Good morning John. Glad to see you back in the shop. I can sympathize with your back issues if others can't understand that and complain about not getting a hook last Sunday they need to realize you do the videos as a favor to the blacksmith community and be thankful for that and not get upset if you miss one. We all get under the weather from time to time. Thanks again for sharing your wisdom and knowledge.

I miss the hook of the week series. Really wish you'd bring it back in some form or another. Surely there's another bucket of scraps there needing to be made into hooks! It's very inspiring and gets my creative juices flowing to see what you do with your scrap and what I could do with my own!

John, I'm glad you are feeling better. Last week I was just a little disappointed there was no hook of the week but I'm sure most people in my boat got over it. It is far more important for you to watch your health. I will use concepts from this plant hook for my mother's house. Her house will require the cross piece to be shorter and I may figure out how the make a square or round bracket with a lap joint and rivet. Thank you again and I am looking forward to your next video.

Glad you're back in the forge again. A piece of advice I wish I'd got when I was a kid, look after your back because you only have one and it can't be replaced........ yet........ *fingers crossed that they can do it in my life time* (I have juvenile arthritis and a compression fracture to a vertebra..... that I didn't tell anyone about when I crushed it!) For the people who like to compain about missed video's, you could film a spare that can be uploaded if needed. Or just ignore the grumps in the world. For your KZbin Play Button, could you mount it where people can see it, please? I'm thinking under your Bear Warning sign on the wall behind your anvil. And once again, congrats on the mile stone 😊👍👍👍👍

The thing that I, personally, like most about pipe stock is that it makes a fantastic piece of flat stock if you were to cut/grind/ chisel it down the weld line that keeps the tubing together. I have made a lovely candle holder from such sheet metal, due to the fact I don't really get my hands on decently gauged sheet stock that I want.

Glad your feeling better. I recently had 2 )6 disc cervical caging surgeries. I prefer chiropractic and natural pain relief. Acupuncture works great too. If you are near a school for acupuncture, sometimes they offer free services at a church helping homeless, liw income etc. But they offer all services done by students but supervised by a pro. I never hurt my knee until a month before I went there. Sand and knees don't go together.. lol. After the 1st visit I felt better but I was skeptical, then the 2nd x I felt way way better, then the 3rd x my knee totally stopped hurting. During the 2nd and 3rd vistas they also did a bit on my neck and mack. Oh wow! . Way way better then any medication.. lol. You get high because you feel great. I like them all, they all hv dif things they help. Luckily, the 2 that worked on me were also MMA fighters. Seriously.. lol. They wanted to learn pain relief without drugs.. plus the school was flexible.

Ok. Here's a thought: Instead of "Hook of the Week" ... Sunday could be "One Day Project of the Week". Simple projects (e.g., hooks, screws, nails, jigs, bottle openers, cork screws, etc.). Something that would take ME an entire week-but a skilled smith like yourself, could do in a single session. You could still empty your buckets of treasures, but branch out with different projects. Wednesday and/or Friday could be devoted to bigger projects. Something that takes several sessions (e.g., hammer heads, knife blades, complicated tools, fancy light fixtures, etc.). (Just a thought.) (Also, congratulations on the 100,000.)

hey there Black Bear Forge, gotta say i like you waaaay better than alex steel, and i curious is that a Nimba anvil in the backround at about 5:11. if so how does it compare to 20th century Peter Wright wrought iron anvil.
@BlackBearForge4 жыл бұрын
That is actually my wifes anvil, even though she spends her time weaving and doesn't blacksmith anymore. its 110KG and came from Old World Anvils. I have thought about putting it in for my main anvil since its in way better shape and i do like the option of the square horn. In the long run it may be a better anvil than the old wrought anvil.

@BlackBearForge4 жыл бұрын
No reason it wouldn't work in 1/4" material. what Width material are you using?

Width wise would be approximately 30mm but am open to suggestions?

Tell jerry not to get both shoulders at once. A friend did that to get it all over with at one time. He said it was a bad idea because he couldn't wipe his own butt. He recomended to us to do one at a time. Ive had one rebuilt and that was a hassle enough. He was a fireman so you know that advice made the grapevine.
