Great job on explaining the different types of bags that you can carry, so you don't have to carry everything that you have with you every time you just wanna go out in the woods! There's no reason to carry all your gear if you're not gonna need it? That is a waste of energy on your part, so to break it down into different bags or packs for your different type of situations, but still be covered under emergency situations is a great thing. Great video keep them coming!

Awesome video as always my friend! When I was a youngin a haversack was all tools and rope etc... It was always ready to go. If I saw a new area to check out I grabbed it and took off exploring!!! And always a full camping back pack. Guess we get smarter as we get older. Thanks much for sharing this and blessings to you and your family 👼

WELL DONE Blackie! Layering and redundancy are key elements to any kit! I'm more tactical, so for a baseline kit I use a Hill People Gear chest pouch, then a L.B.E. type system made with Helikon-Tex gear. For a "haversack", I use a Maxpedition Mongo Versipack. Then an Eberlestock pack.

Thanks for the video, good way to separate your different needs for different trips. I got a foreign surplus shoulder bag for about 10 bucks at my local army surplus store, I think it was originally a gas mask bag. Was going to use it as a haversack. Kind of hard to figure what to put in there and what to leave out and it not being to heavy. Look forward to seeing what you have in all your sacks.

I like to go bag in a bag in a bag. My scoutpack (fire, stove, water and filtration tarp shelter etc) fits in my medium summer bag which just has bigger and more comfortable shelter options if I'm staying out longer.

I have my bags setup similarly, one bag I wont hit the road without and it carrys all the extra stuff you need nearby but not on you at all times(chargers, cables, paperwork etc) another bag for my morning hikes with my shepard, and being a mechanic I always have some kinda tool kit around and bags are great for that kinda stuff, I find my self ever changing when it comes to my bags lol

Great and thought provoking video as usual Blackie. I was curious whether anyone knew of a system that combined somehow to go from Haversack to Knapsack to Backpack? So something where you have a haversack that you could carry around then it attached somehow to another bag to give you the capacity and functionality of a knapsack. Then with another addition you were at the full backpack level. I have never seen such a system and I don't know if one would really be that functional or not. I was just curious. Thanks in advance.

Im not an expert, for integrity reasons only I have one critique, it's good to have different bags for different occasions, but for me it's always better personally to have a bigger bag than the stuff I have in it. It's also why I prefer a canoe than a kayak. Feel free to respond honestly.
@BLACKIETHOMAS
@BLACKIETHOMAS 4 жыл бұрын
and honestly i agree with you..often i will carry more bag than needed..thats why i use this system of bags...i grab the bag that fits the need plus has a bit extra..for yrs i carried the one big bag fits all mind set..and thats a perfectly fine thing to do

All packs have a "comfortable load maximum". Sure, you could fit more in or heavier stuff, but it will lose its comfort. Some packs are very easy to overload. Just an extra water bottle or even the wrong shape of the bottle is enough.

Looking for your serie. The subject is very appropriate for me. I recently moved to the western slope of Colorado and live at 6000+ft. If I go to the woods I am at 10000+ ft with bears and mountain lions and if I go down for fishing in large rivers I have desert conditions (no trees, snakes and reduce water availability). Currently I am preparing my bags for this conditions plus multi days trips in high mountain. I like your approach but very concerned about the cost, specially with bags with logo... Thank you for your perspectives, I am about your age...

@@BLACKIETHOMAS Ditto. Once you have had all those tools to hand it is too much to be without them. Mine is usually in a bag of some sort (depending on which bag I am carrying ;-)) and a single blade in the pocket. Over here we are deprived of the freedom to carry just what we might like.
