I've been playing for 23 years, and 2 points of advice: 1.) Learn to tap your foot to the BPM to keep rhythm. 2.) Don't hold back on your vocals while playing. Seriously, don't cheat yourself out of "multi tasking" skills like this. 10 years after I picked up my first guitar I was kicking myself in the ass for worrying about what my voice sounded like, because it's your vocals that sell the song.

@@super_capybara1 check your tone. Drive your volume with the amplifier, not the volume knob on the guitar itself. Also, make sure your eq is set to your standard. I like the Metallica lows up, mids down, and highs up. If your cord is frayed it could "screech" at you too.
