Saw and met Black Sabbath after the show in 1971. I just walked into the waiting room next to the dressing room after the concert and I was the only person around besides them. Ozzy came out first from dressing room to look at posters of previous acts that had played the auditorium and got to speak with him about the show and music . Shortly thereafter the other band members came out and then proceded to the car awaiting them outside the venue. Went again to Ozzfest in 1999 but for me I will always be more impressed with 1971.

The first ever live video I ever saw of black sabbath before youtube or any of that shit was my old man came home from work with a vhs tape and was like "wanna see a real drummer?" because I was just getting into playing drums and teaching myself and he put the tape on and it was this Paris performance and the first song I saw was war pigs and it blew my mind and changed my approach to playing drums after I saw how Bill was playing. That was like in the late 90s and was the entire concert on that vhs 🤘This video and Zeppelins the song remains the same movie and moby dick solo made a major impact on my life when I was 1st teaching myself drums not to sound all corny lol. My ol'man showed me both of those back when I was a kid.

This is an extremely shoddy piece of journalism, I have to say. They complain about the lack of tribute in Birmingham, but a good tribute by the BBC would have been an honest, accurate story: (1) The "rare footage of Black Sabbath's first live performance in Birmingham" is, in fact, from the Live in Paris 1970 bootleg. It's not rare, it's not the band's first performance, and it's not in Birmingham. (2) The term "heavy metal" in reference to music (or to sound, at least) was already in use, at least as far back as the 1968 Steppenwolf song, "Born to Be Wild." The first usage in print was a 1970 Rolling Stone review for the 1969 Humble Pie album, AS SAFE AS YESTERDAY IS. There's no known evidence that the term "heavy metal" originated with the release of Black Sabbath's debut album, and the BBC sure doesn't provide any in this feature piece. !!!>(3) The drummer on this tour is NOT founding member Bill Ward!!! Though, he's alive and well, Bill fell out with the rest of the band over a money issue relating to this tour. If memory serves, Bill was to receive a smaller percentage of the tour's proceeds than the other three band members, and he didn't think it was right, and I don't blame him. Kind of an important piece of information to leave out in a chronicling of the band and its farewell tour. The band's drummer, talented as he is, is not related to the vast majority of the band's 48-year history.

I think it's just as important, though rarely mentioned anymore, that Tony went after that heavy guitar sound by endless tinkering. He didn't just pick up a stomp-box at the music store and get that sound. He took his guitar pickups apart and experimented with the wiring, at different times he filled the p/u cavity with wax or tin foil. He was looking for the loudest, most distorted sound he could get without feedback. When I first heard that guitar in 1970 I was hooked forever.

For those who know all Sabbaths history heres a little talked about factiod ,after Sabbaths 1st US tour which i fell in love with the band,every music critic put Sabbath on blast & said the band had no musical ability & played guitars they werent good enough to even tune ,it took a musician who was highly respected in the Rock world,the Jazz world & the Orchestral music world to stand up for the band and tell Rolling Stone magazine that Tony Iommis guitar riffs were " perfect riffs " ,the industry pretty much couldnt dispute Frank Zappas high praises of the band being Zappa wrote music the London Symphony Orchestra couldnt play while his Rock band could ,Zappa spoke out again calling the riff to War Pigs a riff he himself was talented enough to have written ,then for free took the stage and announced " the greatest Rock band in the world to the audience i was in at the NYC Palladium ,the music industry at the time considered Orchestral studio musicians to be the best in the world so when Zappa wrote his first Modern Classical & Chamber music pieces at 15 years old the sheer complexity of Zappas works stood music critics worlds on their ear ,back then the only other Rock band to get Frank Zappas attention and admiration was Grand Funk Railroad who went on to be bigger than Led Zeppelin or the Beatles ,im sure FZ is looking down on Sabbath grinning his ass off at being right when he called Black Sabbath the best Rock band in the world,and he was right .

There will be another show because the final gig has to be with Bill Ward which is what I think Tony was getting at. I hope they don't drag it out like the stones did. The researchers did not do their work properly. Heavy Metal was coined in the Steppenwolf song born to be wild. It was rolling stone magazine that used the phrase to describe their sound. The first gig footage is not right. They were a blues band called Earth originally and the song Black Sabbath song was first played in Lichfield at a venue called The Pokey Hole according to Geezer.

It's been pretty well documented - SO Hates Bill, and rumour has it that she was behind (or at least heavily involved with) drawing up the contracts for the final tour, presenting Bill with "an unsignable contact", amounting to him getting a lot less than the rest of the band. Sharon said she had nothing to do with it, which everyone kind of thinks is bullshit. Short version: she wanted more $$$ for ozzy at the expense of Bill (and she's got a bit of form in this area - ozzy's first two solo albums, she fired the drummer and bass player and had their parts re-recorded, as they wouldn't have as much say in the royalties). Do a bit of googling, the whole thing kicked off in about 2012...

Black Sabbath really were the progenitors of the Heavy Metal genre despite the influence of other Hard Rock progenitors like Led Zeppelin, The Coven, Iron Butterfly and Deep Purple( I happen to be fans of these groups as well). While Black Sabbath has always been and always will be one of my top favorites of all time, i grew displeased over the years at the lack of diversity in their set list and always somehow failed to understand the reason behind the stale quality - i would have loved to have seen them play, like i believe many aficionados and hardcore fanaticos would have, material especially off SABOTAGE and NEVER SAY DIE as well as choice tracks from albums already used in their shows...i chose to support them simply because they were Black Sabbath...but lately i truly understood they were fully incapable of going after SNOWBLIND, JUNIOR'S EYES, ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING FROM SABOTAGE ...I said Good-bye to them a long time ago. 3 things have happened: Barnum & Bailey circus has folded its tents and reopened them in the White House, and Ol' Ozzy is actually returning to his own circus of shit now...LONG LIVE Five Finger Death Punch!! lol!!

I grew up with Black Sabbath in the early childhood days of my life. It's actually Black Sabbath with some sprinkles of Krokus and Deep Purple that made me want to learn music. When I got to my teens I started with my lifetime best friend Fred Brown and other friend Bruce Dickinson who together just started playing metal music with other friend Fred Fontaine in our first band ever created spurred on by Black Sabbath. Bruce Dickinson went on to create Iron Maiden and after that Queensrycke. . I went on to play live with John Cafferty and Beaver Brown,Soul Train and Emerson,Lake and Palmer and The Gregg Allmam with the Allmam Brothers Band,Bonnie Rait,Elton John,Michael Jackson and so many others that I've collaborate with music albums and projects.
