How would you compare brass to bronze like Timeless uses?
@blacklandrazors
@blacklandrazors 16 күн бұрын
In a razor, brass and bronze are pretty similar functionally. Aesthetically, brass is more yellow (especially polished) while bronze takes on a reddish/brownish hue. Bronze is a little bit stronger so it can take a fall more readily. Brass tends to oxidize/patina more easily than bronze which could be a pro or a con depending on your taste. In reality, both are suitable for razors and the differences are mostly aesthetic for this application.

What I don't understand is why safety bars are made with 2 or 3 slots in a lot of razors rather than one long slot.
@blacklandrazors
@blacklandrazors 16 күн бұрын
Good question! It's usually due to rigidity and/or ease of manufacturing. If the safety bar is very thin, a support gives it strength. And you can machine more aggressively if there is support because the safety bar won't flex as much while you machine. So it's a little bit cheaper and easier to do two slots instead of one.

Looking forward to trying this out. I have one version or other of all your razors and NONE have been a disappointment. One question I have that may have been answered elsewhere is the safety bar on the titanium version. Will safety bar be the magnetic stainless steel or have you worked out another solution so the entire razor is titanium? Thanks (one more thought, my Vector handle fits my current Sabre and should fit the new Sabre as well?)
@blacklandrazors

Thank you for your support! The safety bars will remain 17-4 stainless on the titanium version to retain the magnetic functionality. The Vector handle definitely fits on the new Sabre and it looks pretty great, too!

I fully appreciate the work and effort that goes into the making of these razors, but I can't help thinking you've left something behind with this razor. I think in chasing perfection by following the opinions of the many, you've crossed over the tipping point between form and function. I believe the first Sabre was effectively equidistant between the two and as such fulfilled the brief of style, substance and uniqueness perfectly. Now, to me, this new model sacrifices the minimalist beauty of YOUR original...for the highly subjective functional complaints of THEM. It looks nice, don't get me wrong, but it doesn't look great. It looks like it's heading for genericism. I guess I'm just the embodiment of not being able to please all the people all the time. But hey, if you didn't take critical feedback, then this version of the razor would never have been made in the first place, am I right?
@blacklandrazors
@blacklandrazors 23 күн бұрын
Thanks for the feedback! To be clear, the only piece of this design that came as a result of feedback is the slight change we made to the handle profile. Everything else comes 100% from us. Nobody asked for an adjustable Sabre. Nobody asked for lighter weight and a sleeker head. These were done to continue our internal pursuit of excellence and of boundary-pushing in shave gear. I can certainly appreciate that someone would prefer the original Sabre, but I would push back on the premise that this design was driven by some generic people-pleasing, mass appeal pursuit. That's never been our style.

Dropping the razor and the resultant re-arrangement of the safety bar alignment will definitely change the character of the razor.
@blacklandrazors
@blacklandrazors 23 күн бұрын
Unless you damage the safety bar itself, a drop won't change the alignment as alignment is set with multiple tight-tolerance alignment features. The safety bar could be damaged, but that's true of any razor.

Hello Shane, thanks for the video. I get clean and comfy shaves with efficient razors like Blackbird; except my neck area. I can see from your videos, you are getting some neck irritation time by time and I have coarse and wiry stubles like you. How can I solve this? I do 2 pass-shave with some little touch-ups, and I shave my neck only with the grain. I shave 3 times in a week.
@blacklandrazors
@blacklandrazors Ай бұрын
The neck is a tough area for me because hair goes crazy directions. Honestly, I think some amount of irritation is unavoidable occasionally. I find my irritation is worse when I use a milder razor. You could try varying your angle through those areas to see if that helps. Necks and coarse beards are tough :(

This looks awesome. I really appreciate the attention to detail. I do love the look and feel of the sleek Vector handle (and use similar handles on my razors) but I really like the features of the hollow handle base and stand. It looks much more elegant floating above it. The storage for the spare components is top notch (so many other razors have small parts with no place to put or secure them. Being someone who often adjusts razors, I can’t be more thankful with the design intent. I often feel like the GEM blades need small gap when sharp and can gradually open the gap with successive shaves. I can’t wait to do that with this. I’m hoping a slim handle option or “hollowed vector” handle could be an option, and then this might be my forever last razor haha (honestly). Cheers

If you really care about people's feedback regarding your products and not get offended then here is my 2 cents of opinion. The design of the handle for me sorry to say but doesn't remind me blackland. It reminds me Chinese and Indian brands razor handles. I'm not sure why you did the bar so small piece but I'm sure there is a big risk loosing that piece. Also can easily go down to sink dranes. The head is too wide from the razor edge to the back unless if it gets the whole DE blade.Also the fact that the thread is flat instead of round will cause at some point someone to thread it in angle and ruin the threads.
@blacklandrazors
@blacklandrazors Ай бұрын
Thanks for your feedback! Happy to address those concerns. -The handle pulls from previous Blackland designs. But handle design is subjective so your view is perfectly fair. - The safety bars are small because they need to be. Of course, there is some risk of losing them, but they're unlikely to fall down a drain. - This razor is a GEM razor and does not accept DE blades. So the head is the size it is because that's the size of the blade it uses.

I am anxiously awaiting the pre-order. My feedback for the handle would be to go a touch slimmer or sleeker. Take a great product and find ways to make it better, the included level adjustment plate and a place to store it, new handle design with balance factored in, not only making changes to enhance sales to to better performance but also to enhance styling and comfort for the user! Blackland is not resting on success but constantly improving on it. This type of business mentality will keep Blackland relevant for many years. I bought my first Blackbird off of kickstarter and it has the classic Blackbird coating, I have five other Blackland razors and really only rotate through those now.
