I don't think it's anywhere near optimal (especially compared to the GOAT Huohuo) but for those looking to get some use out of the MC: Using Fire MC as a break/sustain with the Trend of the Universal Market could be fun with the Kafka/Black Swan/Ruan Mei trio. With RM's break bonuses, a break effect fire MC can apply some chunky fire DoTs for Kafka to spread and generate faster arcana stacks The obvious down side is having to try to survive with fire MC as a solo sustain that's putting stats into break instead of tankiness...

But there are also players who will want to run the best characters not because they’re meta slaves but because they are fully understand that HSR is a resource intensive game. We only have so much resources to max out a character and invest in their relics. For folks like us, it doesn’t matter that BS is a good character, she just needs to be among the best. The fact is that BS’ damage is way too backloaded, makes her suboptimal without the likes of Kafka. Sure, BS isn’t trash but that itself is enough for the pragmatic players to stay clear of her banner. “Isn’t trash” pretty much translates to “not among the best”. Here in lies the problem with DoT. While Kafka isn’t a “mandatory” requirement (meaning the game doesn’t mandate you to use Kafka) for DoT teams, she may as well be required because of how much she improves their performance.

As is the case for all DOT characters, Kafka is always a focal point when discussing the team, one of the key discussions being what the DoT character can do without Kafka. The core of Black Swan's utility outside of being a DoT applier is her 3-turn def down on skill. Because her basic attack actually stacks more than her skills, she can play a similar role as Guinafen on top of being a sp bot. The best utlizator of this role is of course someone like Dr. Ratio, so Black Swan can fit into any comp with him by being a subdps, def shredder, and sp bot. You can run a Dr. Ratio, Guinafen, Black Swan, Flex member for a more DoT focus team, swap out Guinafen for Pela/Ruan Mei in case of want both to do serviceable damage, and Tingyun/Asta if you want to focus on Dr Ratio (though at this point, just use another def shred instead of Black Swan). Just what I think on paper of a possible team composition outside of a Kafka DoT comp. Ultimately, her value outside of DoT comp is on how much you value debuff and a 100% uptime down on enemies. Since def down scales with how much you have of it, up to 100%, Black Swan's worth in a team scales proportionally to how much def shred/def down you have in total. And of course, if you hit 90% def shred, then Black Swan isn't particularly worth it over other support since even though pushing that 90% def shred to 100% def shred will be pretty impactful you are wasting 10% of Black Swan's defense down. The problem with hinging Black Swan's utility on her def down is that her def down is not all that strong on it on, and that it's a rather small portion of her kit. This is really why I only mention Dr Ratio. It is because Dr Ratio is currently the only character who benefit from enemies having more debuffs. Because Black Swan offer 2 debuff, Dr Ratio can benefit of that. Almost every dps character in the game that isn't DoT focus simply don't care for her extra DoT debuff. And even Dr Ratio have problem with Black, as Dr Ratio being imaginary means that even his break will not apply any form of DoT for Black Swan to take advantage of.

You don't even need Pela for Black swan, nor any extra source of defense shred besides the 4 piece (+ Kafka S1). Black swan gets like 87.6% def shred at E0S1 and 100% at E6S5, you forgot about the 7 arcana passive that adds 20%: 28.8/40 from S1/S5, 18 from 4p prisoner, 20.8/22 from skill at E0/E3 (or E5 idk), 20 from 7 arcana stacks. And I forgor if you said it but the ult makes it so you don't really need another DoT bleed or burn in the team bc the ult makes the arcana count as all types of DoT for that purpose and also basic attack passive. So yeah, def shred is already powercrept MAXED OUT after less than 1 year 😭 p.s.: with E0S0 Black Swan, you have 58.8% def shred which means E3/5 pela maxes it out without Pearls of Sweat as well, for the -brokies- true f2p players

That's interesting, the idea of pushing action could be great for stacking arcana. But I have a concern about this strategy. Black Swan talent's already got so much damage multiplier and boost from effect hit rate that count as damage bonus, that means we need to get a lot of attack stat that used as a calculation foundation. So if we try to use 4pcs wind instead of 4pcs dot, that would be a loss of valuable attack% source and defense shred. Also we still not sure about Black Swan energy's threshold, is pushing action and stacking energy bonus available (include all characters that give us energy) could be achieving 100% ultimate uptime on Black Swan? Are party's skill point sufficient enough to keeping up this idea? I think main idea of this playstyle is to maintain arcana stack as high as possible via ultimate. The consideration is this strategy would not be optimal in term of damage if we couldn't keep up with ultimate uptime. Still, that's a great idea if that could happen.

Which this strat is purely focusing on stacking arcana, the 4pc wind is much better than the dot set specifically for this matter. The dot set only applies its def shred through direct attack "For every DoT the target enemy is afflicted with, the wearer will ignore 6% of target's DEF when dealing DMG to them", so I don't think it will benefit the arcana overall dmg as much unless it is popped by kafka with dot set. Moreover, her skill is more as a debuffing skill that applies arcana and def shred on the enemy which this debuff on the enemy will increase the arcana dmg, which does not mention anything about popping arcana on her own like kafka. The way I see Blackswan skill is just pela skill but on 3 targets with luka lc on her. Overall the point is just stacking arcana as much as possible to increase the dmg of the arcana that then later triggered by kafka or the enemy's turn and with extra speed to make up sp and more er. Do keep in mind that blackswan skill is 3 targets aoe unlike pela single target. I just mention this incase someone forget how energy works as I had quite sometime getting energy with clara skill on gepard alone instead of waiting for the summons and back, you know how much energy pela gets with tutorial lc As for the why I suggest this is because hsr devs limited arcana stacks to 50. In my perspective the boss would have already dead before you reach half of that in SU because I heard it will be too op and this could potentially happen when they test her in SU that it is possible to reach over 50 stacks. So just in a normal or endgame scenario like MOC 10-12, how many stacks can be applied. I'm looking at about >12 stacks starting with 5 stacks already which in total >17 on the enemy with her ult at e0 along with kafka, welt or mei, and huohuo while enemy's toughness bar broken As there's nothing certain about this but atleast I want to see if it's viable or actually better way to build her in a kafka team. Again, we just need ehr and atk% for the arcana dmg then kafka will be the one pops it so 4pc wind with er rope and tutorial lc, forgot to mention her ult increase enemy dot dmg taken by 25% for 2 turn so yeah, if we have pela 2 turn ult, why not blackswan?

I will need to see the in game numbers but I just feel since BS has so much dmg percent in her kit and she is running EHR body and all of her best lightcone options have EHR but not atk%, I feel that sacrificing atk% rope for err might be a pretty big damage loss. Her dps is so high that how many times are you going to burst anyways in MOC? I feel like you can likely clear a wave in 1 burst, or possibly clear the first wave with no burst and save it for the 2nd side. But in pure fiction then maybe err could be better

EHR body is not mandatory. It helps her reach her cap, but depending on your relics, you could run an Atk% body. Boots could also be atk% if you're able to hit 134 speed with or without Mei or Asta. Orb could be substituted as Atk% since she gets 72% damage bonus from her EHR conversion. Even more bonus if Mei is on the team. Not sure if it is as good as Wind%, but it could be close in damage. So ERR rope could be an option depending on her relics and LC. Not sure if it is worth it overall though.

Nah you can easily get a decent amount of atk from subs. Bs ehr should cap at 120%. If you can get an err rope with 4-7 spd, rest of the rolls going into ehr/atk you'll be fine. Use ehr orb set as well.

I'm very curious how the future of DoT 5*s is going to look, considering Kafka's existence. They're kinda pigeonholed themselves into balancing every new DoT unit with Kafka in mind, to the point where it almost feels like Kafka's very existence as a universal DoT detonator necessitates a nerf to every future DoT unit. I pulled Kafka just to have her for Black Swan and future teams, so it WOULD be in my best personal interest for her to be strong as long as possible, but it does feel very strange knowing that every future DoT unit design is constrained by the possibility of being "too strong" because of Kafka. The issue arises because DoT in a turn based game usually needs to be crazy strong to keep up with normal DPS, because of how backloaded it is, but if Hoyoverse makes a new DoT unit strong enough to be powerful WITHOUT Kafka and still lean into the DoT aspect, they're effectively forced to shoehorn in a reason why should wouldn't work with Kafka, or Kafka will make them broken. It's definitely going to be annoying for new players.

Why is the damage being backloaded matter at all? the more turns she gets before the enemy turn comes up the more stack she gets and the bigger the explosion is when the enemy turn does come around I don’t see how this is a disadvantage unless you are using bronya + a hyper carry that can go multiple times from her skill if somebody could explain that would be great because yeah obviously dots go off when the enemy turn happens how is that a bad thing

Probably cause the moc cycles will be bit longer compared to other dominant teams. Like, The enemy doesnt need a turn if its already dead before its turn. Basically, Without Kafka dot teams are generally slower than other teams.

In a more general sense, it matters for decision-making. For instance, with the DoT on an enemy, you can’t truly be sure if that enemy is alive or dead by the time their turn exists, while a frontloaded character gives that information right away. DoT can sometimes lead to inefficiencies in how you spread your damage among enemies compared to regular DPS characters for that purpose. Not saying it’s bad, this is just an example where it matters to a degree.

Backloaded sometimes won't make it in time when you care about the amount of cycles. For example, in pure fiction (Max 4 cycles), there's 10 stack Lightning Lord that like 7 action value away from taking action before 4 cycles mark, which end up don't do damage. To that extend, if your enemy is slow, they may end up not taking damage from Black Swan Arcana because their next turn is already above cycle 4 of pure fiction or you spent extra cycles (end up with 11 for example instead of finishing on 10) to do finishing on MoC. But technically, you can try advance forward your enemy by using consistent freeze. We just don't have such unit yet.

If youre going for faster clear in MoC or PF then yes, it does matter, especially with DoT. With DoT they deal dmg when the enemies gets their turn, and this is the issue; unless the enemies, especially the elites, dies on their very first turn (which is most likely not possible unless youre at E6) it'll take more than 2-3 of their turns before dying, and that may take 2-3 cycles, and we have 2 waves. That is an issue in MoC or PF because to 3* a stage you need to clear within 10 total cycles Here comes the argument: why bother investing on a backloaded dps, when you couldve invest on a frontloaded dps instead? Their dmg could be similar but frontloaded dps are better simply because of, well, frontloaded dmg

I don't think so, the effect still the same. On the case that you said, the difference only is amount of percentage. In theory, debuff will not stack and the change only affect to debuff percentage replace.

For me, pulling for Kafka's LC is the best option. Actually, I was in the same situation in my account, and got Kafka's LC. Kafka's LC brings so much value. It facilitates everything both for Kafka and the whole DOT team. If you already have Eyes of the prey, there's not such reason to spend your limited jades on Black Swan's lightcone, let alone getting it over Kafka's. And, of course, everything that I just said was assuming that you already have Kafka. If not, I would reccomend getting her first. I suggest the following priority order: Kafka > Kafka's LC > Black Swan > Black Swan's LC.

Yellovv also has a simulation that puts Sampo E6S5 about 10% behind Kafka E0S1 against 3 enemies with universal weaknesses (10% team dps). If the enemy is only weak to wind Sampo might be straight up better.

As much as I prefer Black Swan because her design is peak, Sampo is hella underrated and definitely can be played alongside Black Swan vs wind weak bosses (notably one of the new bosses in 2.0)

She would at least want to be faster than most enemies, so 120 would be important. At that point though, you might as well use speed boots to try to get to 134 to have 2 turns and be faster than every enemy. I think ideally if she is paired with Mei, she could get to 134 speed using atk% boots. Or if you just have cracked relics and have 134 speed with just sub stats lol

I don't exactly know the math behind it. I believe she has a 120 cost ultimate, so if she starts with 60, would skill+basic get her ult or would it be slightly off? Her skill should give 36 energy and basic would be 24 with the 19.8% ERR. Is that right?
