It is strange to see kids calling themselves emo, back then you would never label yourself emo/scene for fear they would come after you and call you a poser or hate you. Crazy lol now you can be whatever you want 🙂 I think many people are taking it personally or maybe misunderstanding my comment? ... What I meant is, back in MySpace days or 00's when i was still in school a lot of bullying came from other emos/ scene kids bullying others, saying they weren't "emo/ scene" enough. Not to mention other people in school including teachers were not very kind. Somewhat judgemental when it came to outcasts/alternative/ edgy kids. People always telling you your interests were just a phase. It seems now more people embrace it and understand it's a music and fashion subculture. Now with other fashion styles and music emerging you get to pick what you want to listen to and how you want dress. Now there's online communities that you can find support and they like bands you like and they share interest. Back then there wasn't many cliques to pick from, all my emo friends lived in other towns :/ others seemed afraid to say they liked certain things, and it felt lonely. It seemed like the internet was a bit more vile then, and people were not always kind, some still aren't. Anyways what I meant was it seems you can find more people embracing emo and it's nice. It feels good to know there's a community that likes the music and fashion and are not afraid to be themselves. Feels less depressing in my personal opinion to know someone gets it.

Honestly similar, I was in an abusive relationship from 16yrs old to 17yrs old. I didn’t have any self identity I was who he wanted to be, my teacher did what she could to separate us so she made me her computer art class student teacher and let me do what ever I wanted. I started looking up music my sister listened to and found this exact song, it was finally something I liked. I listened to this exact song over and over again, then more of their music and found bands I enjoyed. Man, I may only be a teenager and was a little kid when this song was made, but this song has touched me in a way that no song ever could. I get picked on a lot in school with a lot of fighting in my family, and ever since I found out about this song I have never felt so confident! I learned that the lead singer, Andy too had gotten bullied when he was younger but still chased his dreams and from that moment I realized that my bullies were full of shit, not me and if he could pursue his dreams I could too!
