@KingChaperail yep Mista Lawang was there as well. I wasn't expecting to see him and so it was a great surprise. Dope show too .. Their chemistry together is unreal

@ Dope. Mista Lawnge is so naturally hilarious. I hope that something comes out of that reunion. That new Redman, and Common/Pete Rock album is really setting the stage back for a progressive rap come back.

@KingChaperail he most definitely is hilarious! But that's a good point with the likes of Pete and common making an album as well as Tip and LL it would be great if they would give us one last album.

I don’t care what anybody says. A wolf in Sheep’s clothing was 5 mic album. The beats were original and on point (Trombone joint is still A1 learning at black high school bands), the raps were smooth, conversational, but hit hard. The Native Tongues were in full effect with Mista Lawnge, and Dres.

Probably one of the best albums of my youth. The last album I'm aware of that did real hard hip hop without the BS tropes. They were always going to have a huge uphill struggle with the direction hip hop was heading at the exclusion of true art led material.

Most definitely. One of the greatest tragedies of hip hop lore. There was an interview that Mista Lawnge did where he explained that the Non fiction album originally had completely different beats that was an evolution from the first, but there were trashed because the label and Dres wanted something “right” not “left”.

It was just the music switching up that most groups or duos,couldn’t keep up with henceforth after BLACK SHEEP,we got MOBB DEEP who almost fell through the cracks because of 4th and Broadway record label‼️ From what I can recall DRES stayed afloat through owning real estate properties,now as for Mr.Lawnge i don’t remember what he put his hands on after the split. But I can tell you in the underground nyc dance scene, (THE CHOICE IS YOURS REVISITED) is used heavily till this day in dance mixes, even LOLA BROOKE used it for one of her many bops‼️

Speaking of Dres..., he tried to transition to Queen Latifah's similarly stunted camp, The Flava Unit. They only had one project together as a collective I believe.

What I don't understand is they fell off with their playful style and sound but groups like De LA Soul and Tribe Called Quest with a similar sound became ultra successful and they had internal conflicts too so why couldn't Black Sheep rise above their's?
@KingChaperail
@KingChaperail 3 күн бұрын
I always felt that they deviated from the Tongues pedigree, and got into that Bronx style of hardcore beats. There was literally none of that dark humor that made them stand out.

I have been watching Dres for a long time, and I feel that he spends more time looking for "what's hot" instead of just being themselves is very evident. NonFiction tried sooo hard to be "street" and it sucked for that reason.
@KingChaperail
@KingChaperail 3 күн бұрын
You know you have a point. Lawnge talked about how the beats for the Nonfiction album was originally different then ones that had, but they were trashed for the reason you gave.

I think homie who made the video underestimate hip hop fans from that era. Yes there were changing landscapes that contributed to the fall of many artists. But hip hop fans as a whole back then was way more open minded, versus the one dimensional simple minded rap fan in this day and age. I was a teen during the Golden age and a young teen at that and I can honestly say if it was hot, younger teens to the older teens. Young adults to older adults would rock with it. That second black sheep album was trash, and hardly anybody even knew they dropped a second album.
