Blackbird v Blackbird Lite - Which is the right Blackbird for you?

I recently purchased a Blackbird Lite. Incredible smooth and efficient shave in just 2 passes. No irritation at all. Super easy to find the shave angle and rinse. This razor is a keeper!

I’m an experienced “daily” wet shaver with over 30 DE razors (yes, a bit extreme). I have a top-tier of seven or eight razors that I use the most. In general, I prefer razors that are on the milder side. I recently purchased the Blackbird “Lite”. Wow!!! This razor hit my sweet spot running. A beautiful mix of efficiency and comfort with an amazing aesthetic. Honestly, it’s been hard for me to reach for any other razor since my Blackbird Lite arrived. Keep up the amazing work Shane!

I’m also an experienced wet shaver and I am looking at these. I use my Rex Ambassador and Rockwell T2 on a setting 2 generally. How would you compare the Blackbird Lite to other razors?

I recently purchased the Blackbird Lite. I have 14 shaves on it and it is a daily driver for me. It is a smooth operator with low risk of irritation or nicks. I might try the Blackbird at a later date.

I purchased the original coated Blackbird from kickstarter, used it for a while then I wanted a slant so bought the ATT S1 slant and used it mainly for over 8 years, tried many other high end razors also. When the Lite came out I jumped and used this razor for about six months but decided to try the Vector, fell in love with the way this shaves! I still use the Lite for some days as it is a little milder then the Vector and it gives a great shave! Thank you for making great razors! I now have the original Blackbird, Ti blackbird, Sabre and Vector razors, I know mainly shave with Blackland

I received the lite baseplate today! I have a SS Blackbird with both closed and open baseplates. I also have a SS Vector. I really enjoy the efficiency of these razors. Although occasionally I get nicked, I wasn’t sure if I should get the lite and lose that efficiency. It turns out that I had nothing to worry about. The lite is perfect for me. I get a close shave with no nicks at all. The lite is the king of my shave den.

Hi Shane! I have the Ti Blackbird in standard and OC plates. It’s the GOAT razor for me by a long shot. My other premium razors now collect dust! If you end up selling the Lite plate in Ti, I’ll absolutely be adding that one to my BB collection as well. Maybe Blackland will also sell a cool looking case/stand to store/display the plates?! @@blacklandrazors I would think that a Lite OC would naturally be the most popular OC because on the aggression scale it would be BB OC > BB SB = Lite OC > Lite. Know what I'm saying? I have one more quick question - which has the larger blade gap, the BB or Vector? I don't need the specs, only which one is larger. For my skin/hair type, exposure matters less than gap, regardless of how mild or aggressive the razor is. Thanks man!

@@triodesrbetter That’s pretty logical, but OC is just less popular overall. It’s a bit less comfortable generally and a different tool for a different job. I don’t really think the progression goes SB > OV. We just recommend OC if you have a lot of growth to hack through and you don’t want to clog up your razor. We’ll see how Lite Ti sells and we’ll go from there! Vector has the larger blade gap. 🤙

Hi Shane! I have the titanium Blackbird with both the standard and OC plates. It’s far and away my favorite razor, beating out my Wolfman, Timeless and Rex! If the Lite plate is every offered in titanium I’ll complete the set! For those of us acquire multiple Blackbird plates, maybe you can offer a holder of some sort to store/display them? It would be super cool to have a metal holder for the plates with the distinctive Blackbird lines! Happy New Year!

No the Blackbird handle is extremely grippy. The grooves channel away water and more than double the surface area of the handle. Get the machined finish if you’re concerned, but grip is not an issue with the Blackbird.

Even though you repeat over and over the same thing, there is no way to proper know the real difference. It would have been easier to compare the Lite with the razors that we all know. Personally, I am "burned out" from spending a lot of money on expensive razors and then having to sell them for half. For example, compare the Lite with the 34 or with the rockwell plate 3, or with the 89. That would be easier and we wouldn't have to risk as much when buying it.

I have an Era with a level 4 open comb. Love it. Would the Blackbird or Blackbird Lite be closest to that?

Blackbird Lite is definitely closest to the Era L4. The Blackbird Original is off the Era scale.
