I loved your reaction. The thing about Black Sabbath is that they started off great, then got better. If you're into them, you really need to start at the beginning with the song "Black Sabbath" and work up from there. It seems like all the requests are for the best stuff first, but trust me every song is an experience and if you liked this one you'll really like the rest. Look for lyric videos and stick with the studio versions, they put a lot into the studio versions. Thanks guys.

A true banger from an album full of them Paranoid) and a band with a catalog with many classic songs. You have just barely scratched the surface. You should do them from the beginning with the song that shocked the world and established them as the first, true Heavy Metal band. Do Black Sabbath, on the album Black Sabbath by the band Black Sabbath. Please listen to the studio original first, it will change your perspective on how music evolved in that era and really turbo charged the beginning of the 1970s. They are well worth diving into, their first 6 albums are utter classics. They are one of my top 10 Rock Bands no matter the genre. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶

Seems you're just starting off in the reaction video universe. You've got a chance now to decide (if you stick with rock genres, that is) which way to approach it. You can jump around getting a taste of them here and there, or you can stick with an era or genre, get a good sense of it and then move on to the next. The thing is, there is so much variability to each era that you may have a hard time switching from one to the next, like finishing up with Mexican food after a main meal of Chinese. You tend to get wrapped up in one genre at a time and then another genre can create a type of dysphoria. Just a suggestion. And since you've already made inroads to the earlier days, this would make for an excellent chronological beginning approach to understanding rock music. As someone who has lived through rock music from close to its start, let me give you a very basic view of the different eras just to get you somewhat oriented. It gets way too involved with sub-genres to get into and, frankly, most of this categorization only became formally named long after the genre had gone away, at least for the average guy who listened to what was playing (a lot of it on the radio) and just enjoyed it. So from my personal understanding of the basics, here's what I've got: 60s Rock: Bands like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones were probably agreed to be amongst the kings. The Beatles started out more Rock and Roll, which was quite different and came before the social revolution in the late 60s. It was far less risky and based on here-and-now kind of lyrics for teenagers--love, some smatterings of lust, nothing (directly) about drugs, and very little social commentary. (This era predated me, but I certainly still heard a lot of it by the time the mid 70s rolled around (when I was a young teenager) and disco took over the airwaves. Most rock fans retreated to local FM radio stations, many times college radio stations, to listen to what had come before and what was being introduced.) Late 60s early 70s: After awhile The Beatles ended up as one of the forces that drove a new era of what is now simply called Rock music. The Stones mostly kept with their own style, which was quite unique and breakthrough all its own. Led Zeppelin (heavily influenced by Blues music) was certainly far more important in the introduction of Heavy Metal (along with Black Sabbath, etc.), which featured much more driving, hard, adrenaline pumping music. Late 70s: Lots of big-hair bands coming out, with cat suits and rapid-fire guitar solos. We still called them Heavy Metal, but I'm sure they deserved a category all their own. While you can clearly see the styles of the time in this video, Queen had a unique musical style called "Rock Opera," which remained theirs all alone (in this video, you can clearly hear the operatic elements) most bands weren't anywhere near as cerebral. Where Queen characterized a kind of higher level thinking, more intelligent rock, a lot of the US bands were mostly based at a work class level, where rock had its roots. Lots of bands with names suggesting destruction, conquest, monsters and the like give you an idea of the lyrical content as well as the super-charged Heavy Metal element. Late in the 70s Punk music came around that was one wild bag all its own. While an American band, The Ramones, started it, it was quickly picked up amongst the working class neighborhoods of London. Tons of antiestablishmentarianism (took a long time to type out that one), screaming vocals, and hard driving, in-your-face music. Think spiky haired guy, lots of studded leather and smoke-filled underground bars in London. 80s: Completely different style of rock came out called "New Wave." This was characterized by much less driving music and more melodic sounds. The vocals tended to be less emotional and colder. There was a suggestion in some music themes of a future takeover of man by machine and people losing their emotions. Lots of distant stares and muted expressions you'd find in the movie "Blade Runner." But the genre could run the gamut. Synthesizers were in and the entire genre had a very clearly different, almost automated feel to anything that came before. 90s: Although formally starting off in the late 80s with Grunge Music coming out of Seattle, it quickly gained a new name as bands from all over started picking it up. Then rebranded as Alternative Rock, this music style went back to its Heavy Metal roots. No longer were synthesizers, sophistication, melodies and modernity emphasized, the term "garage band" came around, named for a group of friends who got together in a garage and just played music with the few instruments they had. Guitars, drum and bass now made up the full palette of instruments. In a way, the power of Heavy Metal was back, but this time no longer were bands singing about conquest and destruction but were rather about self-reflection and nuance-- but all with Heavy Metal intensity. Late 90s: Looking back, the 90s were certainly a golden era in rock music that even rivaled the early 70s. Later in the 90s Alternative branched off into Nu Metal (which tended to mix rap with some of the heaviest beats and high-T level guitars ever. Bass guitars were no longer just for the background but were heard thumping away and even started being played as one might a six-string guitar. Another genre branched off which I'll refer to as "Death Metal" but goes by so many names with so many sub-genres I can't keep track of them. (They should have been called, "Death by Nomenclature.") I can't tell you much of this genre as I never really got into it. But expect to hear a lot of Heavy Metal that bangs so hard, it may as well have been made by psychotics (which enthusiast would probably be proud to hear). There are a lot of rapid-fire transitions played a volumes last heard in the Punk era (I attribute much of my hearing loss to Punk), and a kind of huffing, almost dog-like barking of vocals. Skulls, spiky rivets, anger and mental illness are primary. I have to bow out after the 90s. Music seemed to go online and the best bands were probably unknown to most people and were never promoted by a music industry that the internet had killed. But hopefully this reminiscence will orient you to what to expect as you slide the rock dial amongst eras and corresponding genres. Unbelievable diversity. In fact I would assert that the diversity of sounds coming from a single band could outdo the diversity of the entire rap or hip-hop genres. (Bear in mind, this coming from someone who knows very little about these styles.) You are going to hear real instruments being played by real people and actual human voices being used as instruments unto themselves. This adds so much to enabling the diversities you're listening to. In fact there is so much variation and exceptions within eras, and even within genres themselves, that when I think back at what I just wrote I come up with a whole slew of additions and points that could be used to contradict what I just said. So I just hope you take this as a starting off point with three decades of some of the best music ever written and a universe of music ahead of you.
