My god, I remember when i had several blackberries. It was difficult moving to a touch screen keyboard. This review brings back so many memories.

@MetalheadBuser9 жыл бұрын
Jimmy Reynolds Yes they are. You can download and install the Amazon App shop. Still quite limited, but nevertheless many great apps. And I think it's also possible to install the Google Play Store, but I don't know how, I am not using a Blackberry phone.
@richjay15659 жыл бұрын
Jimmy Reynolds yes Jimmy, have a look on KZbin for videos on installing 'snap' it is very simple. You could just install the play store directly but I prefer using snap for Android apps. Also the amazon appstore comes with bb 10.3 os.

Been using the passport for 3 months. Your assessment of the device is spot on. I get an incredible amount of work done on it during the day, so I can put it away at the end of the day and enjoy my Android device in the evening and weekend. I'm so good on the keyboard that I use it as a bluetooth keyboard and touch pad for my macbook pro and surface. Great post user experience follow up.

Just a couple things you missed. 1. The Amazon Appstore comes preloaded for Android Apps. 2. You can natively install Android APK's and other App Stores like Atoide and 1Mobile 3. There are solutions to access the Google Play Store but require technical knowledge 4. The keyboard lets you flick suggested words into your message as you type. I noticed you were typing normally.

I've had the passport for 5 months. I love smartphones and have had lots of them. I came from Lumia 1520 and Droid Turbo to my Passport. It took me a good 6 weeks to really appreciate what a great device it is. The Os really is superb and makes so much more sense than all of the others in the way it flows. The quality of this machine is the best you will find. The call quality can't be beat and speakers are loud and clear. I picked up a G4 last week because I wasn't super happy with the passport camera, but it's actually darn good compared to the G4. But I'm back to my passport because everything else is superior. I use it for everything and couldn't be happier...

I must say..... I get very bored with smart phones very quickly. I've been all through the iphone and samsung ranges!! Also included a couple of HTCs along the way! BUT!!! The BlackBerry Passport is by far the most interesting, different, unusual phone out there at the moment. I'm into my second year with it (unheard of for me) everytime you pick it up it feels brand new and interesting all over again! It does attract attention when you put it on the table and you have to explain it time and time again to the 'Rigid' Iphone users who wouldn't dream of drifting away from the 'norm'. Would I replace my passport????? YES!! With the next one that comes along!! Well done blackberry, the passport is a master piece...!!
@DBIIJ0U8 жыл бұрын
good for you, but I don't think you utilise android to its potential, if you did you would enjoy a Samsung device alot more.
@AndroidVageta18 жыл бұрын
Not really but it's all personal preference. To me it's not about what Android can do it's about what the Passport already does do. No amount of tweaks will add a physical keyboard or real time multitasking with ALL apps (not just a select few like it is on Android). No tweak is going to add an awesome screen that's perfect for texting and web browsing. No change to Android will add powerful and great sounding stereo speakers. So yes, Android is customizable and the hardware that goes along with it can be very impressive but there's things that the BB OS and Passport hardware have that Android just simply cannot emulate.
@DBIIJ0U8 жыл бұрын
+Logical Reason True, but he states that he got bored with android devices quickly, and likes the passport purely for its "new" feel when he picks it up, fair enough he enjoys the passport's features, but how can an OS and phone that has the most variety out of all the operating systems within smartphones be slated for the particular reason if becoming repetitive, UNLESS the user does not know how to utilise said OS. That was my original point.
@DBIIJ0U8 жыл бұрын
Igor K .. Android phones aren't functional at all, even though they hold the biggest market share of smartphones.. good argument.
@DBIIJ0U8 жыл бұрын
That is an argument based on opinion, the iPhone isn't stress free unless it works flawlessly, I know a lot of users suffering from planned obsolescence from devices that costs at least 400 pounds at the time of purchase and devices from the same period from android (Nexus 4 and Note 3) that work FLAWLESSLY, you also cannot state arguments of nothing supporting android "until now" as you've answered your own debate. Period Samsung Apple 2015Q2 21.4% 13.9% 2014Q2 24.8% 11.6% 2013Q2 31.9% 12.9% 2012Q2 32.2% 16.6% I'm not quite sure what research you've been doing but Samsung devices (alone) have more market share than apple, the popular devices among their portfolio, costing as much as the iPhone, it's clear you are not even capable of secondary research that you can acquire in seconds, so it's no wonder you are tech illiterate and cannot handle an android device; it's fair enough people have personal preference, but when you state stupid arguments and argue against devices for invalid reasons, you're a fucking idiot.
@MatthewJFitzpatrick9 жыл бұрын
I've had the BlackBerry Passport since February and absolutely love it! One thing you also forgot to point out which I love is the swipe gestures on the keyboard for auto word completion as you're typing which really brings the physical keyboard to a whole other level! It really is so much faster and better and completely blows the other competition away from a productivity view. The only thing I'm slightly upset about is they just released the new BlackBerry Passport Silver Edition which looks absolutely stunning and beautiful and so many ways and some nice little modifications which all add up for that much more of a beautiful and pleasing experience! I just can't justify spending another $550 after spending that six months ago unless any takers would like to buy my slightly used one (excellent condition - it hasn't seen a day without a case on it) at a great and reduced price! LOL

I think gaming is perfectly fine on the Passport, and you didn't mention that there are two native BlackBerry Instagram clients, nor did you mention that the vast majority of Android apps run great and can be installed directly. +Evelina Naph You're right... keep finding new keyboard gestures... swipe down brings up the numbers and symbols, second swipe down shows another symbol screen, tap on the screen the symbols stay, use the associated physical key and it vanishes to leave the open screen... which is why the overall screen space is bigger than other devices because you haven't got those pinky's covering the display:)

I had some cheap chinese phone after but it broke and I am thinking about getting new phone and I am highly considering getting BB. I dont play any games or anythig, pretty much use it for SMS, FB and making calls, so I dont really need huge app store. However, I am a bit afraid of BB 0S since I never had it. I know that there used to be some monthly fees but as far as I know they were removed. BB Prim looks also interesting and it might be what I look for as it has android but it is way too expensive for me and well, it was always my dream to own BB phone since the time I was 8 lol, maybe dream will come true soon

I agree that Passport is excellent, after four months' usage. Here's what Karl missed: * there are two Instagram replacement apps available, as well as Amazon AppStore - most android apps can be loaded via .apk file, and it's easy and pretty safe. * battery life is usually well over a day, can go multiple days if you lightly use it * sucker is pretty heavy. Heavy means solid and durable. I believe I will have this still when iPhone twelve comes out. * Blackberry Blend (software on the phone) enables secure and full messaging usage from any computer where you're logged in - potentially you can get rid of MS Outlook. * Blackberry Keeper saves all your passwords on your phone, meaning you only need one password for all your stuff (though you need to figure out browser integration for when you're on a computer - potentially you can stop paying for a password manager * encryption is simple, but for the super-secure and super-private you will want Enterprise software package. Still, BB's basic software is probably the most private (ie best) available until you learn to code. * you're going to need a new GPS mount for this in your car :( * what did I miss, fellow fans?

Well I went from an iphone which I really don't have anything bad to say about. The pros of the passport are the screen. It's awesome. The camera is great. Once you get used to the keyboard it's awesome to use and the os is seemless and speedy and works awesome. Multitasking is great. Phone calls are clear and loud. The speakers are stereo and are the loudest I've ever heard on a phone. Only negative I guess would be the learning curve on how to get all the android apps you may want. The amazon store has a lot but you can get others from 1market or sideload them from a computer. I have all the apps I want now and they all work great. Except for google1. I haven't loaded that yet. I really love everything about the phone. It's a joy to use. I do wish BlackBerry had a native music download app tho. I got amazon mp3 to work but it's not as good as on my iPhone.

Just purchased this from AT&T and really love this phone. You can definitely download a third party app for instagram from Blackberry world, it has the same, or even better, futures as the original one; it's called IGrann and there's also a new one called Insta10. You can also side load apk files (apps) from your Passport browser, download them directly from the Amazon app store that comes pre-installed with it, and also, there's another app store called 1MobileMarket apk file that you can download through the phone browser and install it on any BlackBerry 10. App gap is not an issue anymore. **Stop miss informing people that BlackBerry doesn't provide certain apps when it does, thanks to its amazing OS.

I bought a Passport a few days ago, but Im currently waiting for my case for it. Otherwise I would using it already. As what I can say from my experience with it, the touch keyboard is a bit odd to handle. It takes some time getting used to it. Im using currently a Classic, so im missing Keys on my Passport, which bothers me a bit. Besides this I like the unusual and truly unique shape and of course the BB features of productivity. I never installed a game on my phones and I dont need such social apps. The first thing I deleted was the spyware of Mark de Zuck (Facebook), which don't belong on a BB phone for me. For friends Im using the BB Messenger. The Hub is a very good thing, which im using all the day for my emails. Sadly some services will stop at the end of 2019 as I heard (BB messenger and I believe I heard something about the app store as well). So BB gives their last generation of phones the death-stab : (

It runs just as well or better (giving more options w/ photos) than the Instagram app on my iPad. you are also able to download apps from the Amazon App Store (pre-installed) and Snap for Google Play (must be sideloaded). Just thought I'd share because this review doesn't do the Passport or other BB10 justice in the area of apps. Overall, you did well demonstrating some of BB10's productivity features. I bought my bb passport in 2019.. I love the design of passport.. 👌 .. i don't know why bb discontinued There own OS..

Lack of 3rd Party app support. Most didn’t wanna bother making apps for an OS with such a tiny market share.

I got a question for passport users coming from a android or apple high data usage user. What was the difference on your data usage from your previous smartphones vs the BlackBerry passport?

like in older BB-OS-7 we need to put BIS or BES plans to access Internet, BBM, and email, will one require the same in Passport?

The amazon store is built right in the bb10 software. I had instagram from Mobile1 app store but i like the Igran plus app better. Good review it certainly isn't for everyone!!

Generally love the Passport, but a bit disappointed that there is inconsistency between various apps. Example, to exit some apps you simply swipe up, others have a < button in bottom left corner, others have cancel in top left. Were they written by 3 different teams? Battery life is tremendous. Hub that consolidates all messages in one place is excellent.

+Brian King Really?! I love the swipe up. If an app on iOS or Android freezes, you HAVE to wait for it to process. The swipe up is like a Windows task manager and you can easily reset and restart.

+Bryan P you need to re-read my comment "Generally love the passport... but there is inconsistency". Never used an Apple or an Android and possibly never will so can't compare. I'm a systems developer so know how software SHOULD work to make life easier for users. The Passport could be even better with a few more adjustments - could take it from 8.5 out of 10 to a 9.75!!

Hey Karl, between IPhone 6 & BlackBerry Passport, which one will you choose as your daily driver and a productive device.?

Hi ! Just wondering, have you (or someone) found the "auto delete" of the SMS? I've had like A LOT of SMS in one conversation and that made my BB lag and crash. I had to reset the phone.

It wasn't a full in depth video...it was good :) but still, you forgot to mention the Amazon appstore which is preloaded, comes with a lot of games. Instagram is available but in a third party app i.e igrann. Also You can download instagram. The only social network I have not got to work was Snapchat, everything else I have had worked :)

+GiMMiX you can and could since software update 10.3 download android apps. There is even a way to make the play store and google play services work on BB10. Just search the Crackberry Forums for that.

hey karl im just aiming for a phone that is different from the mainstream stuff and this is caught my eye was wondering my ideas for using a phone will be gps/youtube/facebookmessager "maybe"/ texting and calling for them basic things how does this phone handle those i dont care about games ill save that for when im at home lol
@terracethornhill7 жыл бұрын
It does all the basic stuff well. Has native GPS and FM radio. The KZbin app is just a link to YT's mobile site, but it plays videos fine. There's a FB app, but I don't use it, so I can't tell you how good it is. Comes with 'MS Docs To Go' and can transfer files back and forth with Windows 10, including pics, movies and music.
