This video showcases a small episode in the Lomako family. While mother Tamidol was eating, mischievous daughter Nala hited her on the back, which immediately displeased the silverback gorilla. The angry silverback attacked Nala twice, creating a tense and uneasy scene. At that moment, brother Mosi stepped in, bravely protecting and gently comforting his sister.

That's so good that this family is allowed to stay together in spite of a new silverback. Here in the states, this family would have been split apart and sent to multiple zoos.

It's terrible that in Europe these zoo's are castrating these males. The testing done has only shown negative impacts, especially with their health (castrating them messes up their development and they look so pitiful because their not able to produce the levels of hormones they should be, and this one already looks like he's suffering some serious Osteoporosis already-which is one of the side effects of castrating a male gorilla!) Bachelor groups all over the world are thriving and at least then they have the hope of eventually finding a female group. But mutilating an endangered species is just easier for them and should be stopped immediately, not praised. Just look at them!

@@AllThingsGorilla They won't all get families unfortunately. There are not enough zoos. We have dozens of bachelor groups and probably 100 or more silverbacks waiting to be placed. Some of these guys have been in bachelor groups for 10 years or more. Why not let them stay with their siblings as long as possible.

@dmoore2732 Male gorillas face a direct dilemma upon reaching adulthood: whether to leave their natal family, similar to adult male lions. If they remain within the troop after reaching maturity, they may be perceived as a threat by the silverback and could be attacked for the protection of females. Leaving voluntarily or being castrated becomes a matter of choice. However, there are now increasingly more bachelor troops where male gorillas live together without needing to be castrated, potentially growing into handsome silverbacks.🫶♥️🦍🙏🙏🙏

@@AllThingsGorilla I see your point. They can be in danger in bachelor groups as well. There have been a few cases where a non-dominant male was bullied to death. I just wish zoos would transfer the male again if he is in a bad situation. Mosi doesn't seem like the docile type, though.

I try my best to just think 🤔 about how happy the gorilla’s family troops look together ❤❤❤❤ and always try to stay positive but WTH Mosi should have never been done that way. And all that has to STOP 🛑. He would be happy and healthy in a bachelors group/troop also😢😢😢😢😢

Agreed 100%. It's truly unfair to HIM that a decision made by humans will forever prevent him from becoming the silverback he was meant to be. I believe there is another male in this troop that is in the same situation. It's really very sad. The zoos responsibility is to take care of them which does NOT include preventing them from becoming silverbacks.

Absolutely agree I find this family too upsetting to watch, I alternate between being angry and heartbroken when I look at what happened with Loango and Mosi. I also worry about about Tamidol's new baby boy. They castrated Shufai, Lopes brother at Twycross in the UK, the decision was made at his birth apparently. Yes please STOP this, we have no right to deprive these animals of their full potential.

There's a documentary called Harambe. It focuses on Harambe's death, but it also goes in depth about the ratio of male gorillas being born. Basically the zoo's in Europe will either neuter the male gorillas or cull them. It upset me so bad that I couldn't watch videos of the babies for a long time especially Ringo because its really hard to know what some zoo's will do.

Here's some good news. The Krefeld Zoo in Germany is opening a new facility where they'll create a bachelor group for young male gorillas. This way, adult males can stay near their parents and avoid being neutered. I hope this is the start of a more humane approach in European zoos.

Is there something different about their faces/eyes? I can't articulate what it is exactly, maybe it's the depth/shape of the brow, but if I compare this troop to other troops, this one seems to stand out more uniquely....their eyes somehow seem more expressive than the norm. Although my idea of 'norm' is based on a very small sample size of like 4 or 5 troops, which is hardly statistically significant lol

I noticed the same thing. There is an overly bred line of gorilla genes in Europe which has caused A LOT of diversity issues. Zoo pros call it the Appenhaul line. I guess the over breeding of one line started there and spread throughout Europe. So many of the gorillas we see look so similar. Except 😅Tamidol’s father (Bitam) is wild caught and her mother (Baby Doll) was born at Howletts. It seems that none of this troop is part of the Apenhaul Line. I hope that helps 🤷‍♀️

@@shawna6683 It would depend on if the Apenheul line refers to Bongo or Jambo. Bongo had around 25 kids and part of this troop does descend from that line. Mosi, Nala, and Zola are his grandchildren and Loango is his son. Tayari at the Taipei zoo is also Bongo's granddaughter.

No, you're confused. The male gorillas besides the silver back. Look the way that you do because they have Have been castrated I can't 80. Hunter balls cut off before they could go through puberty. Which almost is never done? That's why they look, it's so unique. You don't see it anywhere else. What's up a long time ago and I think all of those guillas have died. It's so cruel that's why. There is indeed no way to justify such cruel behavior. Humans, who pride themselves on being civilized, have done barbaric things to these beautiful creatures, encroaching on their homes and slaughtering their companions. Ultimately, it is humans who, based on their own will, decide how these animals live. But who gave humans that right? The decision is not made by a particular zoo, but by the policymakers who establish these cruel rules.🫶🦍🙏🙏🙏
