a fill then quickly jump back into a fast power chord shift after that.
In the second riff we have to grab a triad at the 12th fret then slide it down quickly to make it down to the 2nd fret for the rest of the riff. Within this riff we also have a syncopated rhythm using a quarter note triplet. I suggest listening to this part of the song a lot just so you can feel the rhythm without having to think about it too much. This is 95% of the time the best way to learn an awkward rhythm.
The 3rd riff is pretty much an easier version of the 2nd riff so no worries there.
So I do think this War Pigs guitar lesson can challenge a lot of players in a multitude of ways. Hopefully not too much though. :)

Here's a list of great, great sabbath songs with some truly EPIC guitar stuff which don't have decent/ complete tutorials on youtube yet: 1. Black Sabbath - complete song with epic outro solo 2. Electric funeral 3. Lord of this world (jesus christ why is no one doing a tutorial on this - what a great guitar song!) 4. Wheels of confusion 5. Supernaut 6. Sweet leaf (another riff that's a pillar in rock music but has no decent tutorial on youtube) 7. The wizard 8. St. Vitus Dance 9. After forever 10. Symptom of the universe (holy fuck, do i even have to say anything more!? somebody's gotta do a lesson on this!) It's a shame these songs have been ignored by teachers on youtbe because these are some of the greatest riffs/ solos of all time. Black sabbath is one of the greatest if not THE greatest rock/ hard rock/ metal bands ever. Another one is Deep Purple, also gets overlooked in the guitar lesson community. I mean, there's just so much to learn from these bands... Carl, you're the man! You have no idea how many guitarists you've helped on their journey to mastery. Thank you always! Hope you read this comment and do some of these lessons! I think you're the only one in youtube who does detailed, complete transcriptions. Now, THAT is what you call dedication!

No they are a set of custom pickups made by a guy named Kerry Learned. He sells primarily on eBay I believe. He sells under the eBay username klea3031. In any case, these are his custom 64's set with a slight 5% overwound on the bridge pickup. :)

The intro is the easiest part. It’s just power chords. You can figure it out by ear.
