Nice video! I love picking trumpets. In WI the white oak are their favorite tree buddies. Moss and grassy areas..land yes in leaf litter too all near the trees. Just picked a bunch today…we have had a ton of rain here and they are a week early.

This was super helpful. I have been looking for these mostly in southeast Michigan for a long time with no luck. How would you say the taste compares to yellow or golden chanterelles?

Old growth oak is where I find them and the flavor is much better than yellow chants ( aside from soups)

@@FoundYouForaging There is very little old growth forest down here so that makes sense. Thanks for the tip.

Sandy soil and on the hills, on my videos I found a motherload of black trumpets but back then I'm not so good at recording it. It smells really good.

I really enjoy eating these just lightly cooked. I have dehydrated and I have frozen . The dehydrated don't retain their flavor as well as frozen . How do you preserve the excess you find ? Also I'm quite jealous of the pine mushrooms you find. I have never found them . Each season I do look though. Hopefully in the upcoming season I will.

@@FoundYouForaging I dry mine in the sun and it doesn't retain it very well either. That's a false pine mushrooms but it edible also and some how we found alot this year.
