This new model sports the latest version of BlackBerry OS 7 and Near Field Communication (NFC) to bring it right up to date. I just picked up one of these from a mate for $40 CAD (had a broken charging port), it's currently at my work for repairs by one of our service technicians. I also bought new plastics on eBay for it for $30. All totaled I only paid $110 for a normally $300+ handset. I'm so excited to replace my Curve 9300 when it's all fixed up.

I'm a iPhone guy, switched from Android, so in no way am I a BB fanboy. But more competition makes for better phones and technology in the market, and RIM is still third (far third) in the market. I used to be a Blackberry fan, been saving up for a brand spankin' new BOLD 9900, then I saw the Galaxy Nexus that my friend was using. It gave me second thoughts, now just saving a couple more bucks, I figured: Why the hell would I want to spend $600 on a phone that's loaded with antique hardware (bold 9900) and CRAPPY APPS when I can purchase a phone that's TWICE (or more) as better with everything? The only thing that held me back? The keyboard, no more, no less. RIM's dying anyway.

Neve seen so many stupid comments on an unboxing video. I think Mr Dave did a grand job. Until recently I had a blackberry bold, it was a brilliant phone, and I loved it. I want RIM to continue, but as sexy as their phones look, they do not have the power to compete with a lot of other smartphones on the market.

@shulx2006 I've to argue with you. Yes, RIM is quite boring with their design, but don't say they play it safe. They tried the Storm, didn't work. They tried the Torch, that sort of turned out good but then people starting seeing how it sucked so basically didn't work, and now they're doing the Porche Design, which in my opinion is compellingly shitty and dumb. So they see that this is the only form factor that works. Thats why they mostly use it. But I do agree with you. RIM isn't very creative

BlackBerrys don't have the apps of Android and iOS but that's pretty much it. For pretty much everything else, RIM does a great job. The browser is more than usable now, great hardware design and BlackBerrys work amazingly at being a phone. So what if its not dual core with a 1 gb of ram, they still work well and fast.

@ElshamyWalid 512MB of memory (RAM) is pretty much standard on phones today. Memory and storage have different meanings. The iphone 4s has 512MB of memory and has at least 16GB of storage depending on the model size...get it???

@cubano07x Whey are not. It is much safer then other plugs because the top ground/earth pin is longer then the other pins and has to go in the socket first to expose the live and neutral pins making it harder for people to electrocute themselves.

A few ideas would be downsizing the company to save money, have a new design and marketing team brought in, if BB is going to always be behind, than skip a step and start making only 4G phones, make quadcore phones, have a keyboard classic, but start heading into full touchscreens, QNX is promising but start perparing it the future not just to get it out... I would love to help them.

R.I.M. made a BIG mistake by releasing the Blackberry Playbook first. They should have taken the software and format and put it on a phone FIRST, then gone to the pad after a few months. The fact that they have no phone using the Playbook's interface is a massive mistake. They probably won't survive - the Playbook has been on sale at less than half price for over two months!
