You should definitely check out the track that follows this on the Sabotage album, namely "Megalomania". As you surmised, it does help with the flow. Quick note, the Sabotage album is very much Sabbath's angry album. They were being screwed over in court by their former manager during the day while recording the album at night. There's an excellent 30 minute documentary on youtube which is easy to find which explains it all, and looks at the album's recording. Definitely worth a watch.

Iommy's songwriting is immense! The 1st BS song I heard was Into the void. I was 15, had become a SciFi- fan at the age of 14. It hit me like a hammer! From the Rock'n'Roll of the sixties, Hard Rock was beeing invented. Metal was not a genre, yet. Some harder rock was even played by The Beatles (Helter Skelter) and Bee Gees (Idea). To look at it from the drumming side, you may wanna look for Andrew Rooney. He has become a huge fan of Bill Ward. I'm in awe of this beautiful love song: how he introduces her into his darkest fears (the ocean, I've been crying all these years). And it doesn't shy her away.( In your eyes I see no sadness...) And then their happy ever after. Amazing! Greetings from the far north of Germany!

I just love Ozzy's voice myself, an I grew up, I heard this when I was 13, in 1978 and they soon became my favorite band. Now they released there first album in 1970 and was a very Heavy Metal sound, an nobody had heard anything like it, not even close

Sometimes when i listen to this song i swear i hear a younger Dave Mustaine´s vocal, and not Ozzy..lol.. also i think there is a riff that tells me Iron maiden took influence in this song, when they made the riffs for Rime of the ancint marineer.. there is more riffs in that song, but at a short moment here, i picked up some of that same rhytm..

The original Black Sabbath (Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward) set the foundations of what became heavy metal music... They took what Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, and The Who were doing and took it one level heavier 🤘🤘They genuinely terrified people back in the 70's (and 80's) w/ their brand of dark lyrics and heavy riffs. The first 2 Sabbath albums in 1970 were bluesy and mixed ominous riffs w/ heavy grooves and dark imagery... They were instantly a success. The 3rd and 4th album by 1972 saw the band peaking creatively and also becoming a major success. Unfortunately, drugs and alcohol came w/ success... 5th album in 1973 was another success w/ more keyboards being used. However, the band discovered in 1974 that their management had robbed them blind and they were nearly destitute... They fired the managers and filed lawsuits and countersuits... They claimed that they started making records after '74 again just to pay off the lawyers. This was the 6th album 'Sabotage' in 1975 and Sabbath were angrier and heavier... the songs were more aggressive and had lyrics blasting the music business. Going into 1976, the music scene started to change as punk rock got popular... Sabbath decided to make a sonic change on the 7th album 'Technical ecstasy' and Ozzy hated the record - he felt it was too polished... It was the first Sabbath album to fail commercially. The 8th album 'Never say die!' was recorded under duress... Ozzy was not happy w/ the music and Sabbath struggled to make a great record... It became another commercial failure and Black Sabbath found themselves being blown away on tour by a young Van Halen. In 1979, Ozzy Osbourne was fired after weeks of sessions produced no new music... He eventually picked himself up from his drug and alcohol haze and was able to launch a major solo career in 1980. Meanwhile, Black Sabbath hired vocalist Ronnie James Dio in 1980 and recorded 'Heaven and Hell' which became a comeback album... it was Sabbath returning to their roots sonically - the dark and heavy music ... But Bill Ward (drums) hated playing without Ozzy and left the band. A second album w/ Ronnie in 1981 ('Mob rules') was successful w/ Vinny Appice (drums)... but disagreements over 1982 live album 'Live evil' led to Ronnie James Dio and Vinny Appice leaving to form the band Dio in 1983. Black Sabbath carried on w/ new singers... new musicians, but the original band remained the most iconic.

Have a listen to 'Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (1973) its an inspirational track with 'THE' heaviest riff towards the end, even more than this one! :o) Enjoy.

One thing metal bands never learned from Black Sabbath is you have to play soft, to be epically heavy. Too many metal band only play hard and fast, but it becomes laborious to listen to, and gets stale real fast.
