As much as people joke about how emo this song is, I really think the lyrics are genius. They're not just about the pain of his loss (which btw, this song is about his grandma Helen passing), they're actively talking about how much of a joy she was to everyone around her, how much just one person gave to this world. Not just to him either, but to the entire crowd attending the funeral. The scene of her getting out of her coffin, the world frozen to her as a ghost, giving one last goodbye to everyone who loved her.

I am 43yo and I was too old for emo. In fact, I listen Black Metal/Doom Metal since 1998. When "dark" emo came popular, "normal people" mixed up Black/Doom Metalheads (minus the eyeliners and the black nails polish) for Emo kids. It wasn't a great time anymore to be Black/Doom Metalhead. But, in that time, I always thought this song (Helena) was a really good song even it's emo.

Honestly, this band means so much to me. I've been listening to them for a few years now. (My parents wouldn't let me at first) This band has encouraged me to get up and keep going even when I have nothing left, not to loose hope, its okay to be scared, its okay to be hurt, but you have to get back up and watch the people get what they deserve weather its good or bad. I am now here because I was having a rough day and this song randomly popped into my mind. feels so weird realising how far I've come and matured since then, and understanding in retrospect how much these bands helped me get through some of those fucked up times in my life.. just wanted to pop in the comments and say hang in there to any scared and depressed teen that's listening to this song right now crying on their bedroom floor. you are never alone and it's going to get better. no matter how bleak it seems to be.
@kenshinaa6 жыл бұрын
I couldn't have said better. What a long journey for me too since I used to listen to this song, again, again and again."You are never alone and it's going to get better". I definitely agree. Keep hope, stay safe, Life is worth living.

No matter what, there will always be killjoys We have EMO COMIC BOOKS We have the guts to say we still love them! Even though things would be better if they stayed, we must carry on this way We will probably force our children to listen to MCR because we are Fabulous Killjoys Though they're dead and gone believe me, their memory will carry on.
