Sean Kelly recommended your channel, and I've been watching for a couple of days. I want to say Thank You so much! This type of thinking really helps me. I'm a wheelchair bound medically challenged person. I have to carry an excess of poundage with me to survive on the day to day. Your video helped me to rethink how I carry what I carry to survive. Bless you and yours.

I really like my Blackbird haversack. It is very useful for most of my outdoor activities. My wife calls it my "purse."😁 Your continuing evolution of how to carry gear in this bag is interesting and helpful.

At 13:57 you pull out a “ditty bag from a previous project “. I recognize that bag from your other videos as the stuff sack for your Onewind Poncho. IMHO you should’ve just stuffed that slippery poncho into that and kept your ridge line separate and readily accessible because if it started to rain and you needed an expedient shelter the ridge line would be deployed first, then the poncho and stakes. Thanks for your videos, I enjoy them. In fact, because of your videos I just ordered a Onewind poncho to replace the bulkier one that I now carry. Hooyah!

i am very happy with my poncho it has come in handy several times
@jem62053 жыл бұрын
That's the first thing that I did when I got the sack. I put everything small on the top and big stuff in the main bag like shelter. I then found that by making a small bedroll for my quick shelter system and tieing it on the outside bottom is a better option for quick removal instead of digging for it in the bag. Tip light locking carabiners are your friend for a quick system; else, quick-release ties are acceptable. I now only have food and quick-grab items in the main bag, like a drink/snack bag, laptop, and cables. Plus, I can use it around the house and in my yard or put it in my vehicle when I go out. Just hitch the shelter system when you may need it on quick hikes.

Got the one wind poncho when I saw you review it, good kit. I keep mine in the stuff sack like the empty bag you had there, right on top so I can get to it quickly if a thunder boomer gets me. Cheers

Blackie, look into the "Storacells" on amazon for carrying your batteries. I HIGHLY recommend them for any pack. I found them this past Christmas looking for stocking stuffers

Blackie - Interesting gear. I recommend you put your spare batteries in a prescription bottle or tape over the ends. If the batteries get fouled in the the safety pins they could short out, causing a electrical fire or at least go dead. It seems unlikely, but it's never a good idea to give Murphy an invitation. I understand wrapping your rain poncho tight to for a tighter pack job, but I always kept my poncho on top, because I'm not dumping out my bag if I get caught in a sudden down pour. Of course the basic principle applies, your bag, your way. Stay crafty.

Great one Blackie, thanks. One thing, though. I would be a little worried that the stakes may at some point wear a hole in the bottom of the bag. I have one of the first run of Blackbirds, and I wouldn’t want to ruin it. Maybe put them in a narrow bag with a reinforced bottom.

In addition to rapping electrical tape on your bic lighter you should try rapping your spare batteries with electrical tape over the + and - terminals to prevent accidental discharge of the batteries.

I like the set up and bag am wondering what it is made of and where I can get one I am a South paw ( left handed ) man so I am looking for something like this. Also does it come in wood land camouflage? Have an idea with a back pack ( 40 liter pack with a flap type lid simular project to yours that you did with a hacer sack and backpack that I want to try. Can you help me out. Also please keep up the good work I learn something new almost every time I watch you blogs/ channel. Thank you Robert L. Three Spirits Miller

Consider mule tape for your hammock tie outs. It will still stretch like paracord but with a higher working strength and just as light. It might even be easier on the trees since it is wider.
@hammerhound1683 жыл бұрын
Blackie is that a poncho or a tarp ? If it is a poncho it should be a last in first out item. Last thing you need during woods walk is a quick shower and have it on the bottom with stuff in it. Get you/ make yourself a light stuff sack to put it in. Thanks for reminding me it's time to re-evaluate my kit. A couple of small light weight sacks ( them reusable shopping bags good too ) made from a old bed sheet stuffed in your sack is great for wood finds. Good VID ! May you and yours stay blessed.
@shastaham76303 жыл бұрын
Blackie, is there any reason not to wrap the ridge line (figure eight quick deploy), slide the tent stakes into that wrap and put that whole assembly at the bottom of the flap? In that vein, I ALWAYS keep a poncho (or rain gear) immediately available, never tied up and always first-out. Where I live, it can go from bright sunshine to pouring rain in five minutes. Thanks.
